My Creative Space

Top Left - Fabric Stack
Top Right - Sewn Right Sides Together
Bottom Left - Trimmed and Pinked
Bottom Right - Turned Out

I set myself a mission yesterday. I had a wholesale order for thirty bibs that I wanted to get finished by the end of the day.

I knew it was possible. I've sewn so many bibs over the last few months, that I've worked out a really spiffy production line system that works for me (but probably wouldn't work for anyone else).

I was instagramming each step in the production line (#30bibs). It's a great motivation when you're working alone at home!

My poor air conditioner gone to pieces...

Unfortunately I didn't factor in all the interruptions... a visit from the Occupational Therapist to inspect the kitchen renovation, along with the Air-Con Repair man in the morning and then again in the afternoon.

I also zipped around to my sisters for a Roast Pork dinner (utterly irresistible and totally worth it).

I came home again and pressed them nice and flat...

....and topstitched

But at 9.30PM, I admitted defeat. There's still labelling and snapping left to go today.

Oh, and the Air-Con man called to let me know how much the parts will be... so I'm having a free postage sale in the shop.

Enter the code AIRCON at checkout for free postage Australia wide (sorry international peeps). Offer ends next Monday (10th Dec).

So this is it.... the final batch of bibs for the year.

Sadly, no more bib fabric is due to arrive in December.

They're all now ready and waiting in the shop!

Did someone say bibs?

You guessed it.... I've been making bibs again!

These are the latest prints of my very own designs.

There's only one of each until my next fabric delivery arrives on November 28th.

Ready and waiting in the shop!

Snapped

Yesterdays bibs are all snapped and tagged and labelled and ready to pop in the post to Dorothy & Evelyn in Northcote.

I'm going to make a few more in toddler size and pop them in the shop, so keep an eye out!

PS - Carmel has a very timely blog post over at Solomon Sewing about being a no-reply comment blogger.  Have you been leaving me lovely comments and not receiving a reply? I really do try to respond, but if you don't have your email address enabled in your ID, then it makes it really difficult.
Carmel has a link to instructions to fix it too.

PPS - I've hardly commented this month as Blogtoberfest means that my google reader has exploded with the number of daily posts to read up around 150... I wish I was wonder woman and able to do it all, but even SuperPops can't keep up sometimes!

Getting my bibs in a row.

Literally, not metaphorically...

I thought it was high time that I designed my very own unique range of bibs.

After some experimentation with basecloths (I would have dearly loved to have them printed onto a linen blend, but it just wasn't practical), I chose to go with a plain 100% cotton.

This is the first time that I've layered my hand drawn illustrations onto the top of a digitally designed pattern (rather than just a plain background), and I love the effect that it gives.

These are the first five designs in the bib range. I'm really hoping that the mums will love having something completely unique for their bubbas. Oh, and of course, they make perfect gifts for baby showers and birth pressies (hint hint)...

They're in the shop!

My creative space

It's been Bibpalooza this week...

I've been cutting and sewing and pinking and turning out and pressing and topstitching and branding and labelling and tagging and.... (that's a lot of work sheesh)!

I finally finished the fifty bibs..... well almost.

There's just that little matter of a pesky fifty sets of snaps that need to be added. For those of you playing along on Instagram (my username is @curlypops), you might have seen the hashtag #fiftybibs a lot so far this week. Sorry about that.

That's mostly all that's been happening in my creative space...phew!

Bibs'n'Bobs

Before Topstitching, Labelling and Snaps

I had such a busy week last week that I didn't get to sew anything.

Not. One. Single. Thing.

That's not very productive when you run a teeny tiny one person handmade business.

 Before Snaps

To make up for it, I spent the entire weekend sewing and packing up my little orders to send off into the world.

Of course, I forgot to photograph them properly before packing, so these are just a couple of iPhone happy snaps while they were in progress.

One lot of bibs is destined for Gleaners Inc and the other is heading to a brand new stockist - Dorothy & Evelyn. They have stores in Northcote, Brunswick and Windsor.

My little chicken arms had a great workout adding all those little snaps with the snap press!

Today I'm dropping off some Un-Reel Pendants at Open Drawer in Camberwell. Pop in and say hello to Robyn and Prue if you're in the vicinity!

I also need to add some snaps to finish off these sweet little bibs.

Oh and I must introduce you to my new love....

His name is Simon.

Batch o' Bibs

It seems like forever since I've had to drag out the snap press. Surprisingly, there haven't been many new bubbas arriving around these parts lately.

One of my girlfriends is a consultant/stockist of the Cushie Tushies range of re-usable cloth nappies, and now she's also going to stock my handmade bibs.

I couldn't resist making a couple using my Clark Loves Edna fabric (every Chic Geek Bubba needs one)!

