In the Newsletter this week we have Barbara Jensen in the spotlight. She has some wonderful sassy images in the store and they have 25% off the normal prices. If you don't already subscribe I would suggest that you sign up as there are some fabulous images given away as freebies and you will always be kept up to date with the latest image news.

While you are there don't forget that for the Month of April we have a store collab with the theme of Mother's Day & Babies which is free with a $10 purchase.

For my project this week I was able to use a brand new design from Stitchy called Little Friends. I wanted to make something a bit different and decided it would be a great design to use to make a box to hold a small gift or trinkets.

I drew around my largest Nestabilities frame and cut around this leaving a border to make the box slightly bigger. I had printed out 2 copies of the digi so I could decoupage the heads on the Wolf, Rabbit and Mouse to add more dimension. I coloured them in with Promarkers and took great care to add shading. I did toy with the idea of adding some embellishments but felt it would have detracted from the image so left it alone (unusual for me!)

Using the top section I layered this onto a strong card for the lid and made a base the same size. I then used my scoring board to make a box which was 1" thick and stuck the top and bottom onto the Nestie die cuts. I added a piece of a dark gold textured ribbon to this section to add some decoration and provide a bit of relief from all the white!

On the inside I used a free Word art sentiment from Elegant Wordart by Bethany. I felt it was particularly appropriate for our little bunch of animals that have made their own family. I intend to give this box with a gift to a very good friend of ours who is also not a relative, but family that I have chosen for myself.

I really enjoyed visiting the blogs last week and seeing the most gorgeous of creations. I hope you will join in with our challenge this week and look forward to passing on some love.

In the meantime, it is Mother's Day today in the UK and I wish all the Mother's out there a fabulous day. My Mother in Law loved her Rub A Dub Dub card which was my DT sample from last week :)

I would like to enter this box into the following challenges :-

60th Birthday Bookatrix

I have been commissioned to make a card for a 60th birthday for one of my work colleagues. They had seen a bookatrix style one that I had done and asked me to make one like that.

She has a family crest and I was aked to encorporate that into it if I could. They have clubbed together and bought her some crystal champagne flutes which have been engraved with the crest.

I was unable to get a decent sized image so couldn't do what I had intended with it so made a small 'badge' which was covered in Ranger Glossy Accents.

Brads are Papermania, star paper is HOTP and the stamped images were from a swap I did with a forum friend ages ago. I used some glass beads and glamour dust to accent the champagne glasses and the images were coloured with H20's

The box lid I decorated by doing a larger version of the shield part of the crest. I pieced papers together and used satin puffed hearts for the emblems. The box is finished with a gold ribbon around the edge.

Wedding Card & Box

My colleague Christine asked me to make a wedding card for Helen from the office staff she works with.

I used embellishments from various sources for the front. The dress and the heart is Papermania, the velvet feeling tuxedo is from Woolworths, the glitter sticker is from Mambi with an epoxy sticker over the top from LMC. The sentiment sticker at the bottom is from a wedding pack from Poundland.

Inside the card I did a pop out stylee sandwiching burgundy
paper with peel off hearts on it. I also used Docrafts peel offs to add detail to the inside. There is also an extra couple of pages for her colleagues to add their sentiments to it.

The box is decorated using a wedding cake die cut from a Poundland pack. The heart and sentiment are from the Papermania stickers. Peel offs are from my stash.

Chris loved the card and so did Helen.

Folding Book For Colleague

Our work colleague Sam (the gorgeous blonde on the 3rd picture) is leaving Amtrak and my hubby has worked with her for over 6 years and asked me if I could make something special for her as a leaving card.

I wanted to do something different, but didn't know what. I was browsing through the Docrafts gallery and found a folding book that Joanna Wolska had uploaded and she said she had instructions on her blog . A couple of clicks away and I knew exactly what I was going to do.

Joanna is Polish but her instructions are in English too and were very easy to follow. I had a practice with paper first. I am glad I decided to do that as I felt it needed to be larger and opted to make one with a finished size of 12.5 cm square. I am delighted with how the book came out, it took a lot of putting together (getting suitable photos and even having to take some to get the workmates together) but I felt it was worth it. They are presenting it to her on Tuesday when she leaves.

