New CurlyPops Teatowels are GO!!!

I've been promising these for the longest time.... but my new teatowel range is finally ready to go!

I have to thank my lovely instagram peeps for helping me make desicisions on the designs...

In the end, most agree that the black stoke looked the best, so I went with that.

My Creative Space...

Well, other than the Great Bedroom Drawer Makeover, I've also been working on some new fabric designs this week....

These ones will be flying (pun intended) their way to my place very soon!

I couldn't resist adding some retro style floral prints as they're my absolute favourites.

The aeroplane fabric was based on this little travel map that I blogged in December.

I thought the aeroplanes would work perfectly with the cloud fabric (which was based on my rainbow design).

I can't wait for them to arrive so I can add them to the rest of my collection!

Remember this dress?

A little while ago, I created a new design especially for the 'A Piece of Cloth' exhibition.

I had it printed onto a lovely cotton sateen basecloth...

....and made it into this lovely dress.

Unfortunately, it doesn't fit me, and so this completely unique dress is now looking for a new home.

It's a Simplicity 2444 Project Runway Pattern. I made it in a Size 14 (according to the pattern).

The measurement from the pattern envelope - Bust 36 Waist 28 Hip 38
The only change that I made was to add side in-seam pockets on both sides.

Summer Floral

There was a knock on the door thismorning with something that I'd been patiently waiting for...... a nice big box of fabric!

I've re-stocked Mixtape, Test Pattern, Scallops in Blue, Scallops in Orange, and Hexy Flowers in White.

But, there's also a brand new fabric....

Introducing Summer Floral which is part of my Bright Lights Collection.

It has plenty of nice bright happy summer colours on a red base.

They're all ready and waiting in the shop!

Custom Cushion / Craft Panels

The last week seems to have been one of those 'blink and you'll miss it' type affairs.

Things that I thought I'd blogged about, haven't actually been blogged about.

Things that I'm supposed to have made, actually have not been made.

There was definitely a couple of op-shopping jaunts.

I even managed to introduce my teen nephew to the benefits of op-shopping. He was particularly impressed that he chose a tag colour which was 50% off on the day that we visited!

There was a bit of behind the scenes design work on a few things that are coming soon....

.... and I introduced this new Custom Cushion / Craft Panel service.

Emerald and Tangerine

I'm into Week 2 of Module 2 of ABSPD now.

I have a mind like a sieve, so sometimes I forget to log in and check the assigned task each day!
This is my version of a gift wrap line - using this years Pantone Colour of the Year (Emerald) combined with last years (Tangerine).

I'm not a huge fan of Emerald Green, but once you mix it in with some brights, it's quite fun.

You may even see these pop up as fabrics later in the year.... you just never know.

Putting together a collection

I thought long and hard about the latest fabric designs that I added to my collection.

I'm always full of ideas, and I'm very quick to start something new before I've finished working on the previous lot.

So this is now the first time that I've designed a proper collection of co-ordinated prints, and it has just happened at the perfect time to fall into line with what I'm learning in Module 2 of The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design.

The whole look is busy and bright and colourful, which is just the way I like it. I hope you do too!

Brand New Fabric Designs

Mixtape - Kona 100% Quilting Weight Cotton Base

I spent quite a bit of time over the holidays, designing and sampling all of my new fabrics.

Then of course, I was stuck with the dilemma of trying to choose which ones to go ahead with for a print run?

Test Pattern - Kona 100% Quilting Weight Cotton Base

I decided to begin with the quirky fun prints - Mixtape and Test Pattern.

Mixtape began as one of my original hand drawn illustrations which I've then coloured digitally and transformed into a pattern. Test Pattern was created using Adobe Illustrator. I'm still pretty chuffed that I've been able to teach myself to use it.

Scallops in Orange - Kona 100% Quilting Weight Cotton Base

This one also co-ordinates with my Linear Fabric in Tangerine.

I wanted to add some more co-ordinates to the range, so I took the scallop pattern that I use in my Bibs, and transformed it into a repeatable fabric pattern.


I'd originally named this pattern Scales, but I really wasn't loving it so I put the call out on Instagram and Twitter and got some fab responses.... which has turned my brain into overdrive again.

I spent all day yesterday working on my creation for the upcoming Gleaners Inc exhibition A Piece Of Cloth.

