Cult Nails Unicorn Puke goes Crazy Red

This polish might not need an introduction if you already know about the buzz it created when it came out. Cult Nails Unicorn Puke is a gorgeous mix of (some color shifting) flakies in a sheer light purple base. I was really lucky to get a bottle of it and I don't regret buying it because it's easily on my "top ..."-list (not sure how many digits this list has ;) )
Anyway, I liked UP the most when it was layered over black. The formula was a tad thicker than I'm used to but still managable to paint, the beautiful flakies make up for it ;) . I used one coat- you can add another one (or more) to achieve a look with more depth.

On my ring finger I painted my nail with Crazy Red by Estee Lauder. I got this one at the first Viennese beatuy flea market but couldn't find any information on it. I'm not even sure when it came out, only saw an ebay listing and it went for ~30U$.
Crazy Red is a gorgeous duochrome in the bottle- on the nail, not so much :(. In the bottle it shifts green, blue, gold, bronze and yellow, on the nail you can only see the last three I mentioned.
The consistency of the polish was good, tough a bit thick but given its age (probably more than 10+ years?) it's not that big of a deal and can be solved with a nail polish thinner. Only the tip-pulling/shrinkage was annoying, so I'd suggest using a non B3F-topcoat to avoid that. Crazy Red was opaque with only one coat.

Spicing up Nubar Navy Blue

After I finished my manicure with Nubar Navy Blue, I thought it was still a bit on the boring side so I pulled out two polishes from my stash that are great for layering. Pure Ice Rio and Heart Breaker. Both of them are sheer shimmer polishes, which makes them great for layering.
Rio has a pink base but the shimmer turns purple and leans a bit blue at some angles. Heart Breaker is a blue base polish with green shimmer, much like the shimmer version of Essence's Glisten Up (sadly, it's discontinued now). I really liked how the base color of Navy Blue still showed up when it hits the sun.

Pleaase excuse the weird pictures, when I finally had the chance to take the pictures, I banged my middle finger at my car and a big chunk of my nail broke off.
Bitte entschuldigt die komischen Bilder, als ich die Gelegenheit hatte, die Bilder zu machen, hab ich meinen Mittelfinger an der Autotür geknallt und mir ist eine Ecke des Nagels abgeplatzt.

The Star of Bombay has a Laser

Orly's Star Of Bombay is a gorgeous dark navy blue with a hint of shimmer in it. It didn't impress me, so I searched for a layering polish to make my boring manicure to an exciting one. So I pulled out Sally Hansen Laser out from my untrieds and here you have it, a great combo. Laser is a middle-toned blue with a purple duo-chrome effect. It was more visible in person than in pictures, my camera sometimes sucks at capturing it.
I used two coats of SoB and one coat of Laser.

The Face Shop 606 with a little Sapphire Sparkle

The Face Shop is a Korean Brand but also sold in other Asian countries. I got this bottle from a swap with a sweet swapper over at makeupalley. #606 is a blue creme- gorgeous color and I love everything about it, the formula, the brush which is wide and spreads out nicely. I wanted to add a little something to it, so I used CND's Sapphire Sparkle which I got from my swap with Ange. Just for funsies I also added a water decal. The shimmer in Sapphire Sparkle was more visible in person, such a shame my camera didn't pick it up.

Alessandro 263 and CND Teal Sparkle

Don't you dislike it when a company just lables their polishes with numbers? I do and Alessandro is one amongst them. Anyway, Alessandro #263 is a gorgeous black-in-low-lightning navy blue. It's hard to see the actual color in any other lights than direct sunlight because it's so dark. So I decided to layer an accent nail wiht CND's Teal Sparkle. #263 was opaque with 2 thicker coats and was ok to work with- nothing to exciting or difficult.
Teal Sparkle was a tad thicker formula-wise but that's not really an issue when you paint your nails with it.
You can actually see the blue tint in this flash picture:
and here's one with Teal sparkle

Party Palace Blue with a La Playa and a Star

These three "babies" were from polishes I got from swaps from two wonderful ladies. Orly La playa is a gorgeous blue creme with a hint of purple whereas Confetti Party Palace Blue is a sheer blue iridescent glitter which are similar to Sally Hansen Strobe Light or Sinful Colors Hottie. Revlon Star is a glitter polish with silver hex-glitter in a clear base
For la Playa I used two coat till it was opaque and it looked quite boring on its own so I pulled out PPB and Revlon Star from my untried-stash.
A picture of La Playe on its own:
and here layered with a coat  of PPB and Star:

Layering fun with Glisten Up and Manhattan

First up, Glisten Up. This one is going to be discontinued this last month, so grab a (backup) bottle if you haven't already (maybe it's going to be available a bit longer in the US because it may take a little longer till the new things are going to be displayed). I used layered one coat over a random black creme. In the bottle it is a sheer blue with blue flakies but layered over a black base, it transforms into a green.
Next up, Manhattan AG1401 (what a lovely name *rolls eyes*)
It looks like a dull nude color with a light duochrome effect. layered over a black creme, it transforms into a foil-ish middletoned blue. You can see it'll be a bit brushstrok-y.

