Nico Gomez et son orchestre typique (45t, EP, Festival)

Nico Gomez, de son vrai nom Joseph Van Het Groenewoud, a été un des protagonistes importants du groupe Chakachas. Musicien belge (né en Hollande) qui a produit une série de disque latin dans les années 60 en Europe, jouant avec les codes du mambo, du cha-cha-cha et avec le succès de la musique brésilienne, importé en France par Baden Powell via Pierre Barouh (Saravah), bref, je digresse. En tous cas, un petit EP de Mambo efficace enregistré pour le label Festival.

Rey Roig y su Sensacion "A touch of class-Por la maceta" (salsoul 1975) mp3

Some great latin music today. Rey Roig is cuban, he has began his career as a trompet player with the Conjunto of Luis Santi at the beggining of the fifties. During the sixites, he was with Pete "el conde" Rodriguez and Alfredo Rodriguez in Conjunto Sensacion. He started to lead his own band " Rey Roig y su Sensacion" in 1972 and made three LP with them. This one is the third and last one, recorded in 1975 for the famous Salsoul label. It's a great exploration of the different mood in latin music : cuban son, puerto-rican bomba, colombian cumbia and brasilian samba...The track "Brazil 2000" is one of my favourite, but the all album is a must. As far as I know, he's still alive, he lives in Miami, his wife whom was the back up singer of the band is no longer alive.


Salsa aujourd'hui avec un super disque du cubain Rey Roig. Il a commencé sa carrière au début des années 50 avec le groupe de Luis Santi, et à la trompette s'il vous plaît ! On le retrouve, toujours souffleur, dans le Conjunto Sensacion aux cotés de Pete Rodriguez et Alfredo du même nom durant les années 60. Il faut attendre 1972 pour le voir sortir son premier album sous son nom. Celui-là est le troisième et dernier de sa courte discographie en solo. " A touch of class-Por la maceta" enregistré en 1975 pour le fameux label Salsoul Records. Un disque-kaleidoscope de la musique latine : son cubain, bomba portoricaine, cumbia colombienne et même samba brésilienne pour clôturer ce disque avec "Brasil 2000" qui est un de mes favoris. Rey Roig est, d'après les infos que j'ai pu trouver, encore vivant et vit à Miami. Sa femme qui était choriste dans son groupe est maintenant décédée depuis quelques années.
