I can't Believe

2009 is around the corner. I wonder how long it will take me to write 09 instead of 08 on my checks? hee hee
Here are some projects I've been working on. My sweet friend Angela sent me some photos of her precious daughter modeling the hat and scarf I made her for Christmas so I decided to do a scrapbook page. I have not scrapbooked in a long time so this was definetely something different for me. I wanted it to be pink, to match the hat and scarf and also, it is Kayley's favorite color. I made the round flowers out of felt and did a quick handstitch with embroidery thread around each one, then put a pom pom in the middle. For the background, I drew a circle and ripped it apart in strips, then sewed some ribbon on each one, ruffling as I sewed, hoping to give it a shabby look. I think the page looks much better in person than the photo, it's gloomy and cloudy today and I couldn't get the right lighting.

(you can see the details better if you click on the photo and enlarge it)

These next two cards came together pretty easy for me and are probably the quickest cards I've made in awhile. I used My Mind's Eye Irresistible collection, some Heidi Swapp chipboard and Melissa Frances rub-ons.

I'm loving Vintage for Valentine's Day and look forward to creating more. I used the negative part cut from chipboard of a sizzix die for the front of this card, covered with paper, distressed with acrylic paint then brushed a stain on it and wiped off to give it an aged look. I distressed the clipart with some ink before attaching to the back piece, then applied a layer of mod podge over it, then glued the two pieces togeter and sewed around the edges. The roses in the corner got a "coffee dunk" and a little walnut ink.

One of my favorite movies is on today, An Officer and a Gentlemen. When I lived in Bremerton, WA, we used to go to Port Townsend to the same base where this movie was filmed. It hasn't been a working base for years but it is open to the public. It brings back such fond memories of our visits there and my love of Washington state. We used to stand on top of the bunker where it showed Richard Gere doing pushups, the view of the ocean is spectacular!
If I don't post again before 2009, I wish all of you a very Happy New Year and I'll see you all next year!

Valentine's Day

It's such a nice change to make something besides Christmas projects! Don't get me wrong, Christmas is my favorite time of year but I'm ready to start making projects for other Holidays. I got a bunch of paper mache' hearts at Michaels so I thought I would alter one into a Shabby Vintage Heart hanging. I crackled the heart front and back, and then added some stain and wiped it off to give it an aged look. I painted over the letters and crackled them and edged with a black marker to outline them and also to hide the chipboard edges. The butterfly was a sticker, that I painted over and then crackled, I guess you can say I was in a crackling mood! I sewed around the chipboard heart so it would stand out some. The wings are Maya Road. The roses are from my craft supply which I added glitter to for a little sparkle. I took out the thin rope hanger that came with the heart and added some pink Martha Stewart twill to make the new hanger. I added a Melissa Frances resin frame and filled it with glitter for the "O". I added a little lace, a little netting, a little ribbon, a litte bit of rhinestones and alot love when I made it.

Here are my first Valentine's Day cards. I wanted them to look like the old time Valentines I used to get with I was young with a little bit of an elegant touch. I printed the clipart onto a heavy cardstock, then adhered to a lightweight chipboard then cut out, then I sewed around it with no thread on my sewing machine and used the holes for my blanket stitching. The base of the card is heavy chipboard, covered papers from My Mind's Eye Irresistable Collection on the front. I distressed around the front and back edges with white acrylic paint, then sewed around each one. The bow at the top is twill, with a Prima flower and a Making Memories sparkle brad on some and a felt brad on the others. I added a few Kaiser pearls, buttons and lace trim to finish them off.
I covered the back with some old letter paper, then I cut out a heart from Quite Smitten, Sent with Love from the Irresistable collection so you could write a personal note on each one.

Thanks for visiting my blog and I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend!

Mailbox Blessings

How wonderful it is to go to the mailbox and find cards from far away friends! I love the Christmas letters with photos the most as I get to read what my friends have been up to this past year and also see photos of their loved ones. I am so grateful for my friends, the old and the new and so blessed to have everyone of them in my life!

