Mon Cherie Francais

After trying on Liesl's wonderful beret at Sewjourn, I couldn't wait to make one of my very own!

My Beret Pattern arrived in the post Thursday morning, so I got to work Saturday afternoon, and whipped one up for myself.  It was super quick and easy - it only took me about an hour to cut out and sew (after I'd chosen the fabric from the stash). As with all Nikki's patterns, the step by step process in the instructions was a dream.

There are plenty of variations to choose from so that you can make it in a style that suits. I made mine up using the medium size, with a shallow crown.

I've got the puffy steroid face going on at the moment

I did consider making it in a bright vintage floral, but I thought it best to stick to a classic wool fabric in a classic Melbourne steel grey colour for the first one.

I wore it all day yesterday and it kept my head toasty and warm on such a cold winters day.

Of course, I couldn't possibly resist adding some colour via the lining fabric. I received this gorgeous pink and green floral from Tracey at Thrift Nest Sew..... and it just so happens, that it's the exact same floral the Bec used on her Panel Bag.

If you'd like to chuckle about what Liesl's beret got up to at Sewjourn, pop on over and visit Gypsy. It turns out that our Gypsy is quite a poet!

Merci

I always love it when I arrive home to find a surprise waiting for me in the letterbox, although I really didn't like the very surprising electricity bill that arrived last week!

Luckily, the surprise that I received on Monday more than made up for it. The very lovely Sandrine sent me one of her amazingly beautiful hand-felted merino and silk scarves. It's the perfect accessory for the move from Winter to Spring, the colours are just perfect for Melbourne, and it also matches my gorgeous red beret.

I'm going out for lunch on Friday for my mums birthday, so I'll definitely be wearing it.

Thanks so much for the surprise Sandrine.

Merci Ravissant Femme

Bonjour! Comment allez-vous? (Hello! How are you)

Well, that's the extent of my memories from Year 7 French class at Hamilton High School.

Pensez-vous de mon nouveau béret? (Do you like my new beret?)

I cheated with this one and used an online translator.

Anyhow, enough of dreaming about living in France, and speaking fluent French. I just did a little swap with Sandrine from Histoire de Soie, and I received this absolutely beautiful cherry red hand felted beret. I've already taken it on a little test run while I was out and about today.

... and here's a nice blurry shot of me wearing the beret (artwork by Tinniegirl in the background). I need to get a robot arm that doesn't shake for the self portraits.

Sandrine makes absolutely wonderful hats, berets, and headpieces which you can find in her Etsy shop, or if you check out her blog, you'll find all of the information that you need on upcoming markets.

Thanks so much Sandrine - this was a really fun swap!
