Psychedelic Snail

Did you know that Snails are the new Owls?

What else does a single girl do on a Saturday night, but crack open the sketch book and the fineliner pens and get drawing.

He may not be psychedelic yet...... but just wait until he has some much needed colour added.

It's such a beautiful day in Melbourne today. I'm heading to Brunswick for the final day of Home Is Where The Craft Is

There's a pop up craft market and there'll also be cupcakes - yum! Maybe I'll see you there?

The Grand Finale

The Garden Gate

So this is the final piece that I'm exhibiting at Home is Where the Craft Is

The Garden Gate

I've combined my love of creating flowers, with a little bit of crazy stitching....

The Garden Gate

....to form a sculpture of sorts.

But wait, there's still more

 Nesting

For those who can't make it in person to Home is Where the Craft Is, I'm revealing some more pieces today. The grand finale reveal will take place tomorrow.

Lollipop Florets

If you do decide to go along for a visit today (161 Albion St, Brunswick) between 12PM and 5PM, there'll be a little pop-up market in the backyard to peruse as well.

The Lawn

Oh, and there'll also be cupcakes!

Opening Night

 Hi-Rise

What a night!

Hi-Rise and Lo-Rise

There was a wonderful crowd of happy people who came along to check out the crafty goodness on opening night.  A huge thankyou to all my crafty friends who came along.

Lo-Rise

I'm so happy that I was able to join in this with group exhibition. Cate has done a wonderful job of bringing together a whole range of different artists and crafters. Cate's house works brilliantly as a temporary gallery space.

If you're out and about in the Brunswick area, you should definitely pop in for a visit. The house is open every day between 12PM and 5PM for the next two weeks at 161 Albion St (enter from the rear yard).

And on with the show!

The day has finally arrived - Home is Where the Craft Is officially opens tonight.

My group of pieces form The Container Garden.

My original containment idea sort of metamorphosed when my containers suddenly started filling with flowers.

It's the ultimate no maintenance water free garden.

I hope that you can come along for a look over the next couple of weeks if you happen to be in Melbourne.

I'll be sharing more of my exhibition pieces during the week.

A big thankyou for the beautiful photos must go to the very talented Cathie, who came to help me set up earlier in the week.

Home is Where the Craft Is

This week (amongst my normal activities), I'm devoting my time to finishing off my pieces for the Fringe Festival Exhibition - Home Is Where The Craft Is.

For those who wanted a sneaky peek of what I've been working on...... one of my pieces is featured on the exhibition postcard, which I'm super chuffed about!

I still have lots and lots of work to do - I've made a list and I've checked it twice. I have plenty of coffee, chocolate, and red cordial on hand to provide the perfect balance of caffeine, sugar, and artificial food colouring to keep me going.

Better get to it then!

My Creative Space...

Blossom Branch - WIP (can you notice the petal that I've missed colouring in?)

 What a week!

I seem to have been flitting about all over the place, making some long overdue visits, sorting out things that have been on the 'to do' list for far too long, organising in advance for things that'll be happening in the future, drinking far too much coffee, attending appointments.... and just generally trying to make altogether correct and wise decisions.

I haven't really had much time for sewing, except for a little bit of work on my pieces for the Fringe Festival Exhibition.... but I have been drawing at every chance I could get.

My creative space

It's been a long and busy week so far - trying to sort out my taxes and financial reports, and lots of testing and appointments happening (which always suck up waaaaaayyyyy toooooo much time).... so I didn't get a chance to finish the Medicare project.

The black and white statement was looking a little bland, so I put it back through the printer and added some tulips. I'm promising myself that I WILL get this done today!

I've also started working on a little side project just for fun.

Cate from Polka Dot Rabbit is curating an Exhibition as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival. It's called Home Is Where The Craft Is.

From Cate's Blog:

The purpose of this exhibition to explore the role of women's crafting as part of and related to one’s home. The items crafted may have a functional purpose at home as opposed to being simply created for artistic or creative purposes.

Crafting is usually carried out in the home, often in a communal area or shared environment such as a kitchen table, living room couch or spare room. The creative process often intersects with other tasks of home life such as watching telly, waiting for the washing machine to finish etc.

The name of my collection for the exhibition is Containment. I'm aiming to make various pieces whose function will be to contain some sort of object or thing. The beauty of a project like this, is that I can be as creative and wild and wacky as I feel like.

That should keep me busy at home for the next couple of weeks!

Now I'm off to check out all of Kirsty's other amazing creative spaces...
