Last weekend I had a White House Reunion in Phoenix, and I even flew down a day early to have a little mini-White House Reunion with the roommate I never had . . . Miss Karen Campbell.
The first night Karen's family also happened to be visiting, so I was able to crash the Campbell family night. What was on the itinerary . . . going to the Greyhound Races! Yes, you read that correctly. Who knew such a thing existed? Who knew it was such a big deal? Who knew it actually happens all over the United States? Well, folks I can tell you that it was not just a scene in Oceans 11 - it happens, and people get really, really into it. I'm pretty sure it was the weirdest, most comical experience of my life. Karen gave a great summary on her blog.

Friday consisted of Karen and I recreating our lives in NYC in Phoenix. I got my nails done, met Karen for lunch at the most fantastic restaurant - Arcadia Farms - went shopping, ate pizza for dinner and finally saw our book club book movie - Revolutionary Road. Oh and had some Sprinkles cupcakes.
Funny story about the pizza: We only had about an hour before the movie but thought we'd have time. Our waiter told us there was about a 20 to 25 minute wait on the pizzas - no problem. Well 45 minutes later our pizza finally came. I looked at him and said, "Actually we're trying to catch a movie, so can you just get us a box and the check." He looked at us dumbfounded and said, "Really?" While I just said yes, I thought about saying: No you moron, I'm joking. You told us it would take 25 minutes and that should have been 25 minutes ago! Karen went to get the car while I stayed to pay, and when he came back he just told me not to worry about the bill and just take the pizza. Sweet! Free Pizza! But of course now we're starving and getting ready to head into a movie. So what is the only rational thing to do - sneak the steaming hot, delicious smelling pizza into the movie theatre! Yes, I was the person I hate bringing smelly food into the theatre. Just after the movie started a theatre employee walked up and down the aisles and Karen and I both tensed up thinking we were busted - thankfully he just kept walking. Pizza in a movie - a oh so delicious combo!
It was a fabulous 24 hours with KC!
Karen was such a wonderful host the theme for Part Two of the WHR weekend was: "How Karen Ruined The White House Reunion." I guess Karen took me to all the great restaurants and so plans had to be changed. What this really meant was I got to go to twice as many great restaurants! More to come if I ever get pictures from the rest of the White House Ladies :)
