Dumbfounded

I find it quite sad and worrisome to read about how smart young women can be so gullible to believe men they met through social networking sites such as Facebook.

Recently, a young women from our own state has become the latest victim for drug mules. She was arrested in China after being duped by an African man she befriended in Facebook. The said man promised her an all expense paid trip to China. Before her departure to China, the "friend" told her to swallow 100 pills containing heroine. She was arrested upon arrival after the Chinese narcotics officials detected the pills inside her stomach.

There were red flags everywhere, warning her about this good-for-nothing friend!! She's a college student for heaven sake!! She should have known better, especially when asked to swallow that detrimental pills. But, who am I to judge her? That imbecile would have sweet talked her into being a drug ass.

I wonder what made intelligent young women like this girl got involved with such scams. Is it a lack of parental guidance? Is it because of too much parental guidance? Lack of self esteem? Or is it the allure of a forbidden/mysterious relationship with a stranger? Or is it the blurring of lines between a "real" friends and virtual acquaintances?

For whatever the reason is, I am going to teach my students about these scams and see what they would they respond about it.

Have a nice day!

Heli..heli...

I know most of us think that helicopters flying by our rooftops are a common sight. I see a helicopter or two everyday because I lived near an old airport (which is now used as an army flight base).

My students apparently see helicopters as a rare sight. A very rare sight.

So, yesterday our school admin were informed about a helicopter landing scheduled at 10.30a.m on our school field.

10.35a.m.
I can hear the sound of the helicopter flying across the school. And the sound of students buzzing about it.

10.38a.m.
"NAH!!! HELIKOPTER!!!!!" exclaimed student A.
"Eih, dia limpas seja tu...nah..nah..ko tingu..." replied student B.
"MANADA!! NAH!! NAH!!! NAH!!!!!! DIA TURUN!!!!!!!" shouted student A excitedly.

10.40a.m
Students ran out of their classes to see the helicopter landing, which embarrassingly, I found myself in the midst of a sea of excited students. For the record, I also haven't seen a LIVE helicopter landing. To be with the students witnessing this rare event is quite...a learning experience.

"Helikopter apa tu, teacher?" asked one of the students.
"Err...yang tentera punya kali..." I replied. Well, I can see some white and blue colours on the helicopter, it might be an emergency helicopter or something. "Maybe it's a hospital's...dorang mau bawa orang sakit kali tu pi KK..." I added.

"Cigu pernah naik helikopter kah?" asked another one.
"Tidak, tapi di kampung teacher hari-hari ada helikopter limpas."
"Oh...(no feeling ni..)"

After two minutes, we all went back to the class. And the students were still buzzing about it.

I just can't believed that I saw a helicopter landed on our school field. Now, that is something you don't see everyday.

Stupid Pointless Annoying Messages.

Rajin pula sia update blog ini minggu kan? Good, cos it means my paperworks are all done and I got the whole Sunday to laze around in front of the laptop with my good friend, the Internet.

Speaking of the Internet, referring it as a good friend would be ironic. A frenemy would be suitable. In this digital age, I've got so used to having all the world at a click of the mouse that sometimes I forgot that behind all these wonders, there is a flaw.

What am I rambling about? Last night, I received two Facebook invitations from my brother and a college friend. I thought they were real Facebook invites about having a Dislike button in your profile. I thought "Oh, maybe they do want to have Dislike buttons since everyone is talking about it..." Duh.
Since the invites came simultaneously from two of my trusted FB friends, so I went on a click-fest on the link provided.

In less than two minutes, I saw "myself" posting on everyone's Wall and had the audacity to "invite" to an event. Luckily (or unfortunately for me), Pian updated his status by saying that the Dislike button is a virus.

WARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'VE BEEN DUPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought I knew better, but it seems these stupid spams knew even better. I feel extremely bad for my friends who were affected by my mindless clicking. IHHHH!!!! I hate these spammers!!!!

