Typography Album

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure to attend a class with Frank Garcia. We made a 

minialbum with Primas La Mer Collection filled with beautiful flowers and seashells. 

I met a lot of new friends, learned a lot and had a great time. I discovered that I 

really like making albums...but i hardly ever use photos in my work...so I 

decided to make an album without photos!!! Thank you Frank for the inspiration!!

För några veckor sedan åkte jag och en vän till Övik på en kurs med Frank Garcia.

Vi gjorde ett album med Primas La Mer kollektion fyllt med snäckskal och massvis med

underbara blommor som dekoration. Jag träffade ett gäng med nya vänner och lärde mej massor. Jag upptäckte hur kul det var att göra album...men jag använder nästan

aldrig foton... Men det går ju så klart att göra album utan foton!!

Papers and most of the decorations from Graphic45 (Typography collection.)

Of course i managed to sneak in a few vintage trinkets from my flea market findings. 

Albumet är ca 15x15 cm och innehåller 8 sidor...

Alla papper och de flesta dekorationerna kommer från Graphic 45 (Typography serien)

Jag lyckades så klart smyga in en del loppisfynd också :)

Sidorna är gjorda av en gammal kartong, kanterna målade med svart akrylfärg.

There will be a tutorial on the binding coming up in the near future!!

Graphic 45 Design Team 2014 Audition-Round two

Steampunk Spells

It was not easy to decide what to make for the final round in the Graphic 45

Design Team audition....I knew I wanted to use my favorite G45 papers, Steampunk

Spells. I had a pretty good idea of what to make...but the biggest challenge was

to make a Youtube video....I have never ever done a Youtube tutorial, but I guess

there has to be a first time for everything!!! You can find the result of my "movie making

efforts" at the end of this post. 

A 14" high exploding pentagon. 

A base of chipboard and a LOT of hot glue....g45 staples and my favorite G45 papers.

The metal butterfly is attached to the lid with black pearl strings.

Chipboard cut with Sizzix/Holtz dies (Gadget gears and Mini Labels) painted with 

black gesso and Decoart Metallic lustre Gold to match the G45 staples.

I used a Martha Stewart deep edge punch (framed tulips) for the "railing" on top.

I love the matching die cut sheets, the sign from Steampunk Spells Banners.

An album inside....

Of course I made a pentagon album.....

The album is folded to fit in my "exploding pentagon"

Base of black cardstock.....

Lots and lots of chipboard and cardstock decorations, from Steampunk Banners,

Tags & Pockets and Chipboard 1 &2.

And if you take the "lid" of..........

......the "box" opens up and reveals my "Steampunk Lady"

The dress form is a cutting file from SVGcuts (from a set called Dress Shop)

cut in cardstock with my Silhouette Cameo.

Butterflies, a brad and a piece from a metal key for the dress.

The skirt looks rather torn and distressed....(made from polyester mesh)

A satin ribbon and brads to hold the skirt together.

A lot of flowers....all made from G45 papers in the Steampunk Spells collection.

Some of the flowers is from the die cut sheet "Steampunk Spells Flowers".

It's no big secret that I love making paper flowers.... my all time favorite is
the "paper peonie"

I love how you can transform a "simple piece of paper" into something

completely different....

From the kitchen

Nathalie Kalbach CJS 2014 is over .... but it was a fun source of inspiration ...

 the idea was to use different things in your artwork, ordinary everyday 

items you can find in your home and recycle as material for your artwork.

The design team at StampARTic blog had a "from the kitchen" theme the other day 

so I went looking in my kitchen drawers and cabinets, and this was what I 

found ...

Nathalie Kalbach CJS 2014 är  över....men det var verkligen en inspirationskälla...

allt gick ut på att använda lite annorlunda saker i sitt skapande, vanliga vardags 

prylar som man kan hitta hemma och återvinna som material till sitt "pyssel" 

Design Teamet på StampARTic bloggen hade dessutom tema "från köket" 

häromdagen...så jag letade i mina kökslådor och skåp och det här var vad jag 

hittade...

 Looks like I found a journal in my kitchen.... A on the back for Angelica. 

The lady on the front is a Mary Vogel Lozinak design.

Verkar som om jag hittade en pärm/journal/anteckningsbok eller vad ni vill kalla 

den i köket.... A som i Angelica på ryggen, damen på framsidan är en Mary 

Vogel Lozinak design.

Metallic flowers and plastic leaves coloured with Alco Inks. 

Metalliska blommor och plastlöv, allt färgat med Alco Inks.

Paper Clips holds the papers on the front cover, a ring binder so you

can file your notes.....

Pappersklämmor håller fast pappren, och sedan är det bara att sortera in

dom bakom rätt flik!

I found some empty packaging...(I must admit the bag of potato chips

wasn't empty when I found it.) Napkins, coffee filters, a ziplock bag and drinking 

straws....

