Now I have photos!

I've been babysitting Moo Moo yesterday and today so I had to whip these up while he was asleep....he's too inquisitive for me to sew and try to to entertain him at the same time (he's currently rifling through my purse as I type)!

This is the new pattern that I bought from Clegs....certainly not as groovy at the 1974 pants pattern....but quick and easy.

Here are the inside seams (all ovelocked)!

...and here's today's fashion parade. There's far too much camouflage going on but we're not leaving the house so we won't be arrested by the fashion police!

On My Desk ...........on a Wednesday

On my desk today is a funny little project that I finished at about 8PM lastnight (there was nothing to watch on telly)!

While searching through the fabric stash on the weekend, I found a piece of brown velour that I bought at the op shop a while back and I also had this brown cow print fat quarter that I picked up for $1.50 a couple of weeks ago. Moo Moo's daddy is not a big fan of the 70's pants pattern so I thought I'd take it one step further and make a real 70's outfit! Velour pants and a matching personalised bib!

This photo is here to shame me into cleaning up.....this is the aftermath of the great pants challenge, and me trying to find fabric in the stash to make some curtains for my kitchen door!

Don't forget to check Kirsty's blog to see who else is playing along, and you can also join up while you're there!

The Great Pants Challenge!

OK the poll is now closed and the result is .......................... triumph yah!

After not having enough corduroy fabric for the pants, I went searching through the stash to see what else I could find........and ended up with this camo print cotton drill. I made the pants according to the pattern which was a Size 2. I had to read the instructions about fifty times to see what to do next because I've never used a clothing pattern in my life....I usually just make it up as I go along. I'm actually quite amazed at how well they turned out (although I didn't like the 5/8 inch seam allowance...I think that's too much).

Here's Moo Moo trying them on.....they're way too big because he's only 17 months old!

I really liked the design of the pants so I decided to make a smaller version. I wasn't sure how to do this properly so I just made it up. I had some patternmaking paper in my cupboard that Corrie gave me, so I traced the original pattern onto the new paper but I used the seam allowance line as the cut out line and then made the torso section and the leg length shorter.

I had some denim in the stash so I used that to make this smaller pair. I added the star for a bit of extra bling....I wanted to put the star on one of the bum cheeks but Mr CurlyPops said that it would look silly, so then I suggested the knee but with Moo Moo's clumsiness, he'd wear away the felt, so it ended up on the front. Note to self - embellish before sewing pants together to make life easier! I encountered a problem with these ones because I didn't fold under the bottom seams twice....

So of course, they frayed in the wash!

The only quick solution I could find was to pop down to Spotlight and grab some iron on hemming tape.

......and here's Moo Moo modelling for the finale of The Great Pants Challenge!

Channelling or Coincidence?

Do you ever have one of those days where a really strange coincidence happens and it's just unexplainable........???

I decided to go through the stash lastnight to pick out some fabric for The Great Pants Challenge. I emailed Sherrin to get a couple of tips on fabric selection because I truly had no idea what I was doing......(thanks for those great tips and photos Sherrin).

I decided on corduroy because I knew that I had some in the stash from a recent shopping expedition..... and because Sherrin showed me how to match up the grain!

I recently joined up for a little pincushion swap with Fi and Michelle.... and in todays mail is this beautiful little pincushion from Michelle. It has my favourite colours, favourite print (floral of course), and corduroy (one of my fave fabrics)! The photo doesn't show it but on the front, the grain of the corduroy is perfectly horizontal, but on the back it's perfectly vertical...fab detail!
Thanks so much Michelle...I love it!

....and now for the freaky bit....this is the corduroy fabric that I pulled out the stash lastnight and left on my kitchen bench for today......

......only to discover that it's only big enough to make half a pair of pants (drats)!

Silly Gilly Winner & The Great Pants Challenge

I know I promised that I wouldn't enter any more giveaways, but I just couldn't resist entering the giveaway on Gillians Silly Gilly blog for this vintage pants pattern from 1974 (the year I was born).....

......and I won again!!! Thanks so much Gillian, the pattern is so cool! I've been so lucky since I began blogging in January....it's hard to believe that it was only six months ago.

I've never ever tried to make any type of clothing before so I'm issuing myself with 'The Great Pants Challenge' (and publishing it here to make me do it). The challenge is that I must attempt to make a pair of pants using this pattern within the next 7 days. I will report back with my triumph or tragedy by next Tuesday....... as a little extra, I'm adding a little webpoll on my sidebar for 'The Great Pants Challenge'......click either 'Triumph' or 'Tragedy' to vote....... do you think I can do it?

Edit: My Web Poll wasn't working properly so I'm testing out a new Web Poll widget instead!
