Last AIF DT Card

It's my last challenge as a DT member at AI Factory today although I may well be popping back as a Guest DT every now and again. The 6 months has gone so quickly and I have had the opportunity to work with some fabulous images and a very talented DT, some of whom are also going to pastures new.

There are going to be some changes to the blog and the site will be moving in September so in the meantime we are having a month long challenge for August and it's a real easy one so......

We were given a number of fabulous images to work with but in particular I chose this fabulous balloon image as this coming Sunday, as long as the weather holds outs I will have one of my lifelong wishes fulfilled to actually go up in a hot air balloon !!!! (can you imagine me running round soooo excited like a bloody big kid!!) My wonderful hubby surprised the hell out of me on my Birthday last September by handing me an envelope with 2 'flight' tickets in it for a Virgin balloon ride. Therefore, how could I not make this card? I shall be giving it to him to thank him for making one of my dreams come true.

This amazing image is available as a freebie in the store too so head on over if you want to float away with it too :)

For my card I used a scalloped edge card blank and put a mat of sky blue card onto it. The DP is from a Dovecraft First Edition pad called Up Up And Away and I loved the scrolly shapes in the background and though they looked a bit like clouds. I tore the edges of the cardstock (ooh the pain, I'm sure I heard it cry.....LOL) and used 2 different shades of ink to distress the edges.

The balloon image is have decoupaged to high heaven. There are four layers at it's thickest point and plenty of foam squares were used in the construction I can tell you. It is coloured with Promarkers and I thickened the ropes on the balloon with a pen to make it easier to cut out. I have purchased some of the fine nibs for the Promarkers and was able to draw a criss cross pattern on the basket, you would never be able to do that with the normal nibs. A fine nib also came in handy for the red stripe on the sentiment ticket which is a freebie from Netty's Cards.

I would just like to take this moment to thank Mia & Tammy over at AI Factory for giving me the opportunity to be on their DT and to wish my fellow teamies the best of luck with their future endeavours.

So peeps, get your cards into this latest month long challenge over at AI Factory and with such an easy theme I'm sure it will be very popular.

In the meantime, please, Please, PLEASE keep your fingers crossed for me that the weather is nice enough for my balloon flight to go ahead on Sunday morning. However, don't let it stop you crafting OK!!

Card Size - 6" Square scalloped edge
Paper - Up Up & Away First edition pad by Dovecraft
Sentiment - Netty's Cards
Tools - 3D Foam & Scissors, Promarkers, small ink pads
Techniques - Decoupage & Distressing

AIF090 Lots of Layers

We have a new challenge for you today at AI Factory and this week we would like to see you use
Lots of Layers

We are featuring the My First Rainbow set today which is only $6. You get loads of images in the pack and it is a steal for such a low price. Pop over to the store here to purchase this cute set and take a peek at the other designs too in the store.

There so many elements to choose from in the set but I opted to go with the rainbow as I absolutely love them. As an optimist I believe that even though we can have so many bad times in life there is always something better around the corner. I myself have battled through some awful things but that belief is what has got me through some of my darkest times. That is what I am always reminded of when I see a rainbow, it is nature's way of telling me that yes, it may be piddling down but there is sunshine round the corner :) Plus of course as a crafter we love the pretty colours don't we? Anyhoo sorry for getting a bit deep there.....

I used a sketch from One Stop Craft Challenge for my layout and the papers are from Dovecrafts First Edition Pad Up Up and Away. The main background paper has got lovely arcs in it like rainbows and one of the papers has these gorgeous glittered clouds. I've created lots of depth by adding different heights of 3d foam to the mats and embellishments. At the bottom I have used a spotty satin ribbon in between 2 rows of a lovely velvet one. The bottom strip is a scrap of card that has been trimmed with a Martha Stewart hole punch. I am very proud of that fact that other than the base card, all pieces of paper and cardstock have come out of the snippet pile so the example Jules' Crafty Snippets is setting is having a good effect on me :)

Last but not least I was rummaging through my word art on the computer and couldn't find one with sentiment on it so I made my own. I layered the text over the top of the sunshine and then used a Quickutz cookie cutter die to create the rounded shape for the writing and cut the sun out around the rays.

