Catching Up

I'm still catching up from my new years sew-athon

I'm bringing it to you in iPhone snaps, as these were sewn and popped straight in the post to their new owners!

Gosh, blogging was so much more time consuming pre-iPhone. My poor old camera is a bit lonely these days.

I'm also loving having having easy access to a range of WIP photos. I love seeing other peoples works along the way, and I find it really interesting to look back at the process.

There's still more to come!

New goodies for Gleaners Inc

I've just been to visit the very lovely Liz at Gleaners Inc

I dropped off some new Sunnies/Specs Pouches made with vintage pretties from the stash.

Liz wrote a very good post yesterday about shopping local and supporting Australian designers. Food for thought!

Little Shop Of... Re-stocked

I was supposed to re-stock Little Shop Of a couple of weeks ago.... but that call put a spanner in the works for a little while.

As soon as the sewjo returned, I got to work whipping up some brand new Vintage Fabric Sunnies/Specs Pouches. I'm happy to report that they're now in the shop and ready to be snapped up!

There's also a range for the bloke in your life. My fave is the plaid one made using a pair of mens vintage pants.

To celebrate the oncoming gorgeous weather, there's also fresh new colours of flower brooches available.

Go forth and SHOP!

The forgotten ones...

In all of the excitement of the Gleaners Inc Grand Opening, I'd totally forgotten to show off some very special Sunnies/Specs pouches.

Some of my very favourite vintage tablecloths and vintage fabrics were sacrificed for a very good cause.

Here's a lovely pic of them in their new position at the shop (check out the gorgeous vintage cutlery drawer).

Just in case you hadn't heard, Gleaners Inc is Open For Business (2 Ballarat St, Brunswick) - make sure to check it out!

What's the opposite of belated?

I'm usually totally tardy when it comes to giving birthday pressies to friends.... so this is quite unbelievable but true (insert spooky music).

Beryl was ready an entire month early.

Beryl is a completely custom large size (115mm frame instead of 90mm frame) Sunnies Pouch

Perfect to fit a giant pair of sunnies (like all the cool kids wear).

PS - I'm guest blogging over at My Poppet today (how super exciting) while Miss Cinti is off in Japan shopping and having a lovely time.... wish I was there too!

I'd like to go and live on a Desert Island

Just for a little while...

I think it'd be fun.

Peace and quiet. Not a care in the world (well, except for sandrash, sunburn, and hunger).

You can find your own little piece of island paradise right here....

In other news today, unfortunately I didn't make it through to the final of the Cosmo Fun Fearless Female Awards.

The three finalists in my category (blogging) are:

Sara from Harper and Harley (fashion blog)
Nicole from Gary Pepper Vintage (fashion blog)
Katie from What Katie Ate (food blog)

I'd like to wish them all the best of luck.

It was lots of fun to be nominated, and I want to give a huge thankyou to each and every person who took the time to vote!

Making a tablecloth out of an errrrrrrr..... tablecloth?

I had a major dilemma over the long weekend (because craft is really truly important you know)....

I needed to whip up a super-quick no fuss fitted tablecloth, to fit over the coffee table that sits under my cabinet at Big House Collective.

I stood in front of my fabric stash for a while, and then glanced at the stack of vintage tablecloths and had one of those AHA moments (with apologies to all the Oprah fans in the audience).

Why not use a tablecloth to make a tablecloth... intelligent yes?

It's currently being modelled by a table which is completely the wrong size, but I hope you get the basic idea.

After I was all finished, I was then hit with a second dilemma, initiated by my hoarding gene.

There were small offcuts.... of vintage tablecloth.... I couldn't possibly throw them away....

So the coffee table now has a matching sunnies case.... just in case it's sunny?

For Owls Eyes Only

I've been cutting into all of  my 'designed by me' fabrics lately (instead of hoarding them like I would normally do).

There should be a huge package of goodies arriving at Little Shop Of... today, including these super cute Sunnies/Specs Pouches.

Check out that pink fabric underneath - it's one of my scores from last weeks op shopping adventures.

