Flarey

It's getting to that time of the year when all my nephews need new pants to fit their ever growing legs.

Now that my overlocker has been serviced, I can whip these up in no time, as I no longer have to sew the seams on the machine as well.

These new flares are for Moo Moo - denim recycled from a pair of Moo Moo's mums old jeans.

Shorts.....or longs?

Now that the weather is getting warmer, I thought I should try to graduate from making kids pants, and attempt to make some shorts instead, using the mens Rip Curl shirt that I found at the oppy last week.

Nice overlocked seams.......as you can probably tell, I made these on Tuesday (before I broke my bloody overlocker)!

Anyhow, somewhere amongst the 100th time I've had to clean up the craft supplies for a house inspection, I've managed to lose the pattern that I bought for shorts. But never fear, I decided to make my own instead. Using the vintage size 2 pants pattern, I sized it down to what I thought should be size 1, and then made the legs at the length that I thought would be perfect for shorts.

In theory, this method should have worked. They looked like shorts when I laid them on the outdoor table to take a photo.

It was then time to take them over to Nico's house for a test fitting........

So, are they shorts or longs?

On My Desk.....on a Wednesday

On my desk today is an absolute disaster!

I was making myself a new handbag yesterday afternoon and decided to overlock the seams as the fabric was fraying quite easily. There was a section of the seam that was thick and the overlocker became stuck before spitting out the left needle...aaaggghhhh.

The needle was still threaded and I managed to work out how to put it back in, but now the threads are not overlocking. I've tried to follow the diagrams in the instructions and on the overlocker but I just can't work it out. I ended up being so frustrated that I had to just walk away and leave it......

Maybe I'll try again later today.

Overlocking and Blogger problems

Ok, so this post is supposed to have photos of the pants that I made yesterday with overlocked seams......but blogger is being a pain and won't let me load any photos gggrrrrr!

So, at some stage later in the day, I will try again!

In the meantime, there are even more giveaways happening in blogland. Check these ones out!

Overlocking along....

Well it's taken me over a year, but my Ebay overlocker has finally been switched on and stitched up!

My in-laws came over for lunch yesterday so my mother-in-law gave me a quick overlocker lesson. It took me half an hour of searching the house to find the power cord (for some reason it had ended up packed away in the study).

My overlocker is a little different to my mother-in-laws but she worked it out quick smart. We just had to play around with the tension a bit to get the stitching correct.

My next challenge is to use some of the beautiful corduroy that Sherrin sent me to make a pair of pants, but I think I might make a pair of cotton drill pants with the overlocker first before I try with corduroy.

Wish me luck....I'm going to need it!

This is ........what scrambles my brain when I try to understand it

Phew! That was a long title today....

I've blogged about this before but my unused unloved ebay overlocker fits both categories today....... it gives me scary goosebumps and it scrambles my brain when I try to understand it!
I'm going to issue myself a challenge to actually read the instructions and try to use it to make something sometime in August.

Thankyou Angela and Juddie for another great week of 'This is'!