My tapestry seems to make a lovely colourful backdrop!

The End of May (nearly)

It was a very foggy drive home from the 21st in Ballarat lastnight, but the good news is that the birthday girl loved her pressies. The clutch and wrist strap will be perfect for when she's off for a night out on the town.... sheesh I can't remember the last time I had one of those!

So today I'm off to the last birthday party of the crazy month of May........ why is it that so many people have a May birthday??? Is there some sort of special event in August, or is it just because it's so bloody cold???

I can't show you todays birthday pressie, because it was made while I was doing some super secret pattern testing, but I can tell you that it's completely gorgeous.

During the week, I also whipped up some bibs during for a couple of girlfriends whose baby girls who need to move up a size from the newborn to the toddler bib. I'm so in love with that cherry print. I wish I had bought some more while the $AUD was high!

Poor little Moo Moo (cough cough), has spent the entire weekend eating birthday cake. His little friend Daniella had a birthday party yesterday afternoon, so I made her a MiniMiss Satchel with an adjustable shoulder strap, using some pink corduroy and a sweet little french print that I bought from the Retromummy Shop. There was more cake at the 21st lastnight, and now he's coming along with me to the birthday party today.... it's such a hard life when you're 3.

Have a happy Sunday!

Making and Listing

Lots of new bibs for the Daylesford Makers Market.... so many pretty fabrics to choose from.

I need to finish off some more handbags today to take to the Northcote Kris Kringle market tomorrow, and then start packing and ticking things off my market list. I have a terrible memory these days, so a list is absolutely essential.

I also must remember to go to the bank and get some change..... so many things to do, so little time!

A gift for Lily

I finally made a choice on the fabrics, and whipped up a little welcome gift for baby Lily.

Some muted pinks mixed with lots of white - I think Lily's mum will like them. I couldn't resist the cute little piggies that I bought from the Retromummy Shop.

I can hear the rain pouring down on my tin roof - what a lovely noise..... happy Monday.

Whoops

Life has been a little hectic at my place lately. Always too many things to do and not enough time and energy to get it all done.

I'd had a request from a girlfriend a few weeks ago for some new bibs. Her kiddies are very dribbly, and so she wanted some thicker bibs with an extra layer of flannel in the middle.

I was eating dinner Wednesday night when I suddenly remembered that I hadn't made the bibs, and I was going to be heading to her house on Thursday for lunch.

Quick as a flash, I cut them out (including the extra layer) and sewed them together......

.... and then realised that I put the bottom flannel layer on back to front.

This is one of those times when I should take heed of the lesson learned, and not start new sewing projects after dinner. Hmmm let's see if that works!

My Creative Space

My creative space had become one giant dumping ground lately, which in turn, made it completely impossible to be creative, so I decided to have a huge clean up.

I went and bought some cheap and cheerful containers, and I've sorted everything so I can find it. I have separate containers for Handbag Supplies, Cutting Implements, Pens Pencils Markers, Pins and Needles, Stamps, Buttons, etc etc. It's still a work in progress but I'm slowly getting there.

I even finally organised for my sewing machine to go in for a service! It had gotten to the point where it wouldn't go any faster when I pressed down on the presser foot, and it was making a horrible noise. Luckily I found a local service that picks up from home and then re-delivers when it's finished and it's cheaper than the local sewing machine shop too.

On my cutting bench - a stack of bibs, cut out and ironed and now just waiting to be sewn up.

The latest boom

Another wave of new babies are on the way. Requests have been flying around thick and fast for bibs and blankies for the new arrivals. Was there a special event nine months ago, or was it just really cold in August / September???

It seems like it's been a long time since I've made bibs, so I altered my template slightly to make the newborn bib a little bit longer. I still need to make some little boy options, and some toddler sized bibs too..... better get to it!

My Creative Space

Not much creativity in my space this week. This is the remnants of the baby card that I managed to whip up for my girlfriend who had a little girl named Cate last Wednesday. She was two weeks earlier than expected, but luckily, I already had some handmade baby girl pressies pre-prepared in the stash for just such an occassion.

I gave her a cute little flannel buggy wrap and some sweet little bibs in girlie prints. Once I'm settled, I'm going to attempt a patchwork floor rug. Does anyone have any tips for making these? I'm thinking of doing a cotton patchwork top, maybe a couple of polar fleece layers in the middle, but then I'm not quite sure whether I should just use cotton for the bottom layer. I just need to keep in mind that it must be really easy to wash and dry.

For lots more creativity, visit Kirsty and play along...

A birthday bib

After 71 posts to celebrate Blogtober...today I'm a little lost for words.....

But I managed to whip up a birthday bib for the birthday boy Nico.....

By the end of the day tomorrow, the number one should be covered in Thomas the Tank Engine cake....yum!
