2012 - The Highlights

I wasn't going to write a 2012 round up post (mainly because I was just being lazy), but on second thoughts, a LOT has happened in the last twelve months, so why not?

Well done if you actually made it to the end. Phew!

That's just the stuff that I've actually managed to blog about.

I only have one wish for 2013... hope you receive what you wish for too.

Apologies for the weird spacing - I tried to fix it to no avail!

Goodbye 2011.... I'm not sad to see you go.

Thank goodness 2011 is over. It really has been my annus horribilus. I don't like to whinge and whine in this space, but seriously, this year had quite a few sucky bits!

A New Years Day ambulance trip and a week in hospital,  another few days in hospital having lots of horrible tests,  and eventually being listed for transplant....

There were various battles over medical funding with both federal and state beauracracy.......... and then there was that false alarm....

Just for my own amusement, I'm going back to the list that I made at the start of the year to see what I managed to tick off.

  • Stay out of hospital (that one actually is my number one priority)! (half tick)
  • Have more fun (half tick)
  • Work on more illustrations (half tick)
  • Work on more textile art pieces (half tick)
  • Apply to take part in a group exhibition (gold star - I took part in 2 this year)
  • Indulge more in my love of eating lunch at nice cafes (gold star)
  • Remember that exercise is a necessary evil (half tick - I haven't missed many PR sessions)
  • Spend more time properly planning meals and cooking for myself (fail - no interest in cooking)
  • Experiment with more coffee blends and make a shortlist of my favourites (half tick)
  • Procrastinate less (have decided that procrastination is actually part of my creative process)
  • Remember that me time on the couch watching trashy tv is good for my soul (half tick)
  • Improve my writing skills (fail)
  • De-clutter more of my life (gold star)

Overall, I'm pretty happy with that list of things.

There's no list for this year - living in limbo, and waiting for a phone call that will change your life forever sort of negates the need for any forward planning. I'm not going to indulge/frustrate my inner control freak by making plans that I know I can't keep.

Go Granny Cotton - 1

Instead, here's a teeny tiny little look back at some really amazing stuff that happened in 2011.

Looking back through my flickr stream, I can see that even with the sucky bits, I really managed to achieve a lot.

So, it's hooray to a brand new fresh year. Hopefully a year that will bring me some new lungs..... and a brand new lease on life!

    Happy New Year

Well, my little New Years Eve celebration ended up being even quieter than I'd originally planned.

There was no energy to bother with a party frock and a photo session, and it was a bit of a struggle to even find a pizza shop that was open - apparently all the pizza makers in my suburb are still on summer holidays.

I ended up having a lovely evening snuggled up on the couch with Elbow (it seems that Houdini dog gained a new name while he was being dogsat by my nephews this week). Oh, and I even received a phone call while I was in hospital from someone who found Houdini Dog after yet another great escape!

He spent the entire afternoon and evening sound asleep. He's not used to all of the action of living with all those little whippersnappers, plus an overly excited spoodle.

I managed to catch up on all of my favourite shows that were magically IQ'd while I was away - Bethenny's Getting Married, Flipping Out, Millionaire Matchmaker..... and the list goes on.

I'm taking instructions from my not so fabulously big list and just as Tinniegirl reminded me lastnight - I need to: Remember that ME time on the couch watching trashy tv is good for my soul

So inspired by that motto, today's plan is to chill on the couch in the peace and quiet - just me and Elbow. My own space, my own place, no distractions, no interruptions, no prodding, no poking, no-one annoying me, no-one talking loudly and incessantly, no-one telling me what to do, no complete strangers over-sharing their life stories with me and asking me personal questions that I'm not interested or comfortable in answering ..... it's just soooooooo good to be home.

    The Year That Was

I don't really know where to start in trying to sum up 2010. This post really struck a chord with me thismorning. 2010 was a year of highs and lows, but I'd really rather not focus on the lows, so I'm going to just ignore them (I'm actually quite good at avoidance, and see how I just turned a negative into a positive).

I'm not one for making plans or resolutions. I'm more of a 'lets just see what happens' type.

That being said, there is just one thing that I am planning for in 2011, and that is to have more fun.

I'd really like to spend more time just doing the things that I like doing, rather than the things I should be doing. After all, life is way too short to sweat the small stuff!

Who would have thunk (is that even a word) it, that when I started up, I would end up at this point on blog post number 523 for the year.

I’ve decided to list the crafty highlights of my year:

    There have been meme’s:

    This is
    On My Desk
    Just a Minute
    Love Friday
    What I’m Wearing Wednesday
    Eye Spy
    Sunday Stash

There have been lots of softies:

    Hearts for Mirabel
    Softies for Mirabel
    The Toy Society

There have been CD Swaps and Art Swaps and Pay it Forwards

I joined in for crafty adventures with other creative souls:

    Brown Owls
    Thornbury Craft Bonanza
    Purse Making Class

    Hoppo Bumpo Stencil Along

There have been lots of crafty things to make:

    Birthday Pressies
    Handbags
    Aprons
    Bibs and Blankies
    Christmas Pressies

There’s always plenty of food to share

There were lots of lovely and generous packages in the mail

My op-shopping addictions and expeditions became much more severe and frequent and I found a new op-shopping partner-in-crime!

I opened The CurlyPops Shop and actually made some sales – thanks so much to everyone who supported me in this.

I failed in my attempts to crochet, but I did actually learn how to knit.

I bought waaaaaay tooooooo much fabric

I learned how to use my overlocker

There was the super fabulous month of Blogtoberfest… what a hoot, and 71 posts that month

There was some reading amongst the crafting (even if most of it was craft books)

    Phew….. I think I need a holiday!

    Happy New Year