So, to reduce the carnage, I decided to warn everyone in my status...
Well, I do hope I didn't help spread more spam. Maybe it's a sign for me to deactivate my account for a while and come back after Easter. Or maybe I just had to be more careful next time, that even though it came from a friend or a relative, I should have checked it first before clicking.

I really feel like an idiot.

Have a spammer free weekend!

Junior MasterChef

This post is dedicated to Pierre, my fave participant of Junior MasterChef Australia.

I love watching Junior MasterChef Australia - would never missed it every Sunday night. I just can't imagine how children below 12 can cook gourmet meals and whip up scrumptious desserts. Honestly, their cooking expertise made me blush. I can bake cupcakes, saute vegetables, sweet and sour fish, etc but I don't have any idea what are consommés, blancmage, and all those culinary jargons. These kids do. And they're still kids!!

Another reason why I am drawn to this show is how these kids compete against each other. Unlike other reality shows like ANTM (no offense, I love it too.), The Hills, Survivor, The Apprentice, you named it, these kids had no OTT dramatic displays, bitching, back-stabbing, sabotaging, whining...I think the channel giving the show a PG rating is kinda weird. They gave each other support and I guess they are probably more matured to know that the show is about merits, not antics.

Anyway, this week Pierre was eliminated with three other adorable participants...all I wanted to say was:
PIERRE, YOU COOK GOOD! hehehe...

He's just 12, yet he cooks like a 28 year old (even has a potential of being a hunk in 16 years time). I wished I have a son like that ;-)

Adeh, Pierre...you're 16 years too late! Wished there are more guys like you who is my age!!

Nonetheless, since Pierre's out, I'm rooting for Sienna and Isabella!

Cute, kan?

P/S: Actually I already knew who the winner is. Tapi diam-diam sejalah dulu...hehehe

Ramblings.

This week has been quite a spooky one in sleepy Sook.

It seems like "Casper" had decided to pay a visit to Sook by following one of our student and one colleague of ours home after camping. It created havoc and stirred up a manic fear among us, me included. When it comes to the paranormal experience, I confess that I am quite a guntalau (penakut) sometimes. At times I can be quite the skeptic because I do believe that sometimes people pretended to be in hysterics just to seek attention. In our case, it was real. I crossed paths with the affected colleague - he looked so troubled. Eyes were red, face were red and he looked so tired. He told me he was "attacked" again last night. It hit me that there are some things 'beyond' our naked eye and what our mind can perceive. To comfort him, me and several colleagues told him to (1) get holy water, (2) get prayed over or deliverance prayer, (3) pray to St. Michael, the Archangel and (4) pray the Rosary. He went back to his hometown after that, hopefully he'll be all right (Amen!)

After Casper's escapades, I'm inundated by never ending paperwork. I think, despite my attempt of becoming a tree hugger, I have used almost 3 reams of paper in the time span of 2 months. There're exam questions to construct, forms to print, analyses of all-sorts to do...the fun never ends. MySpace

Well, not all happenings in school were bad. This morning, I decided to let my hair down and wore a hairband ala Blair Waldorf. As I walk briskly at the corridors, one of my Form Three students went out of his class and flashed me a smile.
"Morning, teacher..." he said as he gave me a toothy laugh.
"Yaaa...morning! Apa ko bikin di luar kelas ni...mau minta kena marah ka?" I replied.
"Nda, teacher. Teacher cantik bah ini hari, tulah sia sengaja keluar2 mau tingu teacher," he said.
"Beiii...mikiroyou ni budak...pi masuk kelas!"I told him.

Well, I had to put on my strict-and-cool mask to increase my classroom cred. Nonetheless, I do enjoy the compliments from my students.

Yuiiiiiii......

Have a great week!

Shout-outs, Snake and Sprain-y Situation

*****Image contained below might be disturbing to ophidiophobes. Readers' discretion is advised*********

This post has been...well, brought to you today by the letter 'S'.

Well, not that S.