I'm almost finished...  I'm just missing one vital piece of the puzzle.

I wish I could show you, but it's under wraps until opening night!

Little Steps

Fencespotting - Version 1

It's no secret that I'm totally madly passionate about fabric design. I lose hours and hours sitting in front of the computer... drawing, designing, colouring, tweaking. Sometimes the sun goes down and I don't even realise until I'm sitting in darkness, with a rumbly stomach,  reminding me that I should probably cook some dinner.

Little by little, I'm edging closer towards my dream. Not sure if I can say it out loud because it sounds so preposterous. But, I've learned so much this year through the design courses that I've taken, and through trial and error. I've even managed to teach myself how to use Illustrator.

Anyway, I'm very excited about an upcoming Gleaners Inc Exhibition, where I'm going to put my fabric design skills to the test.

The exhibition titled A Piece Of Cloth is running as part of the Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival from March 18-24 2013.

Gleaners Inc. has invited 30 local designers and craftspeople to be a part of an exhibition entitled "A Piece of Cloth" at their retail space/gallery in Brunswick. 

The show will coincide with LMFF throughout March 2013.

A square or scrap of cloth will be distributed to each person participating and as part of the brief, designers must respond to this fabric, ie; the pattern, the texture or the colour palette, by creating a finished piece incorporating or referencing their scrap.

Finished work in the exhibition will incorporate fashion and clothing, textiles, jewellery and accessories, work on paper or sculptural pieces. Completed projects in the exhibition will be unique interpretations of the objective, each linked by a common thread…or in this case, threads.


I wish I could show you what I'm working on, but I'm keeping it as a surprise just for now!

My Creative Space

I seriously didn't think there'd be any creating at my place this week.

I'm doing some contracting work which means early starts, long (for me) days, and major exhaustion (stupid dodgy lungs). 

Thank goodness my sister came and cleaned up my hovel house yesterday and left me a yummy serving of Sweet & Sour Pork in the fridge to heat up for dinner.... because the lure of a new batch of my fabric designs was all too much.

I dragged myself off that couch and plonked my bum down at the sewing machine, and very soon, I'll be able to show what I'm up to. It's worth the wait. I promise!

They're Totes Awesome

I love a good Tote Bag.

They're seriously awesome for toting things about the place.

I have a very nice collection of Totes. 

I use them all the time. 

I even made myself another one not very long ago.

Then I decided to design some new fabric and make some more.

Perfect for Spring.

I've dedicated every spare minute this week to the design process.

I've also been teaching myself how to use Illustrator (mainly through trial and error).

I'm really excited about the new designs that I have in the pipeline for the upcoming season. Think lots and lots and lots of colour.

Night time iPhone photo is the best I could do this week!

So this is what I've been up to creatively this week. Snuggling up in bed at night with my sketchbook, drawing patterns, and thinking about fabric. I'm ever so slightly obsessed with it at the moment.

If only I was successful enough to keep funding more designs, I'd be ever so happy.

'Til then, I'll keep dreaming...

New Fabric Range

There was much excitement when I heard a knock at the door thismorning. It was the sound of my new fabric range arriving!

Mr Limpy Houdini Attack Dog made lots of noise.... Oh, the poor Delivery Driver.


You may remember that I conducted a little online colour research on the social networks recently.
I posed the question: 

What is your favourite colour combo at this very moment in time?

Linear Design in Aquamarine Colourway

I was very happy to find that Grey/Green Grey/Blue and Blue/Green were some of the most popular combos.

I couldn't resist the same design in one of my fave colour combos!

Clark Loves Edna in Aquamarine Colourway

Then of course there's Clark and Edna. These two were some of my favourite hand-drawn illustrations, so I couldn't resist combining them into a Chic Geek Fun design.

My creative space

I don't have much to show in my creative space today...

I'm halfway through another custom camera bag, but the weather has been too dreary to even take any photos.  For this one, I'm going to use a brand new twist lock from Nikki's shop. I can't wait to try it out!

The bag is denim, with a Lara Cameron Birch Forest print in pink, that I bought before the days of Ink and Spindle.... it may be even classified as vintage by now.

In the meantime, I'm reworking my floral design, and waiting, waiting, waiting, on two more lots of fabric samples to arrive.... guess I'll just have to keep waiting.
