Fall Foliage
It is time for the next challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog and Jenny is our hostess for this one. She is calling it Fall Foliage and here is how she describes it:
According to most search engines the Fall season has officially begun so we should be starting to see the emergence of all those beautiful Autumnal colours, unless Mother Nature throws us a curve ball! Let's celebrate them anyway by creating a vintage or shabby chic project in traditional Fall shades that includes some form of foliage like leaves, berries and so on
I just received a fabulous sketched flower stamp set by Dina Wakley called Always Flowers and that became my inspiration for this card.
I started by covering a panel of card stock with some Melange Tissue Wrap and then I distressed the edges.
After carefully adding the lovely tissue wrap, I proceeded to cover most of it with some Texture Paste - lol.
I forgot to take photos along the way when I altered the textured panel but the steps I took were:
1. Patted some Wild Honey, Vintage Photo and Gathered Twigs Distress Ink on a kraft sheet, spritzed with water and pounced the panel on the puddles
2. Added some texture paste through a Bubble stencil
3. Used Jet Black Archival ink to stamp some text from the Entomology stamp set
Next I used Jet Black Archival ink to stamp the flower images on watercolor card stock. Each flower was then fussy cut.
To colour the flowers I used a variety of Scribble Sticks - Lime, Evergreen, Olive, Cheddar, Tangerine, Ruby and Lemon - with a watercolour paint brush. The method I use is to spritz a tiny but of water on my kraft sheet and then rub the stick in the water to create a little puddle of colour that I can dip my brush into. If I want a little more concentrated colour I wet the brush and rub it right on the stick.
To assemble the card I distressed a panel of rusty red card stock and added that to my card blank and then topped it with my textured panel. Next I added my flowers, a strip of burlap and a Small Talk sticker inked with Vintage Photo DI. Finally I added a loopy bow created from Burlap String.
This bright card will likely be heading to my Niece for her birthday, which happens not long after all the bright colours have faded and fall is coming to a close, just when she might need something cheerful in these difficult times.
I hope you will join us for the challenge, which runs until 11:55 pm EDT on Tuesday, October 13th. One randomly chosen winner will receive a gift certificate to shop at The Funkie Junkie Boutique and the Design Team will choose their Top Picks with the overall winner receiving an opportunity to be a Guest Designer with us at a later date.

Fall Scarecrow
It is time for the next challenge at Frilly and Funkie. Kathy is our hostess this time and she calls it To Everything There is a Season. Here is what she has to say about it:
Fall is one of the most beautiful seasons of the year. Brilliant leaves, fall flowers, crisp blue skies, and migrating geese fill the season with a sense of wonder and anticipation You're invited to create a vintage or shabby chic project that captures the beauty of fall. You can make a card, a tag, share a journal entry or any kind of project you desire. Just be sure to create it in the shabby chic or vintage style and be sure to use fall (not Halloween) images and colors.
I have made a card with a very vintage image of a scarecrow out in the field with his warm clothing on.
I started with some Bazzill card stock for the blank. Then I cut a panel of paper from Graphic 45 Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea for my background. I stamped it with the Vintage Wallpaper stamp (Wendy Vecchi) using her Tree Branch Archival Ink. I distressed the edges and inked them with some Gather Twigs Distress Ink (Tim Holtz for Ranger).
Next I cut a tag shape from some paper from Graphic 45 Time to Flourish, distressed and inked it and then added it to a larger tag of brown card stock (Recollections). The hole was punched with an EK Success punch and then I added a reinforcement (Avery) that I inked with Gathered Twigs DI.
Some seam binding was dyed with Wild Honey DI and added to the top of the tag.
I cut the text from the bottom of the vintage image to use as a separate sentiment although it is really dark so you have to bring up a larger version of the photo to read it. The image was distressed, inked and mounted on some brown card stock.
Next I die cut all the leaves and branches from the Fall Foliage die set (Tim Holtz for Sizzix) using a variety of colours from the Kraft Core Shattered Collection (Tim Holtz). Each piece was inked on the edges and veins with Gathered Twigs DI and shaped a bit from the back with a large embossing tool.
The sunflower image was a digital freebie I got a few years ago from Beccy's Place. I printed it three times on a scrap of white card stock and then cut two of them apart so that when I layered them, the flower had a dimensional look. The flowers were coloured with pencil crayons (Prismacolor) and blended with OMS (Gotrick).
I added some black microbeads to the centre of the top flower before I layered them together and then tucked a loopy bow made from burlap string under the sunflower when I added it to the card.

Nuts About Fall
Well, I am back from England and I had a lovely time. We didn't go as many places this time as we usually do when we visit but did manage to spend a fabulous day at Portsmouth touring old warships, took a run to Bakewell to get my special scotch and went to London for a tour of Buckingham Palace and tea at Fortnum and Mason.. I also managed to get some craft shopping in and now just have to figure out how to keep my husband calm when he sees the bills. It isn't as much the cost of the items but the fact that 1 British pound costs $1.62 Canadian. That exchange rate is a killer.
On the day in London I met up with Anne Ray, who is Phindy's DT Leader and a friend of my hostess. You would almost think the four of us had known each other for years because we got along so nicely and had such a lovely day. Anne is a super lady and I am so glad that we got to meet.
I am exhausted with the time change and the 7 hour flight but should get back to normal by tomorrow - I hope. I also have to work on losing the 5 pounds that I gained.
Our challenge to you this week at Phindy's Place is to make a card or other paper-crafted project with a AUTUMN/FALL theme. I have created a card in the colours of fall and used a great Phindy image that screams fall.

Fall Shorts
I used to work with a fellow who started wearing his shorts in May and would not give them up until late November no matter what the weather was like. When I saw the challenge to make fall cards at Sassy Cheryl's, I decided this image would make a great card and then the sentiment popped into my so I just had to make it. I haven't seen my former co-worker in a couple of years but I bet if I sent the card to him, he would get a chuckle out of it.
I am going to enter this card in the following challenges:
