Adventures in Grading

This year I am the Teaching Assistant for a professor who is teaching two Marketing Strategy undergrad classes. Initially I thought it would be a great opportunity to work with a professor as well as earn a little cash. No one told me how much fun it could be :)

When the semester started I felt a little weird grading. Was I really qualified to be doing this? Am I being to harsh? To lenient? I've never graded before; who am I to determine what grade a student gets? Are my comments appropriate? Helpful? As time went on I started feeling more comfortable. I was getting feedback from the professor. None of the students had revolted and complained about me. I felt like I had a good grasp on the class assignments.

Last week was a really busy week with an assignment, a case and a midterm to grade. After hours of grading I started to realize . . . I was having fun. Some of the comments were down right hysterical. I was having a little bit too much fun with my red pen.

So you can join in on the fun, here are two of my favorite comments from a case on BMW (from different people):

The basic competitors of BMW are the competitors in their market.
and
Another competitor would be companies that produce trucks, especially Fords.

It took everything in me not to write "No duh" on the first one and "Seriously, trucks?" on the second.

Winners High

It was a fabulous night. Pictures and details to come . . .

Coach Boone: Put your hand down.
Coach Boone: You're smiling.
Petey: Yes.
Coach Boone: Yes, sir. Why are you smiling?
Petey: 'Cause I love football. Football is fun.
Coach Boone: Fun, sir? It's fun?
Petey: Yes.
Coach Boone: You sure?
Petey: I think...
Coach Boone: Now you're thinkin'. First you smile, then you thinkin'. You think football is still fun?
Petey: Uh, yes.
Coach Boone: Sir.
Petey: Yes- no, sir.
Coach Boone: No?
Petey: Um, it was fun.
Coach Boone: Not anymore though, is it? Is it?
Petey: Not right now, no.
Coach Boone: No, it's not fun anymore. Not even a little bit.
Petey: Uh... no.
Coach Boone: Make up your mind. Think since you're thinking. Go on, think. Is it fun?
Petey: No, sir.
Coach Boone: No? Absolutely not?
Petey: Zero fun, sir.
Coach Boone: All right, listen up! I'm Coach Boone. I'm gonna tell you about how much... fun you're gonna have this season.

Miss Samantha Visits Provo

I've already mentioned numerous times how completely awesome my sisters are; you're probably tired of hearing it, but I don't care, they're the best. And little Samantha, well three years at home with just Mom and Dad has made her, well . . . hysterical. For example, my parents take off for the weekend and leave their 17-year old, Senior in high school child home alone. Any normal child would go a little crazy, have a party, at the very least stay out past curfew because well there is no one to check on you. Not Sam. I'm having this conversation with Sam and her response to my encouraging her bad behavior is: "Well, I have to come home at a reasonable hour because I have to take care of the dog. I mean he can't be stuck in his room all day." Seriously! The dog. That girl probably loves the dog more than she loves a quadruple stuffed Oreo. (and if you know Sam, that is saying something)

Since my parents ditched Sam, the Utah sisters were thrilled to let Sam ditch the parents and come out for a "college visit" weekend. Shannan thought she'd be funny by emailing out an itinerary before Sam arrived. It was a great weekend!

Let's Get Rich and Buy Our Parents Homes in the South of France

I've been having major concert withdrawals, but yesterday I received the best last minute invite - Ingrid Michaelson.

Ingrid was amazing. Tons of audience interaction. Some random rapping and even some new song lyrics all about Mexican food. Laughing at how young the audience was and PGing some of her comments. It was a great night. I really enjoy Ingrid, and I just love live music.

Thanks for the invite Chloe!

Thank Goodness for the Trench Coat

So this morning I was running a little late and just threw on a pair of jeans - a pair I knew was at the end of its life but I decided to wear anyway. I also made a last minute decision to grab a trench coat since it was suppose to rain.

I drove to school, parked and then started to get out of my car. And then I heard it. Rip. I was pretty sure that my jeans had just ripped, but I didn't know how badly. But then as I continued to get out of my car I kept hearing the noise. Crap. I knew the tear was pretty bad, but class started in three minutes and I had to go. So I started walking to my building, slightly self-conscious but there weren't a lot of people around so I was okay. Then when I walked in the building I realized I had to walk up stairs. Stairs + A rip down my leg and butt = Not a good combination. And then I remembered: My Trench Coat.

So if you see me today and I'm wearing my trench coat indoors, you know why. It's kind of hysterical.

In fact I met Shannan for lunch, told her the story and of course she made me show her. I hadn't walked three feet (without my coat) before she was literally on the floor laughing.

It's been a good day.

*Not me, but I thought I had to throw a picture up there for effect :)

I'm A Big Kid Now

When I was little I moved from the kids room to the guest room when I was still in elementary school - meaning I grew up sleeping on a Queen bed. It was perfect for slumber parties and sprawling out :) And then I moved to college and I've been on a Twin ever since the dorms. I even shared a room in New York. So much for being an adult, getting a real job and having my own apartment. I used to joke with my friends when they "upgraded" to a Queen. It was a luxury. A little dream. Something to aspire to. (Yes, I'm still talking about a silly mattress).

Well for my 26th birthday I finally graduated to a big girl bed. And I love it. My mattress is the perfect softness. I found a great bookshelf/dresser. I am in love with my desk. My duvet cover is perfect. I've added some bright green boxes that are functional and a fabulous pop of color. Basically, I am in love with my room. It really just makes me happy when I come home.

The lighting in my room is not the best, so these pictures aren't great. But here is a little look at my room.