I made this card for Moxie Fab World Woodsy Christmas challenge. We had four different themes to pick from and I chose the owl theme. I had a set of the Maya Road chipboard ATC owls so I thought that would be a perfect base for me to start. I cut out a bunch of different sized felt feathers and colored the edges with tombow markers, and also left some of them white. (I wanted it to look like a snow owl so that is what I was going for)! I made the eyes starting with a felt circle base, then cut a strip of fake fur and did a running stitch and pulled it tight into a circle and adhered it to the felt base. I cut a small piece yellow felt and gave it a little more orange with a watercolor pencil. When dry, I cut out the eyes then adhered to black felt and trimed, then used my Big bite for the pupils. I used a mini glue dot on the end of each feather and started adhering to my base. On the picture of the snow owl they had some fluffy fleathers on their chest and also their feet so I added a little bit more fake fur in those areas, not sure if I added enough though but I like how it turned out.
For the card, I cut four pieces of lightweight chipboard, covered them with some white swirl embossed paper and sewed around the edges. I attached them together with brass hinges and white brads. I found a twig outside and covered it with some mod podge and let dry and then adhered it to the card with some jute, which I tied on the inside. The bookplate was also brass and I painted it white, then printed the "Peace on Earth" on white cardstock. I attached it to the card with some glue dots and white twine. I added the greenery, beads, pinecones and some stickles highlights to finish the card.

These little santas are oldies that I had. Another one of my items for my craft's fair I never did!! Their bodies look like a big thumb, made from fabric and stuffing and the arms and legs are wire. They were alot of fun to make but time consuming. I have a basket of unfinished ones and they are not looking too good at getting finished anytime soon!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Handmade with Love

I have a couple of handmade things to share today. I thought I would make a cardinal ornament using the same pattern from my cardinal card. The flowers are sizzix and I freehand cut the leaves. There's a little white glittered flower in the center with the rhinestone on top but it doesn't show in the photo. I always think things look so much better in person than they do in a photo. During this next year I'm going to make some of these ornaments in my free time so I'll have lots to put on my tree next Christmas. I just made two and they are hanging proudly at the top of my tree, out of Rocco's reach! I would of loved to add a few red feathers to the birds but the more I would of added, the more yummy they would of looked to the cats so I decided to keep them "cat friendly". (At least I hope they are!)

I made some icicles a few years ago as gifts and a good friend of mine recently asked me about them as she wants to make some so I thought I would post a few. I loved the icicles at the stores but didn't want to pay the prices so I decided make my own. I used floral wire, beads, jump rings and a good pair of plyers. I used beaded garland for the larger beads (the same garland you find in the Christmas section) and just cut the strings and off came all the beads and I put them in plastic containers. I cut the wires in the length of icicle I wanted, then crimped the bottom (leave enough room to add a jump ring if you want to add a dangling bead)then added the beads at the other end until I got the look I wanted, then crimped it off at the top, leaving enough room for a hook. I got lots of different garlands so I would have lots of large beads to chose from, mostly when they were on sale too. I got the smaller beads in the bead section at local craft stores. I made some gold and burgandy icicles in sets of 12 for my boyfriend's mom and sister-in-law for Christmas a few years ago and they really liked them. Making someone else happy is the best part about giving a gift!

Maybe I'll make some red ones for my tree next year, I think they would go great with my cardinal theme!

It is cold and windy today and I've got a big pot of homemade split pea soup slow cooking on the stove and I just made a batch of Magic Cookie Bars. We had those growing up and I always love making them at Christmas time, you know, that time of year when it's okay to splurge!

Have a wonderful week!

Pink Christmas

I've been on a roll with pink this past week, as you can tell from my latest projects. My first project is a wooden stocking I got on sale at Hobby Lobby. The little girl angel image is from Memories of a Lifetime, the Christmas book, which I absolutely love! All their books come with CD's so you can resize the images and only print out what you want.