The two Rimmels and Sally Hansen Purple Pizzazz

Hey there :)

Wow, so tomorrow's New Years Eveand another year is over. Looking back at it, I'm glad it's over but I don't have many resolutions but a low-buy is surely in order because I bought way to many polishes (or things in general) and my untrieds-stash is growing bigger and bigger. I don't have much planed for NYE and I hope you'll have a great day tomorrow :)

 Back to polish:
As I showed you in the first post the comparison of the two Rimmels, I decided to layer it with Purple Pizzaz I got from my swap with the awesome Jackie.

I layered one coat over it and boy, it was mesmerizing. I couldn't stop staring at it and the shimmer from Blue me Away was peeking through at some angles. There are glass flecks in Purple Pizzaz which you can see up close.

Essence All Access and China Glaze Emerald Sparkle

Hey there :)

You might have wondered- I've changed my commenting system because there were some issues with it. Also I've successfully transfered all the previous comments and they are still available :D

Now, onto polish. Essence's All Access is a dark emerald green with a "glowing shimmer" if you look closely at the bottle. Sadly, it is discontinued but was lucky and managed to get the last bottle off the shelve. I used two coats and it glided on- had a great formula and a average brush. The "glowing shimmer" didn't tranlate on the nail and when I finished it with my topcoat, I didn't like it as much as I though I would so I toped it with one of my most favourite green polishes, Emerald Sparkle by China Glaze.

All Access alone:
And here with a coat of Emerald Sparkle

Essence Just Rock It with a glitter topcoat by Etos

Hey there :)

Essence Just Rock It(JRI) is one of the new shades Essence introduced this fall. It's a blurple creme, and looks a bit jelly-ish in the bottle. JRI was opaque in two coats and it was a bit boring for my taste. So I added a coat of the blue Etos Effect Nails which I got in a swap from Marte of Girly Addictions. The glitter-topcoat has silver holo hex-glitter in it and some regular sized silver glitter in a colored base.

As all/most purples/blurples, it looks like a simple blue, but it's not :(

First up, a swatch of Just Rock It on its own.

Layering Fun

As I promised you in the last post, I've layered Hottie with 2 awesome polishes that I got from Ange from Scandalously Polished (thanks again :D).
I used Pure Ice Heart Breaker and CND Sapphire Sparkle from their effects-series. Sapphire Sparkle was only layered over my ringfinger and I added a little fimo star fruit to give it a little twist :) The swatches show two coats each of the layering polish. Somehow my camera is a bit overhelmed by the magnificance of this polish-combo that it didn't show the duo/quadro-chrome effect of my ring finger (from the "Scrangie blue to a magenta to the Hottie purple).

Nubar Prize: Layering Experiments Part 2 (pic heavy)

Hey there :)

As I wrote yesterday that I haven't found the "perfect" red tone to layer under Prize I went through my stash and found a Frankenpolish I did quite a while ago: Ruthy.
I really like the result of the layering- it makes Prize more royal-red toned which I like more than the original magenta-colour.

The pictures show 2 coats Ruthy and one coat Prize on the nails I did the layering, 2 coats of Prize where I only painted Prize.

(a little pic of the background while I was taking the pics- me watching The Simpsons ^^)

Nubar Prize: Layering experiments (pic heavy)

Hey there :)

As I wrote yesterday I wasn't that fond of the colour so I thought it'll be perfect for layering. The pinknes of the polish was a bit too strong for my taste so I layered it over Opi's Thanks so Muches. In comparison I like it that way better than the original colour but I think I still have to find a red that's a tad darker to be fully satisfied.
The two fingers with only Prize were two coats, the other two were one coat of each polish.
Also the following pictures show the same pattern- was simply to lazy to write them on each picture (also no topcoat this time).

Layering Love: Color Club Groove Thang + China Glaze Nova+ Essence Glitter Topper Shiny Star

Hey there :)

As you can see at the topic title above it's another layering manicure :). Somehow I've got way to many almost-black polishes. So today's NOTD I'll show you is China Glaze Nova and Essence Glitter Topper layered over Color Club Groove Thang. Groove Thang is a gorgeous colour in the bottle but sadly it's a bit too pigmented that the colour you see on your nails is a black. The actual colour is only seen in direct sunlight- kinda dark purple with a green duo-chrome effect in some angles. Nova is a gorgeous layering polish- a lot of different sized glitter(round&square ones)- a bit chunkier in a clear base. I don't have the exact name of the Essence Polish because I bought it a while back and the letters on the bottle litteraly fell of (see the below pic ;) ) and only the lable on the top "survived". I believe they've re-released it in one of their Nail Art Twins but with a different name.

(see the black "things" on the bottom of the bottle? those were supposed to be letters)
and of course a flash pic- to see it's holographic awesomenes(plus I love the reflection on my floor):

Unlike Nova the Essence polish hasn't got as many glitter in it. In fact I only picked up a few of those and did only an accent nail. Maybe I should've done it the other way round so the removal would've been easier ;)
The application was great on all 3 polishes- Groove Thang needed 2 coats 'till full coverage and I did 1 coat each of Nova & the Essence one.
Here are the pics:
