Hearty

There seems to be a bit of a theme happening around these parts...

I'm still trying out some new things and seeing if they work.

I've kept some of these for myself, and also popped some in the shop.

Have a happy Sunday!

Watcha Wearin' Wednesday

Another little package arrived in the mail for me this week - all the way from sunny Queensland!

I absolutely adore floral accessories.... in fact it may just be bordering on an obsession. I spotted these beautiful brooches over at Chasing Purple Dreams a few weeks ago..... and now I have my very own.

Note to self: Get thee to the hairdresser to sort out those grey roots!

Kylie also sent me a lovely matching floral hairclip which is absolutely perfect as I'm still trying to grow out my fringe, meaning that I wear a hairclip virtually every day.

If you'd like to make your own, Kylie has a great tutorial written here, or you could just pop in to Handmade Heaven and buy one.

Thanks so much Kylie, I think I'm in floral love!

Taking Advice

Nikki reminded me earlier this week that it's important to just make something beautiful for oneself.

It's something that I don't seem to do very often. I usually only keep dodgy test pieces and prototypes for me...... then Steph double dared me to actually use one of the sparkly things that I bought this week.

I needed to make this thisafternoon. Some days start out OK, and then something crappy happens. I'm so glad that I can distract myself by just making something.

They made it!

I was a little bit worried that they wouldn't make it, even though I'd express posted a lovely new selection of brooches to Handmade Heaven yesterday.

If you're after a last minute christmas pressie, pop in and say hello to Liesa and have a cupcake for me!

Re-stocked

You can find brand new flower brooches at Georgie Love this week. The colour combo above is my new favourite. I kept one for myself and I've been wearing it everywhere I go.

There's also a lovely deep dark green on offer.....

Christmas Shopping anyone?

A birthday commission

I whipped up a couple of pressies in a hurry on Friday night...

These were for my sisters husbands fathers girlfriend, or my sisters father-in-laws girlfriend, or my brother-in-laws fathers girlfriend..... anyhow, hopefully you get what I mean.

My sister found this tea towel in an oppy in Ballarat - it's perfect because the birthday girl has a black labrador.

My sister also bought her some goodies from the Lark stall at the Daylesford Makers Market - a pocket mirror and an 'I love tea' badge.

I hope she likes all her goodies!

All can be revealed

This story begins a few weeks ago....

After receiving the most amazing birthday gift from Tinniegirl, I was racking my brain trying to think of the perfect handmade gift for her birthday yesterday. It had to be something different, something that she wouldn't make herself, something that she would love.

As usual, all of my best ideas spring into my head in the middle of the night when I'm trying to get to sleep, but my brain won't switch off.....

I made a mental note before going to sleep - she likes accessories and jewellery.

So I decide to test out my big idea for a crazy stiched yarn scarf, but I need some more water soluble stabiliser to turn it into a reality.

Just because it was a good idea in my head, certainly does not mean that it was a good idea in practice.

It turned out to be more like a thick piece of felt, rather than a nice soft drapey scarf!

Note: It was originally twice this length, but this reject has since been recycled into new projects - waste not / want not.

After that little disaster, I needed to come up with a new idea - hence, the no knit woven scarf.

I wanted the scarf to be an everyday accessory, not something only to be worn in winter to take away the winter chills. I made it quite narrow and not chunky at all.

It's nice and soft and drapey, just like it should be.....

The felty scarf has been recycled into flower brooches, along with some dismembered crochet doilies (sorry to the nana who made all of the lovely rings and joined them together), and matching buttons.

I really like the way it all turned out in the end, and I think it would be a great project to use up all of those leftover balls of yarn from finished knitting projects. I'm predicting many more woven scarves in my future (but maybe I should actually finish everything else on the TO DO list first)!

Time for another giveaway

Inspired by Sharon's wonderful giveaway over here at Handmaiden, I'm joining in with another giveaway to celebrate the launch of the new SEWN website....

You can also enter another fabulous giveaway at Sewn, sign up to have your own giveaway, and check out who else is having a giveaway (I promise that I won't be entering and winning all of them)!

I'm giving away one of my new flower brooches.... you may remember the crazy stitching from last week.

I've used it to make flower petals for brooches, and then I've stiffened them and shaped them to look more flower-like. This brooch is approximately 7cm x 7cm.

To win, you just need to leave a comment by June 8th - which is the official SEWN giveaway date.

Don't forget that I'm drawing the winner of my apron giveaway tonight too!

PS - There's another fab giveaway at What Katy Did
