It's a Toy Society Christmas

I just love The Toy Society.

The whole concept of dropping a toy for some unsuspecting passerby to find, fills my heart with glee. It's been far too long since I played along, and so the worldwide christmas drop was the perfect thing to get me back into the swing!

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to win this beautiful christmas themed softie from Anya at Banban Designs. His name is Bingle. I thought that he would be absolutely perfect to share the christmas love, and so I decided to send him on a very important mission.

On my way to a christmas get together, I stopped by the local park and quickly attached him to a tree.

It was such a beautiful day - perfect for just a bit of hanging around and waiting to be found.

I checked about six hours later on my way home, and Bingle had disappeared, so I'm hoping that he has found a fantabulous new family to live with.

Check him out over at The Toy Society..... and all of the other worldwide christmas droppers!

In Print

If you could hear squeals of delight coming from way out west Friday night, don't worry, it was just me opening the current issue of Patchwork and Stitching Magazine.

There's a wonderful heartwarming story about The Toy Society, featuring one of my softies - Fuzzy Bear
I was so excited, I rushed straight over to visit all of my family members to show them. Fuzzy Bear was dropped here. I hope he found a lovely new home to live in.

Bianca has created an amazing place to join with other people who just want to share the love.

Thankyou Bianca for making us all smile....

PS - There's also a feature on Miss Muggins in the current issue

Toy Society Valentine

I finally finished my Toy Society heart that has been languishing in my creative space for the last few weeks. It actually found it quite relaxing to sit on the couch for a little while each night, and stitch away until all the individual hearts were finished. I was even having second thoughts about giving it away after all those hours of work!

But.... it's purpose in life was to spread the love on the Valentines Day

I took a break from my packing escapades on Saturday and hopped in the car with a couple of helper elves, and we headed down to the beach.

The weather was perfect and there were people everywhere, so it was a bit difficult to find somewhere to leave it that wasn't too suspicious.

I really hope it finds a nice new home.

You can check it out on The Toy Society blog here.

My Creative Space

Okay now, just stand back and take a deep breath..... I've been debating whether I should actually publicise the state of my creative space....aka my kitchen!
There's nothing like a bit of worldwide public humiliation to make me clean up.

I've been far too busy trying to whip up some items for Handmade Help. There's a little basket of baby clothes on the chair, and some kids t-shirts that I'm appliqueing on the ironing board (that all came to a standstill when I ran out of vliesofix).

The bench is covered in piles of fabric to make bags for the Rainbow Comfort Packs. I can't make it to Nikki's amazing sewing bee in Brunswick on Saturday, but I am going to use any spare time that I have on the weekend to make some bags, and then drop them off next week.

If you look even closer, you'll notice that even the Milo and the breakfast cereal didn't get put away thismorning...eeek!

....and on my ottoman, my poor neglected Toy Society Valentine. There's been a little bit more stitching (while watching So You Think You Can Dance) and a few more hearts added. This will definitely be finished tomorrow night so that I can whip up some softies for Handmade Help and The Toy Society.

You can find lots more creativity at Kootoyoo....

A little way to help - updated

It just gets worse each time I turn on the news.

There is a small way that we can use our crafty skills to help. Sarah from With A Cherry On Top and Bianca from The Toy Society are going to try to find an organisation who will take handmade toys to distribute to children who have lost everything in the bushfires. Rach from Grandy and Baa had the same idea too.

If you think you can help, please email thetoysociety@gmail.com

Updated: Rach from Grandy and Baa is collecting handmade clothes (appliqued onsies, t-shirts and skirts etc) - head on over if you can help out.

Sparkly Green Knickers is going to donate the proceeds from her Etsy Shop to the Bushfire Appeal...

It's a dropping frenzy

The Christmas Toy Society frenzy has begun in earnest.......

My helper elves came to the park to assist with the drop. They wanted to tie it right up the top, but we settled on half way up. We even stayed and played in the park for another hour or so (and I got a little bit sunburnt). A boy on a bmx bike had a bit of a look at the softie, but I think it was just a bit too pink for him!

You can check out the Flickr Group here where the drops are being uploaded as they happen, or the Toy Society blog here where drops are also being uploaded. A huge thankyou to a very special person for her fantastic organisational work in organising the whole shebang!

In other important news, there are a couple of fantastic pre-christmas giveaways happening:

Kristie from MissieKrissie is giving away a beautiful handmade necklace and bracelet with your own personal inscription, and Leigh from Love Leigh Things is giving away a Denise Schmidt Quilt It Kit. Head on over and enter!

Ready to drop

My softie is ready to start her secret Toy Society Christmas mission....

Keep an eagle eye out on the Toy Society blog to find out the rest of the story.

The last minute christmas list

Photo - Master X's glitter hands after sprinkling reindeer dust Christmas Eve 2007

I need to get a couple more things finished for Christmas and if I don't write myself a list, I'm sure to forget!

Last year I made Reindeer Dust for all the kiddies. I saw it on a few different blogs last year, but I didn't save the links so I apologise in advance for not linking.

It's really simple - I just mixed bird seed and glitter and put it in little ziplock bags. I then put them inside handmade fabric drawstring bags and attached the little instruction card which reads:

**** Magic Reindeer Dust ****
On Christmas Eve,
Sprinkle all over your lawn,
The glitter will shine in the moonlight,
And lead santa to your door before dawn.

I still have leftover bird seed from last year.... I just need to find it.

The other extremely important thing that I need to make, is a softie for this weekends huge worldwide synchronised Toy Society drop. It's all very exciting! I just need to hunt through the stash to find the perfect fabric.... wish me luck.

Babushka News

Head on over for an update!

A Super Secret Toy Society Mission

Last week I received this beautiful babushka softie in the mail from The Toy Society. I was given a super secret mission to make a drop somewhere in the world where it would be appreciated. Ms Babushka lived on my kitchen bench for a few days (it's ok, she was well fed and watered) while I made my super secret plans......

The day of my super secret mission finally arrived. I strapped Ms Babushka into the car seat (she's very safety conscious and wouldn't sit in the front seat).....

We drove and drove until we found a pretty place with a big sign out the front. Ms Babushka wanted to go and live at The Sofitel Mansion and Spa but I explained to her that she had a greater mission than to live a life of luxury.....

So instead, we pulled up out the front of The Open Range Zoo. It was quite busy and there were lots of people around so we had to be super sneaky....

I left little Ms Babushka hanging in a tree just near the Hippo Crossing sign and waved farewell.....

Head on over to The Toy Society to find out more....