The papers used in the book have been an assortment from my stash from K & Co, Papermania and Dovecraft. I have embellished pages using ribbons, Papermania peeloffs, fabric sticker, metallic stickers cardstock stickers and silk flowers. I have also used Prima flowers and the centres are 3d metallic squashy dots that I got from Paperchase yesterday. They are ideal for when you need detail without adding bulk like brads or gems do. The triangular sections each house a tag which has been embellished with ribbons and eyelets. These have given an a lots of individual, double sided areas for people to write messages. When I made it I thought there might be too many but in the end some people had to 'overflow' onto the pages.

The box was embellished with a die cut K & Co Frame, Primas, Paperchase gems and Chipboards letters with Liquid Pearls dots.

I have also entered this into 2 challenges on Just Bex for a project using lots of ribbons and also one where an element is painted in some way.

Below is a slideshow of all the pages.

Nanny's Birthday Book

One of my work colleagues asked me to make a special book for her. It was to be from 2 little girls for their Nanny's Birthday.

I was provided with loads of photo's of the 2 little cousins and set to work. It was decided that there should be some with them together and also some separate. Tash came up with the idea of handprints from each of the girls and I have left a page alongside so they can do their individual messages to their Nanny which would be a special touch that all Nanny's would appreciate I think.

She liked the same coloring as the previous book I made so I used the same paper for the cover. I added the chipboard circles and brads to wrap the closure round as this was a great mistake that I made on the first one. I just didn't anticipate the difficulty of keeping the book closed !

The patterned papers used inside are from various manufacturers and I used a sprinkling of Primas to embellish the pages.

The matching box and front of book were embellished using die cut lettering from Ellisons Curlie Girlie and Sizzlits extended cuts Wingo Zingo. The paper was a self adhesive irridescent film and the alphabets came out much better using this thinner medium.

I have done a Slideshow of all the pages below.

Hello Daddy !

I had been commissioned by my friend Dervla, who is very heavily pregnant with her 1st child - to make a card from the baby to it's Daddy for when it pops, due sometime within the next month.

James is one of the most excitable people I know so I wanted to make it a fun card. They do not know the sex of the baby so I suggested we use green and yellow, also Dervla is Irish so has an affinity for green.

The backing paper is HOTP, there are an assortment of dies in this project. The circular lettering is a Cuttlebug alphabet. They cut perfectly EVERY time and after the recent problems I have had with a Sizzlits extended cuts alphabet not cutting properly then I don't think I will use another brand now, it's just not worth the hassle. Alphabets are bloody fiddly anyway and you want to be certain that it will cut 1st time. Sorry, rant over ! Anyway this font is very adaptable as you can use the letters or the circles over another colour as I have done here.

The Daddy lettering is hand cut from glitter card using a font I printed out. The star on the exclamation mark is a fluke as whe I was cutting out the circles next to it was a star and the bottom of the mark looked boring so I replaced it. It adds a bit more impact ad I think works better !

The pram and baby gro are Quickutz which I am ashamed to admit I have had for a long while and not used. The nappy pin, bottle and head are Sizzlits. I have never been able to get a good clean cut with these dies until I got a tagalong and the roller action makes a huge difference compared to the old lever style Sizzix die cutter.

I made a matching box for this project using more die cuts, the sentiment is another Sizzlits die. I also used sparkly star shaped gems. Inside the box I used lemon tissue paper and have put a packet of silver stars and nappy pins to scatter into the box.

I love this card, I loved making it for 2 very special people and I can't wait to see Baby G

Bookatrix Wedding Card

One of my colleagues getting married at the weekend and I was commissioned to make a card by my friend Dervla.

She chose the style of the card and I have made it using the wedding colours of lilac and sparkly white.

I used sparkly and irridescent papers throughout and edged the pages with Papermania peel offs. I used one of my favorite stamps for the image on the card and embellished with mulberry flowers, ribbons and Papermania heart shaped gems.

The matching box was lined with lilac tissue paper and embellished with more peel offs.

Wedding Card Box

With Bookatrix cards you NEED a box as they are about 1" thick when they stand away from the base card.

I particularly like to emboss a line around the edge as I feel it gives a focus to the centre and provides a corner to place a small embellishment and add a bit more detail.

I like to decorate the box lid with a motif or wording which complements the event the card is for.

I had a bit of a disaster with the rubber stamp though. I embossed it using gold embossing powder straight onto the box lid and the heat from the gun made the box warp !

I made another lid and cut the first one up so I could use the image and layered onto gold paper. It does stand out better on the lid now though. The peeloff is from a sheet I bought from Partners. The rubber stamp is a Denami designs one that I bought from a forum friend. I think it is so elegant.