I added some beads around the top part but you can't see them because of the fluffy trim (I had little feathers everywhere!). I painted the bells white and added a little glitter. The chipboard heart is Heidi Swap and I used the negative part and covered with paper and sewed around it. I always wondered if it would be hard to sew on chipboard but it was pretty easy, I just went real slow. The "25" is sizzlets, snowflake is Maya road and chipboard star is Melissa Frances. I used Kaiser Pearls on the polka dots on the bottom of the stocking.

I had printed two of the angel images so I made a matching tag. I glittered the angels with german glass glitter, which gives them a vintage look I think. I added some trim and a beautiful little pink crochet flower that my friend Jennifer in Washington state made me. The rhinestone brad is Making Memories, as is the polka dot paper. Little Kaiser pearls fit perfect on her flower bouqet.

And of course I had to do a felt card! I used my new cricut cartridge "Christmas Noel" which is victorian and I absolutely love it! I cut the skate out at 5 1/2" and cut the pieces with felt and sewed them together. The snowflake trim on the side was white and I covered it with some Martha Stewart white gold glitter,(which was everywhere, including all over me!) same with the large snowflake. No matter how much I brushed off the card, I just couldn't get rid of all the glitter so I gave up so that is why there is glitter where it should be and where it shouldn't be. The little buttons on the skate are pearl beads, which I bought a long time ago, I love my old stuff!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at my moms, and as always, I ate way too much! My friend Tracy and I had walked 5 miles that morning so I didn't feel to guilty having seconds! I hope everyone had a wonderful and Blessed Thanksgiving with your families.

You know what the best thing about Thanksgiving is - Leftovers! I cook a Turkey breast the day after Thanksgiving so we can have turkey all weekend. I think I'll make some homemade turkey soup too!

Rusty Bells

(click on each photo for a close-up look!)
I am such a pack rat when it comes to craft supplies but I always know that sooner or later I'll eventually use things! I bought rusty bells, rusty trees, rusty flags and rusty stars years ago, I had all these rusty things and didn't know what to do with them, I guess I was going thru a rusty stage! hee hee!
I have been working on these tags on and off for a few weeks as I wasn't sure which direction I was going to go in embellishing them. I had added the paper and distressed them and then got stuck. I was sitting at my craft table and looked up and saw my bag of rusty bells and all these ideas started going thru my mind and these are what I came up with.
The large snowflakes and snowman are white felt stickers I got at Walmart a few years ago (knew I would use them one day!) and I painted them an ivory color and inked with Antique Linen distress ink and then stickles. I used some leftover coffee and dipped the felt I used for the snow and the fabric ties in it and let them dry overnight, which gave them an aged, rustic look. I hand embroidered a black line across the top of the "snow" and adhered it to the tag before I sewed around it with my sewing machine.

I wrapped the rusty trees with some copper trim and also used a copper leafing pen on the black buttons that are on the snowflakes. The primitive star is Bazzill chipboard which I painted, distressed and glittered. Ticket stubs are Tim Holtz and I added the "let it snow" rub-ons (which my dear friend Angela gave me for my birthday!)Medium snowflakes are sizzlets and I inked and glittered them. I used a punch for the small snowflakes, same technique and added a Kaiser Pearl to the middle of each one.

It wasn't that crowded out shopping today, well, except Costco (it was a madhouse by the time we left and that was only an hour after it had opened!) but at least we were able to get some yummy free samples!
It feels so good to be all done shopping and now I can play for the next month!
I'm so excited about my next project idea and I can't wait to get started on it!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Finally!

It's been a long week and I finally have been able to sit down and finish a few projects. My computer has been out of commission for a few days, just caught it before it completely crashed! I had a computer guy come out and work on it and he erased my hard drive and reinstalled everything. He installed a new virus protection which is rated in the top 3 so I feel alot safer on the internet now. I still have to install some font, scrapbook and printshop programs, maybe tomorrow. I panicked though ( I should say I major panicked!) for a few minutes as he was unable to locate all my photos (400-500 missing!) but he finally found them and I was soooooo happy. I spent this morning backing up my photos to CD's of the house, the cats and some special memories. Now if it decides to crash, at least I will have those in a safe place! My computer is 3 years old and he did say that the hard drive might be going out, so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that I can get another year or so out of it.