Jag letade fram några tomma förpackningar... (Det är väl lika bra att erkänna att 

chipspåsen inte var tom när jag hittade den) Servetter, juice förpackning, knäckformar

och kaffe filter en ziplock påse och några sugrör.

I made a cover of the empty cookie box, dividers and tabs of the cereal box.

And I cut a lot of flowers... of the foil bag, some foil "thingies" and a juice carton.

I cut a few leaves from the plastic bag.

Det blev en pärm av kakförpackningen, ett register av flingpaketet och massor

med metalliska blommor av folie påsen, knäckformarna och några kaffe filter.

Blad av plastpåsen.

I glued the napkins on the covers and the dividers using Decoart Textured 

Glass.

Jag limmade servetter på alla delar med Decoart Textured Glass för att få lite 

struktur. 

Different colours on all the parts...

A few color washes with Quinnacridone Gold.....

Några tunna lager Quinnacridone Gold...

....... and some dry brushing.

....och till slut lite torrborstning med vitt.

I stamped a few different stamps on a napkin and glued the to the covers using

 decoupage glue.

Jag stämplade några olika motiv på en servett och limmade fast med

decoupage lim.

In the eye of the beholder....

My new Art Journal!

Finally I gathered all my backgrounds I had laying around the house and made 

an Art Journal of the pile of papers.

Min nya Art Journal, äntligen tog jag tag i saken och samlade ihop alla färdiga bakgrunder

på lösa papper jag hade liggandes och band ihop hela högen till en bok.

Two pieces of chipboard (8 x 10") for the cover. The wonderful butterfly stamp is from 

Unity Stamps (designed by Donna Downey) 

Omslaget av chipboard (20x25 cm). Den fantastiska fjärilsstämpeln kommer från 

Unity Stamps och är designad av Donna Downey.

Letters cut from chipboard with Sizzix/Tim Holts die, Wordplay.

Bokstäverna utskurna med en die från Sizzix/Tim Holtz, Wordplay.

Fjärilarna syns betydligt bättre på baksidan där inga bokstäver skymmer sikten.

and....

Clear UTEE

VersaMark stamp pad and a stamp. Babywipes and of course chipboard 

covers, chipboard letters and corners.

I started by priming the chipboard covers with a coat of Gesso before applying

two coats of Traditions Aquamarine. Then i stamped my butterfly stamp with VersaMark.

Ett lager Gesso som grund för att få rejält fäste för färgen och sedan två lager Traditions Aquamarine akrylfärg. Stämplade fjärilar lite här och där med VersaMark dynan.

Covered the stamped butterflies with UTEE...

Hällde över UTEE.....

..and heated with my heat gun.

.....och värmde med embossingfönen.

A lot of stamping and heating......

Mycket stämplande och värmande.....

I painted the letters and corners before I glued them to the front cover.

Jag målade hörnen och bokstäverna innan jag limmade fast dom.

 I diluted some Decoart Traditions Warm white with water 50/50.

Spädde Taditions Warm White med vatten, ungefär 50/50....

and painted the whole thing.

....och målade över hela härligheten.

When the paint is dry to the touch, grab a babywipe and wipe of the paint from the 

stamped image, there is no hurry but if you let the paint cure it gets really hard to get

it off.

När färgen torkat så pass att den går att ta på (ca 10 min) är det dax att ta fram en 

babywipe. Torka bort färgen på dom stämplade fjärilarna, ingen jättepanik men om 

färgen får härda ordentligt blir den riktigt svår att få bort.

I wiped down quite a lot of the white paint....

Jag torkade bort en hel del färg för att få fram lite av backgrundsfärgen.

Now I applied the Gel Stain with a brush and wiped back with a cloth, don't

use a babywipe for this one, the babywipe will take all the Gel Stain away and you 

will have to start all over.

För att få ett gammalt och lite slitet utseende målade jag över allt med Americana Gel 

Stain, Oak och torkade bort överskottet med en mjuk trasa, här funkar det inte med en 

babywipe, den tar bort all Gel Stain och då är det bara att börja om.

Perfect Crackle on the letters and then some Gel Stain on top.

Lite Perfect Crackle på bokstäverna och ovanpå den lite mer Gel Stain.

The inside of the cover got an other kind of crackle treatment, Weathered Wood.

One coat of Wathered Wood and a top coat of Traditions Warm White.

You have to work fast when you paint over the Crackle Medium, the paint begins to 

crack right away.

På insidan blev det en annan typ av krackelerad färg. Först ett lager av Americana 

Weathered Wood och sedan ett lager Traditions Warm White akrylfärg.

Det gäller att vara snabb när man målar akrylfärgen den börjar spricka direkt.

And of course more Gel Stains...

Och så klart Gel Stain på insidan också.
