A little red dress

I had a fun day out with Bec today..... a scrumptious lunch (we both ordered a big breakfast of course), and then we spent the afternoon checking out some lovely handmade and crafty shops.

I found this gorgeous vintage red dress at a new and very cute little shop in Yarraville named Mandrake and Willow. They stock lots of lovely vintage and handmade items.

I bought it home and teamed it one of my flower brooches....

We also found another new shopfront for The Craft Circle. They stock everything that you could ever need for all different types of felting (nothing acrylic - all pure wool). They also have hand dyed and commercially dyed felt sheets, plus books, craft kits, and sorts of lovely things. The website hasn't been updated yet but they're at 52 Williamstown Rd, Yarraville.

After all that eating and shopping and excitement, we ended the day at the gelati shop - PERFECT!

Blogtoberfest Day 25: Chooktober

I treated myself to another little pressie last week.

I spotted this sweet little chicken doorstop (made with a lovely vintage floral) over at Swirly Thoughts, and I just couldn't resist. I currently have one of those ugly plastic doorstops for the front door so this is a much better replacement.

Mr Chicken has a little zip at the bottom, so he arrives empty and you just fill him up with rice. I had brown or arborio to choose from, so I thought Mr Chicken would probably prefer brown rice.

When my package arrived, Lynsey had also included some of her gorgeous vintage storybook tags (perfect for the upcoming christmas pressies), little recycled notebooks, and a koala teatowel all the way from the UK!

Thankyou Lynsey for the extra sweet suprises. If you'd like your own doorchook, you can find one right here.

Blogtoberfest Day 7: I've been Finkified

I've been roadtesting one of Jay's new and fabulous Finki creations for the last week and a half.

It's the Finki Bill Book.... that cover makes me chuckle every time I take it out of my handbag.

Even though I'm a bargain hunter (some may say tightwad), I still seem to be able to spend a lot of money. If I'm bored, I usually head to the op shops, or to a cafe for lunch.
I've tried to rein in my spending on many previous occasions by listing it all on a spreadsheet, but inevitably, after a couple of days, I forget to update it and the whole plan gets thrown out the window......

.... which is why I love this simple little book that I can throw in my handbag. Each time I spend money, it only takes me 30 seconds to grab my little blue bill book and write it down. I'm absolutely amazed, but it has stopped me making random unnecessary purchases at least twice in the last week (because I knew I'd have to write it down and justify it to myself later).

After only a week and a half, I can already see that there's a distinct pattern to my spending - Groceries, Op Shopping, Maccas Drive-Thru, and Australia Post!

I'm going to buy myself another one this Saturday at the Northside Makers Market so that I can have two separate books - one for personal spending and one for business spending. It'll make it so much easier for me when it comes along to sorting out my business stuff at tax time.

My bank account says thankyou Jay.

Shopping.... who me???

To cheer myself up the other day, I decided to a little bit of online shopping therapy.

I bought this lovely vinyl wall decal from What Katy Did. The same lovely Katy who designed my fabulous new blog header.

I'm going to install it on my glass sliding door so that I have a nice view of cherry blossoms from the kitchen, instead of a fence, and the neighbours clothesline (one of the many joys of suburbia)!

If you read my blog, then you've probaby noticed that I have a bit of an obsession with adding snaps to many of my projects (I've even managed to incorporate some into my quilt square).

Carmel from Solomon Sewing alerted me to the fact that Snaps Australia is having a huge 40% off sale, and there's also a free shipping deal, so I bought myself a snap press, both sizes of dies and hundreds of snaps!

Oh and I also bought myself one of these extremely funky Finki Art Pendant / Brooches at the Made'n'Thornbury Market a couple of weeks ago. I just couldn't resist the flying ducks. There's plenty more in the Finki Shop.

Now I'm all shopped out!

A little crafty shopping...

Luckily Steph reminded me that I'd forgotten to show my crafty purchases from Sundays expedition....

I've been looking for one of these woollen hats with the dangly bits for a while now...... I know it's summer soon but by next winter I would still be searching, so I just had to buy it!

I also bought myself these lovely handpainted socks.... I just like them because they were happy and colourful....

.....and I thought I'd try a self portrait of me and my new hat just for a laugh....
Looking at those wrinkles, I think it might just be time for a little botox or much more sleep!