First of all, I want to give a SHOUT-OUT to God for making me and my friends pass our highly-stressful-tedious-damning-difficult-must-pass Induksi examination. The results were out yesterday, and checking my results online was nerve-wrecking. When I saw the word LULUS, I shouted for joy and totally forgot that I was at the school library, in front of my students. My students were like WHA~~?
Anyway, now we can become confirmed teachers!! Why does being sah in jawatan is important? It's just so we can apply for low interest loans...hehehe...
And for my Catholic readers and friends, I just want to share a prayer that I often use for times like this. So far, this prayer has never failed me. All you need to do is pray this for 3 consecutive days and promise to publish this as soon as your request was granted.

Holy Spirit You who make me see everything and showed me the way to reach my ideals, You who gave me the Divine gift to forgive all the wrong that was done to me, and You who are in all instances in my my life. I want to Thank You for everything and confirm with you once more I never want to be separated from You no matter how great the material desire may be. I want to be with you and my loved ones in your perpetual Glory. Amen < Make request >

Next, two days before the Induksi results came out, my friend Suzanah and I were sauntering towards the canteen when lo and behold, a long, slimy visitor decided to get lunch at canteen as well. It was about a foot long, just a wee little, black and yellow stripe snake.
Almost similar like this but still short.

The two of us just stood there and watch that lil'fella go. We were scared and thought that it might be venomous. What can we do then? Kill it with our high heels? Stick it with a plastic fork? Since we were really hungry, we decided to have lunch at the canteen anyway. All the time we were there, a little bump or a little swish of plastic on the floor made us looking under the table anxiously. Manalah tau, tiba-tiba ada suara kecil bercakap "bulih sssssia joinsssssss?"

Then, I wished I was never given the PJK subject. I was never trained to be a PJK teacher and suddenly, there was that subject in my otherwise ideal timetable. So, on one particular Thursday, I got bored watching at the sidelines when my students were happily frolicking with their bola and their badminton rackets. I decided to play badminton with some of the students. I grabbed a racket and bergaya macam Lee Chong Wei la kunun.

After a few hit and misses, our game suddenly became so alive! No one misses the shuttle, all serves and smashes were reciprocated. The battle was on. Miss J versus One Intellect!! It was a fiery tournament until one sound stopped it all...

CRACK!

As I was attempting to hit back with a backhand smash, my left knee was...well, it was pulled? Twisted? Whatever it was, it was painful. To cover up (and perhaps, salvage my ego) I passed the racket to another student and said, "Nah, mainlah kamu...Miss penat suda (kunun)" and try to disguise that hobble. Earlier that morning, after leading the warm-ups, I heard myself imparting these wise, yet ironic words of wisdom, "Kita mesti buat warming up sebelum PJ supaya kita dapat mengelakkan diri dari kece...deraan."

Sekali, sendiri tercedera. Hehehehe. Now, walking up the stairs is quite a challenge for me. I guess, I have to start drinking Anlene, huh?

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Bookmania!

This week I am on a reading rampage!! Remember this pic?

I am going to finish all these in a month!! It's just too bad that the Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series is not available as a whole set here. Been browsing through MPHonline, Kinokuniya and Times websites but they do not have the books available yet.

Why am I crazy about Thursday Next series? Well, if you are a fan of Terry Pratchett, you'll love Jasper Fforde. The series is like the Harry Potter for literature. It has a great dose of humour and it's an intelligent book for adults who need those humour dosage. It's ridiculous and smart at the same time!

Bah, sia mau kasi abis baca dulu buku-buku sia kio...siapa yang mau pinjam, kasitau ah ^__^

Loser Like Me

I've been down with stomach flu since Sunday and frankly, I've lost about a centimetre off my double chin. And my tummy pouch is noticeably smaller and flatter. Well, there are still bumps but at least I am not as bloated as a whale. So...Yeay!
So, during my three-quarter day sick leave (went to school but the pain was getting so unbearable..I knew I should have just stayed at home), I catch up on Glee Season 2 on fastpass.tv. I can't get this song out from my head...(Spoilers ahead!)

Best, kan?