I have included the wordart (without the sun of course!) below in both JPG and PNG formats which you are most welcome to download. Just right click to enlarge it and save as on your computer. If you do download it please let me know by leaving a comment and please link any cards you make with it back to me.

AIF088 Double Time

We have a new challenge for you today at AI Factory and this week we have a Double Time Challenge. We would like to see you use two of the same thing on your card.

We are featuring the Ella At Peace digistamp today which is only $3. If you fancy using her too hop on over to the store here to purchase this heavenly little image and take a peek at the other designs too in the store.

Now for the details of my card. I have used a sketch from Outlawz for the layout. I printed out an extra layer of the lotus flower image so I create depth and cover it using a Zig pen with Glamour Dust glitter. The image is coloured with Promarkers and I used a Nestabilities die to crate a scalloped frame around the edge of it.

The card has been covered using an embossed and glitter spotted paper by My Minds Eye. Following the sketch guidelines I have added a gorgeous blue and purple lace along the leading edge of the card and I added a thin silver braid just inside this. I used a scrap of striped green & purple paper from the same pad to add some interest, punching with a Martha Stewart Doiley punch. I added some purple spotty ribbon around this.

The sentiment is a freebie from Paulette at Create With TLC If you don't already subscribe to her website I would STRONGLY recommend that you do. She is the most generous blogger in the whole of blogland and gives away so many freebies. She also runs little competitions and gives away lots of extras in the store emails. Please, please do yourself a favour and sign up. Tell her that Made by Mandy sent you :) (p.s. I am not affiliated to the store in any way, just a very happy customer who wants to help spread the luuurve!) I have cut the sentiment out using a Nestie frame and added some faux stitching with a fine liner. I used some small pieces of ribbon underneath to add a bit of contrast.

My 'double' is the use of 2 flower ensembles made from Flora Doodles, opened out silver bead caps and some glitter brads.

AIF 082 Pretty in PInk

We have a new challenge for you today at AI Factory and this week we have a Girly Girl Theme. We would like to see you make something Pretty in Pink :)

For My card I have used the Girl Dressed Up as a Princess clipart which is only $1. Hop on over to the store here to purchase this cute little cute Princess and take a peek at the other designs too in our revamped store.

Now for the details of my card. I have used a sketch from Pear Tree Designs for the layout. I printed out extra layers of the image so I create depth on the Princess and her dress with 3D foam. The body is on a separate layer , then the top layer of the dress and the crown are on another. I have added a bit of glitter to the crown and some heart shaped bling over the hearts on the dress. The paper is from an issue of Creative Cardmaking magazine and I have trimmed the corner with a Fiskars punch as per the sketch.

The Lace has little holes in it so I threaded a bright pink ribbon through. The sentiment is from my stash, I added faux stitching around this and the digi design. I have added pearls in the corner and a flower sequin with a pearl centre. In the bottom corner I have added some punched leaves, a Prima embossed flower and an American Crafts Pearl centred brad.

AIF080 Nature Walk

We have a new challenge for you today at AI Factory and this week we have a Nature Walk Theme.

For My card I have used 2 of the designs that are in the This Little Birdie set 1. It is great value with 5 images and a sentiment for only $2.50 Hop on over to the store here to purchase this little cute set and take a peek at the other designs too in our revamped store.

Now for the details of my card. I have used a sketch from The Corrosive Challenge for the layout. The image has been coloured with Promarkers and I created extra layers with 3D foam to create more depth. The body is on a separate layer and hen the eyes on another one. The paper are from another new pad brought out in the First Editions range by Dovecraft. Please, please, please Dovecraft stop bringing out new ranges that are so gorgeous that I NEED them...... I have enough paper to last a lifetime LOL

The bottom paper has such a lovely dainty design in the corner that the sketch was perfect for it. The squares of green are a double sided paper so I have turned one over and added faux stitching with a fine line pen. I have added ink to the edge of the paper and the image which has been cut out using a Nestabilities die. I have added 3 irridescent sequin flowers and green gem from Paperchase to finish it off........but that's not all.

In a very rare move for me I have also decorated the inside in offcuts of the papers used on the front. I have added the sentiment to a piece if the peach paper and used an inkpad to distress various elements before it was stuck down inside the card. It does really make a card look so very special when you do the inside to match but it is too pretty to write on it and spoil it LOL
