Super Lola Nova
A few weeks ago, I spied a very cool Felty Cuffs Tutorial over at Lola Nova.
It's was like the planets had aligned and shooting stars were raining down..... because every Superhero (even the completely mad and foolish ones, who like to embarrass themselves in public) needs Superhero Cuffs to go with their Superhero Headband!
But, do you know what's even more special about these particular felty cuffs?
They were made by the actual Lola Nova. How cool is that? Answering my own question here... it's way cool!
This is the arty-type shot where my arm is slightly out of focus so that you don't notice that I really need to invest in some moisturiser!
The best bit is.... I will wear them - you do know that right?

My creative space
I'm a little bit late today, but I was too disorganised to post anything before I left for work thismorning.
I was finishing off these Superhero Headbands lastnight when I realised that I'd run out of velcro for the closure.....so I bought myself lots and lots of velcro today to finish them off....
But first, I'm going to sit on the couch, put my feet up, and watch The Bold and the Beautiful while enjoying my cup of tea and Sara Lee chocolate muffin.

Tutorial - How to make a Superhero Headband
I had wonderful intentions of having this written before christmas, but better late than never!
Download the pdf
Every kid wants to be a Superhero. Use some fabric scraps and your imagination to create a one of a kind Superhero Headband.
Print and Cut out the template - copy the photo above and print it at full A4 size. The template includes a 1/4 inch seam allowance. The template is half of the headband, as the fabric will be cut on the fold.
Line up the pointy edge on the fold of the fabric and trace around and cut, or just cut around with your rotary cutter (this is a dress up item so there's no need to be completely accurate).
Cut out two pieces using whatever fabric print takes your fancy.
If you are using a light fabric such as a quilting cotton, then use some iron-on interfacing to add some structure.
Place your two pieces of fabric right sides together and sew all the way around using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Make sure to leave a turning out gap of at least 8 cm along the bottom straight edge.
Clip or notch all the way along your curves, or just use your pinking shears. Clip all of the corners to ensure that they turn out neatly.
Turn out to the correct side - using a knitting needle is handy for the corners.
Using your iron, press all around the seams so that it sits nice and flat. Topstitch all the way around the headband very close to the edge. This topstitching will sew the turning out gap closed.
Iron some fusible web onto a piece of red felt (I use applifix). Cut out a star shape.
Peel the backing paper and place the red felt star into the correct position.
Fuse the star with your iron following the directions for the type of fusible that you are using. Once fused, topstitch all the way around.
Add a strip of velcro approximately 8cm long to one end. Sew into place.
Add the other side of the velcro strip and sew into place, ensuring that the pieces match up together accurately.
Check the velcro closure
Go forth and banish the evil forces forever!

It's a finale
I'm still working on dress ups....
It's lots of fun being able to just make anything. I picked up this spangly offcut in the remnant bin at Spotlight last week for $2. I've teamed it with some net curtain offcut, some ribbon from the stash, and some binding to finish the raw edge (have I mentioned how much I hate hemming). It reminds me of The Jetsons.
Tonight is the grand finale of the Northcote Kris Kringle Market, so if you've been meaning to come along over the past few weeks, it's the last chance. I'll be there from 5.30 PM - 10.00 PM, and I'm hoping that we can break the cycle of thunder and rain this week!

For the budding Superhero
I finally had the chance to make a start on the handmade christmas pressies today. I have requests for playtime dress up pieces, so I've begun by making some Superhero Headbands inspired by SuperPops herself!
I was having so much fun mixing and matching prints, that I decided to whip up a few extra to take to the market. I have lots more cut out..... just need to get back to the stitching up bit. But first I need to head over to my sisters house for meatloaf and mash for dinner...yum!
