DS4J Christmas Challenge

Over at Digistamps 4 Joy there is a Monthly Progressive Freebie Challenge all about Christmas, my favourite type of cad to make. I had this image My 1st Christmas by Margaret Keiser for  the February challenge as a reward for completing January’s.

Now I have to admit I would not have chosen this image having never coloured a dinosaur before but I have to admit once it was coloured it really grew on me. I used my Promarkers and Flexmarkers. I used my blending pen to stipple the ‘skin’ so that it created lighter patches. I do think it adds a textured look to it that is better than leaving it plain and gives it more character.

With those eyelashes I figured this is a girl dinosaur so added some twinkle to the fur on the hat, gold stickles on the bauble and some glossy accents to the spots. I used a Nestabilities die to cut the image out.

The card blank is from Craftwork Cards and has the corners cut out. I used a text based paper from DCWV and cut the corners out to emulate the shape of the blank. Finally I added some gorgeous little dinosaur stickers that I bought from the local Pound shop. They were really glittery and had little gems on them. They look to me like little babies so Mommy dinosaur is entertaining the twins…..a bit like my Great Niece entertaining her 4 month old twins so this will be their Christmas card this year

I am looking forward to taking part in the challenge next month and getting the opportunity to build up my stash of Christmas cards. Thankyou DS4J for running this progressive freebie challenge J

DS4J Christmas Candle

Over at Digistamps 4 Joy there is a Monthly Progressive Freebie Challenge all about Christmas, my favourite type of cad to make. I managed to make most of my Christmas cards last year all the year through and am already doing the same this year. It made a massive difference not to leave it till the last minute and even though I did very little crafting from July to the end of the year I only had a few to make in a mad dash in December. Therefore any Christmas challenge is a good thing for me and especially if you get some nice free images to play with too.

Admittedly I have had this image Christmas Candle by Mararet Kieser coloured for a few weeks and just have not had chance to make it into a card. I have had a dreadful cold since 3rd January and not been up to my peak performance in any way shape or form L Hopefully it will not hang around for much longer as I really want to get back to normal and build my strength back up.
However one good thing about waiting until today to make my card was that Laura Davis of 2 Sketches 4 You fame announced on Facebook that she had a sketch on her blog The Paper Poppy. It was January 2011 that she and Kazan did their last sketches and it makes me so happy to see Laura creating again as she has such style.

The image has been coloured with Promarkers and Flexmarkers and I added some Stickles glitter glue in red for the berries and crystal for the candle flame. I used a Nestabilities die to cut it out and it is mounted on 3D foam.

The card base is using papers form and old DCWV Christmas Stack and I had added a length of gold lame ribbon to cover the join. The sentiment is from Craftwork Cards, mounted on 3d foam and a couple of gems added for decoration.

I am looking forward to taking part in the challenge next month and getting the opportunity to build up my stash of Christmas cards. Thankyou DS4J for running this progressive freebie challenge J