I think I am officially addicted to felt! I used a gingerbread man stamp and stamped the felt and cut out, then handstitched around the edges. I added some copper beads and french knots to make the face. The hearts are felt used with a sizzix die. (Love my Big Kick!)I made the presents by cutting out some felt squares and adding some handstitching, buttons and felt bows, which I made from strips of felt. I cut the holly leaves and added some beads on each one, and the little red felt berries were cut with my Big Bite and I added a red bead to the top of each one. Oh, I cut the fireplace out with my cricut (another thing I am addicted to!) Background paper is Melissa Frances.

This last card was alot of fun to make. I used my cricut for the candy pattern. I hand beaded the candy and added a glitter brad to the center of each one. Chipboard hearts are Heidi Swapp, papers are Wild Asparagus and Heidi Grace.

I made a batch of yummy chocolate chip cookies for Terry to take down to the property so he can snack on them while he works on the house. How nice it will be to bake in my new kitchen when we move! I know the house won't be ready by Christmas but I sure do like to dream about it. I don't care if there is a blizzard, thunderstorm or whatever bad weather may come, when Terry says to start packing - I'll be ready!!!!!

One more thing, we found a home for the two stray kitties, Wolfgang and Bobby and they will be going to their new home soon. The best part though is they are going to a friend of Terry's right down the road from the new house so we will be able to visit! They will be indoor kitties and their new owners are so excited and have already given them new names but Terry couldn't remember what they were.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I'll try to not wait so long to post next time (as long as my computer cooperates!)

Christmas Crafts

Thought I would share some projects, some are old, some are new. Cardinals are my favorite bird and just love seeing them at Christmas time! The container is a mint tin I altered. Tags were cut with a sizzix die, also used misc. papers, stickles, and sparkle yarn.

These next projects are a couple of ornaments I finally finished! I've been working on the paper mache' house on and off for a few weeks, just haven't had time to post it. I used some Daisy d's papers and die cut, craft buttons, fence from Michaels, snow-tex, tinsel, beads, acrylic paint, stickles and white german glass glitter.
I started the vintage girl ornament a few days ago and just finished it this morning. I started with a plain paper mache' ornament and painted then crackled. Image from Carol Belanger Grafton,(Thank you Angela - I love my book!) chipboard is Melissa Frances which I aged with some distress ink, chipboard stars are Making Memories I glittered with gold, also used Kaiser pearls, buttons, ribbon, rhinestones, stickles, german glass glitter.

These last few projects are some that I made a few years ago. They have been sitting in a bin with a bunch of other projects I made but seeing they were
Christmas I wanted to share them!

Thanks so much for looking!
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Sunny Days Ahead.....

Next 7 days, mid 60's to low 70's, what happened to the chill in the air? A few days ago I put all my summer clothes away and brought out the winter clothes. Oh well, winter will be here before I know it, then I'll be wishing it was warm again - NOT!!

I have another card to share with you. Seeing I'm on a roll with felt, I has well keep it going! This time it's a fun and whimsey card with pink felt mittens with red tassels! I used more of My Minds Eye papers and also a MME chipboard snowflake. Glitter button is Artsy.licious by Chatter Box and pink twine is Martha Stewart. Pom pom trim and rick rak from my craft supply. I made the tassels with some glitter red yarn I had and attached them to a chain stitch rope.

Now I'm off to work on a Christmas present for a very special little girl!

Have a wonderful week everyone!

More felt!

