Donate Life Week 2013

Today heralds the beginning of DonateLife  Week 2013

Untitled It just so happens that this has been the most significant one for me as I'm still in hospital recovering from my bilateral lung transplant.

Untitled
I'm not going to lie. It's been the most difficult challenge of my entire life, and I still have a very long way to go towards recovery (probably twelve months).

Untitled
A I am ever so grateful to the beautiful family who donated lungs so that I now have the chance at a new life Untitled

Today also marks the beginning of the Life Flashes exhibition. All of the photos are on display in the corridor between the courtyard and the carpark at the Alfred Hospital.

Untitled Winners will be announced officially next Sunday at the DonateLife Event in Lygon St.

A huge thankyou to everyone who entered.

Please enjoy the beautiful heart mosaics from our instagram challenge last month!

Just for a bit of pretty

I know that I've gushed about Instagram about a billiontrillion times already in this space, but please bear with my while I do it all over again.

Have you ever wondered why something handmade is more expensive? Or as a maker, have you ever had trouble trying to work out your costs so that you can set a fair sell price?

I have no magic formula for you (sorry about that), but taking step-by-step photos, and posting them on Instagram, lets you really SEE exactly how much work goes into the product that you're making.

As a bonus, you get to look at pretty pictures.... and see into the working space of makers all around the world.

Places and spaces that you would never see if you were just getting finished product photos on a blog, or in an online shop.

I love being able to look back at my photos and see the different times of the day and night that I'm working, and how the light and shadows change depending on the time and the space.

A lot of time, energy and love goes into the things I make.

But I'm so lucky that I get to make things that I love.

This batch of Vintage Fabric Bunting is available in the shop and will also be heading to Gleaners Inc

Life Flashes - FMS Day 3 Heart

Can I just say one word - WOW!

Yesterday's photo a day challenge on Instagram was amazing.

We had over 170 people post a photo of a heart and hashtag it with #LifeFlashes to promote organ and tissue donation awareness and DonateLife Week 2013.

I'm in the process of obtaining individual permission to use each photo in a large mosaic for the Life Flashes Exhibition. So far, I have 138 photos that I can use which is absolutely fantastic.

Once everything is completed, I'll be instagramming and blogging the photo mosaics so that everyone gets to see the beautiful finished product!

There are also some beautiful photos that have been submitted in the Facebook competition so far. The top ten will be printed onto large canvasses and displayed in the exhibition. Please go and check out the entries, and even enter your own photo!

All the details for the FB comp are right here (and you don't need to be on FB to enter, as you just email your entry to Louisa, our HLTTV Membership Officer)

If you're interested in learning a little about what it's like to be on the transplant list, then ABC2 is screening the BBC documentary Love On The Transplant List Saturday night at 8.30 PM.

A huge thankyou to Carly for putting me in touch with Chantelle from Fat Mum Slim and a giant thankyou to each and every person who submitted a heart. It means the world!

Sewjo...where for art thou?

I conducted a little totally non-scientific experiment on the weekend to try to pinpoint when my sewjo disappeared.

The carbon dating of my iPhone photos seems to indicate that it was somewhere around  February 3, although I'm quite sure that it was on a go slow for a couple of weeks prior.

With the forced hibernation due to the crazy hot weekend, I decided to set myself a challenge...

.... and thanks to my infatuation with Instagram, this is the finished result.

It took me all weekend in between faffing, drinking cups of tea, catching up on all of my Foxtel IQ'd shows, washing etc...

Jeez.. there's that moon tan again!

...and thanks to the power of Instagram, when I had a little whine about how frustrating it is to 'turn out' softies,  Berene from Happy Sew Lucky pointed me in the direction of one of her tutorials.

Brilliant!

Now she just needs some clothes.

A new obsession

I'm always a little bit behind the times when it comes to new fangled technology....

... but now that I have an iPhone

....I've found a new obsession.

Do you Instagram too?

I couldn't resist adding this one.... it's an Instagram of my Intragam