I found this handmade skirt on the rack which I snapped up immediately, either to refashion to an a-line skirt, or to chop up for fabric......

.......but then it turns out that all of the leftover fabric was there too, along with this lovely turquoise crochet fabric. The op shop lady hinted that it was from a deceased estate, and asked if that bothered me at all.

Of course it doesn't bother me in the slightest - it's all just part of the magical recycling / reusing circle of life!

Plain Jane

Sadly (ahem), not everyone is a fan of my penchant for bright colours... but just look! I really can do plain.

This one was a request for a very plain blokey flex-frameless sunnies pouch.

But I couldn't resist adding just a little bit of fun.

My Creative Space

Trying to get the production line going... not very successfully.

Too many ideas, too many crazy tangents, and not enough time!

Colour Swap

I find it quite astonishing that not everyone loves my favourite colour combination of pink and orange (well maybe not too astonishing).....

So if you didn't like Dame Edna in my favourite colour combo, she's now available in dark steely grey, and turquoise.
and Clark Kent is now available in Purple!

So tell me, what's your favourite colour combo?

Clark loves Edna

Totally inspired by a twitter chat with Bianca - please meet Clark Kent and Dame Edna.

They're the perfect padded pouches for keeping your specs or sunnies safe!

Both are now sitting in the shop waiting for a new home......

Tulips V2.0

I've been waiting (for what seemed to be the longest time) for my latest fabrics to arrive!

I now have a new longer version of my tulips pouch which is perfect for your specs and sunnies.
I'm sewing up two more new designs today as well, so keep an eye out tomorrow - hopefully I'll have them all finished.

The tulips are in the shop right now.

The Finki Challenge - European Travels

If only I could brag that I've had real European Travels....... sadly I cannot, so I'm making up for it with my entry for the Finki Challenge.

I had this lovely Eiffel Tower fabric on hand so I whipped up a little Gadget Pouch.
You can find this one in The CurlyPops Shop!

I also had a custom ordered Sunnies / Specs Pouch last week which I really loved - it's a combination of Joel Dewberry and a lovely chocolate brown denim..... yum.

I love a Fairytale

I don't know what it is about these beautiful Kokka fabrics, but I absolutely adore a teeny tiny fairytale print.

Usually when I buy new fabric, it sits in the stash for months on end before I actually get around to making anything with it..... but not this one.

I was itching to start cutting and stitching.

There's just something magical about a pair of shiny red shoes..... clicketty click

The forgotten stash

I started collecting fabric about ten years ago, at around the same time that I decided that I wanted to learn to sew and make myself a handbag for work. I still have some very early incarnations of my make it up as you go along handbags which are quite funny to look at now. I remember being so proud that I'd made something myself, that I didn't even notice all of the unfinished seams and dodgy stitching.

At that stage, I was really drawn to silky satiny (ok, I know that's not really a word) type fabrics, while not realising that they weren't the easiest things to learn to sew with. At that stage, I'd also never even heard of interfacing!

Over the years, my stash of these fabrics ended up hidden away in a plastic container and were completely forgotten about, until I had an enquiry from Anna to make a Sunnies / Specs Pouch for her mum in a silky fabric.

Like a bolt from the blue, I headed off on a search through the mountain of fabric, to find my forgotten silky satiny gems. I even remember some of the shopping trips that I went on to buy them. I'm pretty sure that the fabric that Anna chose came from a little morning trip with my ex-MIL to Brunswick fabrics on Sydney Rd about 5 years ago. I originally intended to make myself a handbag with it, but just never got around to it.

So now I have Anna to thank, for re-introducing me to the forgotten fabrics that were instrumental in the beginnings of this little crafty adventure...... Oh how I love a happy ending!

Gadget Size

After working on the Sunnies / Specs pouches during the week, I thought that the same concept would also be ideal for electronic gadgets.

I've been searching through the stash for all of my fat quarters, and found this lovely Pippijoe Orchard print, and one of my old favourites from Hollabee.

These Sunnies / Specs Pouches and Gadget Pouches will be heading off in the mail to Georgie Love tomorrow..... in the meantime, I need to make some more for my market stalls!