I had so much fun making my penguin card that I had to make another! I have been eyeing this adorable polar bear, also on the "Joys of the Season" cartridge and thought he would be perfect out of felt. I used a stiff felt for the polar bear. I wish they made more colors of this type of felt, it is so much easier to work with. I used regular felt on the scarf, but cut it out a little bigger than the pattern. Papers and die cuts used are My Minds Eye "Be Merry" collection. I added some shimmery rick rac and some Kaiser Pearls and adhesive rhinestones to finish off the card. You can click on the photo for a closeup look!

I have lots of projects planned so please check back!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Brrrrrrr.....

Baby it's cold outside! If I haven't mentioned it before (yeah right!) I love this cold weather! I have absolutely loved the chill in the air these past few days, too bad it is warming up again. I've been reading on the CK site that some people have had snow, I am soooooo jealous! I am hoping for a little snow this year, maybe around Christmas???? I think we had a dusting last year and that was it, maybe the weather man will make up for it this year and finally give us a good snowfall!

Let's get ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas! It doesn't seem right to post a Christmas card before Thanksgiving but I have been wanting to make a card with this adorable little penguin from Cricut's "Joys of the Season" cartridge. Why not make it out of felt? I added some white seed beads around the white part but of course, it doesn't show up in the photo. Maybe if you click on the photo and make it bigger, they will show up. I used Making Memories Fa La La papers. The stars are a sizzix die cut with chipboard, then glittered. I made some french knots all down the left side with some sparkly red yarn I had. Oh and his little nose is made from felt, edged with some french knots also. Now off to work on some submissions and another card!

Thanks for looking!

Trick or Treat

I made the Owl card with the Stamps I got from Gayle's TAC party, I absolutely love them! Cosmo Cricket Fleuriste papers were used on the background, glossy accents on the owls and a couple black Kaiser pearls on the bottom ends. I distressed the background with a light sandpaper and also on the tree branches. I hand stitched with black embroidery floss the zig zag and the X's and it was so much fun! I am addicted to sewing on cards!

Just finished my last halloween card. Image is from FAll ATC Collection by Memories in the Making, Halloween stamp is The Angel Company, papers are Spellbound - Making Memories - I just love their halloween collection! Misc. ribbon, twine and pompom from craft supply. Now I'm going to work on a Fall ATC swamp I'm in and after I finish those, it's Thanksgiving and Christmas cards!!

Have a wonderful Fall day!

It finally feels like fall!

What a wonderful day today, the wind is blowing and there is a chill in the air. My favorite time of year has arrived! It is going to get down into the low 40's at night for the next week. I can't wait until that is the temperature during the day! I love the cold weather!

Here is a card I've been working on this past week. I cut the felt petals with a sizzix die, then I hand embroidered around the edges then adhered them into the flower shape, then added some gold beads in the middle for the finishing touch. I experimented with some different stitches on my new machine and liked this one I used along the edge the best.I forgot to set the stitch length from the last stitch I tried so it isn't as big as I wanted it but once I got started, there was no turning back. Good reason why to test on paper first BEFORE you try a new stitch on your finished piece. I tested the last stitch on paper but changed my mind at the last minute and didn't change the stitch length so at least I attempted to test on paper first!

I made a big pot of homemade vegetable soup and I rented a couple movies so I think I'll eat a big bowl of soup watch movies tonight! I'll be back in my craft room tomorrow to work on more projects.

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend.

New Machine

I brought my new sewing machine out of the box yesterday and it works like a dream! It is so quiet and really easy to use. My favorite feature so far is the scallop stitch. I thought I would try it out on some felt and the finished scalloped edge looks so nice! I am so excited about using this stitch in the future. Ater you do the scallop stitch the length you want, you cut away the excess fabric right at the seam. I added a straight line to finish it off and look how it turned out on the bottom of my cardinal card. I am sooooooo in love with my machine!! I made the cardinal out of felt and hand stitched and beaded it. I used some Daisy d's papers for the background, added some Kaiser pearls and some ribbon to complete my card.
Thanks for looking.

Have a wonderful week!

