I am back home...

.... and I still like gorgeous furniture! ;-)

Quick tip to overcome jet lag: Look at some nice warm pictures. And if these pictures happen to be of Tucker Robbins furniture, well, rest assured, your jet is no longer lagged! While I adored the raw lines of this 'monk turned world traveller turned designer', I gasped at these beautiful images on his site. Do take a look...and tell me what you like!

Tibet on my mind..

Tibet. The land of Buddha. The land of peace. Embroiled now in a strife, that we all hope ends. Ends with the hope of Tibet regaining its freedom. Not just freedom of state, but also freedom of thought, freedom of expression and the freedom to nurture its ancient culture and heritage.

One exquisite, but rare artifact from Tibet is its furniture. The average Tibetan household never had much furniture, and whatever furniture was crafted, was crafted for the monasteries and the royalty. A lot of original pieces were destroyed during the cultural revolution, but you can find original antiques through some genuine dealers. It's a question of debate whether these dealers are profiteering from Tibetan heritage or in a way actually helping preserve Tibetan heritage that would otherwise have been lost. Reproductions can of course be found more commonly in the market these days

Tibetan furniture typically had only a few utility items. You will find Buddhist altar tables, storage cabinets, Choyon trunks, Chosom stands and scripture boxes. All of these items are used by lamas (monks) in the monasteries

As I appreciate the beauty of these hand painted pieces of art, I also say a silent prayer in support of Tibet and its people..

As straight as it gets

I am setting up my home office [fancy name for work table ;-)], and have recently picked up furniture very similar to images below. This place, where I picked up my desk and rest, is quite interesting. While they source and restore old and antique furniture from the corners of the country, they also custom make straight line contemporary furniture with wood that has been treated to look old! The result is quite must-buy-licious!

And as I set up my work place, I might as well pick up something for nap place...

(interieurs)

Ofcourse, I also need a new rug, a lamp, a pen/paint brush holder, chair cushions...among other things before I can start 'working' ;-)

I will share the pics of my home office when it is ready!

[Psst: Let me know if you like the kind of furniture as shown above, or old Indian furniture...am planning to debut small furniture pieces in next month's bazaar! Email me if there is something specific you would like)

A little bit of India in my life...

A little bit of colorful furnishings by my side!

A little bit of fab furniture is all I need!

A little bit of Myakka transforms my home!
with due credit to Mambo No.5 ;-)

Myakka, based out of UK, is a store which will help you set up a little bit of India in your homes. The above range of absolutely beautiful furniture and furnishings is straight from select manufacturers in Rajasthan, India. The furniture is all made of Indian Rosewood (Sheesham) and Acacia. What I love about the furniture is the straight clean lines which makes it fit so well in contemporary interiors.

And the best part is that Myakka believes in supporting society and the environment and is also an accredited importer and member of Fair Trade.

P.S. : The name of this store is intriguing! The word 'Myakka' is a hindi word and denotes 'a married woman's parental house'. So if a married woman is going back to her parent's home, she would be going to her 'myakka'!
Pronounced: 'My Ca' (ca as in car)

Intéressant!

Sweet dreams are made of this...

...who am I to disagree?
travel the world and the seven seas
everybody's looking for something!

I am definitely looking for, and looking at Roche Bobois. I showcased their couches and outdoor furniture yesterday; today it is the turn of beds and decor.
And again, I fall a little short of breath as I go through their eclectic collection and try to pick and choose the best of the best for this post...

Roche Bobois has a store presence in China, North Korea and Middle East in Asia, along with multiple stores in EU and NA. Am thinking of gently reminding them of the not so small populace of keen designers and homemakers in the rest of Asia...hoping they expand their chain of stores to more countries.

3S - sit, stare, sigh!

Furniture in a setting so marvelous that I pondered (i quite like the sound of this word!) - Where to look first?...what to drool at first?!

Some amazing pieces of furniture and images from Roche Bobois. Their range is so wide and varied, and displays such consistent superior designing, that I hyperventilated at the choices!

With deep breath in and deep breath out, here are some nuggets from Roche Bobois:

Love the color! Specially against the stone wall

A hint of color here is just what the doc ordered
Gasp!!...

Very Asian! Love the simplicity of the lines and design

Couch conference!

Try not to stare too much at the texture of the cabinet doors and the jars on top of it...

Imagine your morning cup of coffee or tea sitting here!

Like how the chairs and table legs line up so perfectly

I stared at the couch, but drooled at the tree!

In another couple of hours, the perfect setting for 'starry starry nights..'

Jungle country. Am not a big fan of animal prints/skins though...

Sure, go ahead, read the book while we imagine how comfortable the couch must be..
This is not all from Roche Bobois...there is more to come in my next post!