Warm Weather

So much for our few crisp cool days and nights, the weather man is forcasting upper 70's and low 80's for a few days next week! I am so ready for the weather to cool off.

I finally was able to make a new blog header. I designed it in a scrapbook program, saved it as a jpeg file and downloaded it onto my blog. Took me a few tries but I finally got it!

On this card, I stamped a pumpkin image with dye ink on fabric, then hand stitched it. I cut around the pumpkin and zig zagged it onto some woven fabric and frayed the edges some. The zig zag border is traced from a polka dot paper with a zig zag edge. I cut the leaf paper to fit my card and used the edges of the zig zig paper as a pattern on all four sides, then hand cut. I then sewed around each zig zig with my machine (I have not brought the new one out of the box yet but I think I will this weekend!). Chipboard is Scenic Route and buttons are from craft supply. Polka dot paper in the background is 7 Gypsies Savannah Collection.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I finally came to the conclusion....

that I needed a new sewing machine. I have a Phaff which I purchased almost 19 years ago and it has been acting up lately, not wanting to do a straight line so some of the sewing on my last projects was a little crooked. One thing I know is that I can sew a straight line and it didn't matter how tight or firm I guided the paper, it just kind of wanted to do it's own thing! So, my boyfriend and I went to Sears today and I got a new sewing machine! It is a computerized Kenmore and has 110 different stitches! It is still in the box on the floor of my craft room, learing at me, wondering when it will get taken out of it's little hiding spot and put to the challenge! I read all the reviews on it before I purchased it and it looks like it should be pretty easy to use (I'll post again in a few weeks and see if the reviews held up to their promises!). I think I will keep my old machine and take it in for a tune up, then when I have friends over, I'll have two machines for us to use! I stocked up on new bobbins as I like to keep a bobbin on hand of all the different colors of threads that I use.

I made this card yesterday afternoon on WCMD but couldn't get a good photo of it because of the lighting so I took it outside today when the morning sun was hitting the porch and got a great photo! Top half of the card is Flair Designs paper and the bottom half is My Mind's Eye paper. Die cut is Cavallini Holiday Cheer glittered gift tag (I can't wait to make more projects using these, I also have the Halloween postcards!) Glitter stars are My Mind's Eye, adhesive pearls are Kaiser.

I also got a wonderful book today from Books-a-million while we were waiting for Sears to open, it is "SEW Somerset, the art of creative sewing with mixed media". I have only glanced through it but it looks spectacular and has some wonderful ideas in it! I love to use different textures (felt, fabric) on my cards so I am really looking forward to spending a nice quiet morning with this new book!

Thanks for looking and have a wonderful week!

Fun with Felt

Wonderful designer Melissa has a challenge on her blog to create a card using felt. Her friend Wendy is also having the same challenge on her blog so if I post on both blogs, I have two chances to win in the random drawing! Prize is a little package filled with felt and other goodies!! I absolutely love felt and was so excited for this challenge! My first card is a tac tac toe card I made using felt for the game board. You can click on the photos for a closer view!

I used a sizzix die for the bee body and head and cut out my own wings as the wings with the die were a little too big. I also used another sizzix die to make the felt flowers and added some beads, buttons and french knots. The glitter X's are Melissa Frances as well as the paper and ticket. I had made three bees and put the last one on a tag as 3 on the card were a little too much.

I had some extra time today so I did another card using felt and a few more sizzix dies. I cut two of the snowman from felt and hand stitched around him and also hand stitched the hat, arms and scarf on. Chipboard is Deja View Flurries and Frost and cute little polka dot brad is from The Paper Studio. I cut out a scallop strip from Dream Street Wonderland Collection. Adhesive pearls are Kaiser Kraft and glitter is stickles (which doesn't show up in the photo unless you click on it and get a closeup view). I actually beaded around his hat with black beads but you can't see them in the photo.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day tomorrow on World Card Making Day! I will be furniture shopping the first half of the day but will be home in the afternoon and will spend the rest of the day creating!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Annette
