Hijacked

This is what happens at my house when somebody (who is extremely impatient) wants his dinner. It also must be Kit-e-Kat Chicken Chunks in Gravy as he won't eat anything else.

Anyway, after the interruption, I was trying to photograph todays oppy finds....

I spent most of the day in the car with my mum, but we did have time for a little opping on our travels.

I found a new op shop today (new to me - not new new) at the Sunshine Hospital. That's where I found the lovely orange cup and saucer set. They're a bit stained and grubby, so I have them soaking at the moment. They will look lovely in my bookcase. I think they were $4 for the set.

In the afternoon, I was going to get stuck in traffic at a level crossing, so I took a detour to one of the local Salvos shops (ok - I would have only had to wait about three minutes for the train to pass, but it was as good an excuse as any).

I headed straight for the big basket of doilies, and sorted through them all. I didn't find any that were perfectly suited for my brooches, but I picked out a few to experiment with anyway. On the way out, I spotted the little brown oven dish - it's the perfect size for a meal for one!

Boxes, Boxes Everywhere

I'm still slowly unpacking, and the pile of boxes is getting a little smaller as the days go by.
I've even been substituting boxes for pieces of furniture.

I've been searching for a new bedside table for a couple of weeks now. I've been to three different furniture shops and only found one bedside table that I actually liked. Then there was a slight problem, as the bedside table was part of a set. To split the set, they wanted to charge $350 for one bedside table...eeeeek!

But then yesterday, I headed out, and the op-shop gods were smiling as I found this little beauty at the Salvos for $15.

It needs a little TLC.... but isn't it lovely!

What I'm wearing Wednesday

I'm cheating a little today because this is actually what I was wearing yesterday..... and I was super excited because I worked out how to use the self timer on my camera. So no more waiting for someone to visit so I can talk them into snapping a few photos for me.

After my slightly disastrous skirt making efforts a few weeks ago, I found this one (which is very similar in style), at the Salvos. The thing that I love the most about it, is that it has very groovy pockets. I have a pocket obsession.... I won't wear things without pockets and I would never buy a pair of pants or shorts that didn't have pockets.

Head on over to visit Fii to see who else is playing along.

Fate

Tinniegirl and I were driving past the Salvos yesterday, so of course we made a little detour inside...... to find this bracelet.
The name is a little different, but I think it's beautiful. I wonder what happened to Camilla?

Thrifted Tuesday....at the forgotten Op Shop

You may remember Big Cat and CurlyPop's excellent op-shopping adventures from last Wednesday.......

Wednesday night, after Cathy and Betsy had made their way back home, I realised that I had forgotten about one of the local op-shops. It's tucked away in a really strange little street near the back of the train station.
On my shopping travels yesterday, I decided to pop in for a visit. I found this cool old apron for $2.50....
....and a nice vintage floral sheet for $4.50. I also picked up a couple of toys for my nephews and a couple of nice summer tops for me. What fun!

This is........my favourite op shop find

Thanks to Liz for this weeks theme.....it was really difficult to limit it to picking just one thing!

I bought these chairs from the Salvos in Deer Park in 1997 for $5 each. I've had many op-shop chairs come and go from my house over the years but these ones have stayed with me for a very long time......

We now have a one in, one out rule......if I bring home a chair, then I have to get rid of a chair. Only two people live in my house but I have seating for at least twenty five inside and another fourteen outside!

Head on over to Angela's blog to check who else is playing along....

Thrifted Tuesday and Wednesday

Tuesday's adventures took me to Footscray so I stopped off at the Brotherhood of St Laurence on Geelong Rd, Kingsville.
They didn't have any craft supplies but they did have a great book section and all books were only $1 each. I also bought 2 pairs of jeans (all jeans are $4 a pair) but they're already in the washing machine and I forgot to take a photo first. I didn't try them on, but at $4 a pair, if they don't fit, then I'll just chop them up and make them into something else!

Today's little adventure took me to Sunshine so I stopped off at The Salvos in Deer Park.

I found this big bag of buttons....it was marked $15 but they gave it to me for $8.75. They're a bit grubby so I'm going to wash them tonight and see if I find any gems. It's a bit like fossicking for gold!

As I was searching through the clothes, I noticed a lot of items that had originally had Suzanne Grae tags but they'd been cut off. I picked out a few that I wanted to buy.

This brown three quarter sleeve shirt for $6.75.....

This dress for $10.25....I think it's purple satin underneath and then it has a black lace overlay....

......and this red t-shirt for $4.75.

I asked the lady at the counter about them and they are all new items that have been donated by Suzanne Grae. Each one has a flaw, but they are all brand new. The brown shirt has some loose stitiching which I can fix with a needle and thread, the dress needs a new zip (I can't do this but my mother-in-law can do it for me), and the red shirt is missing a decorative button at the front which I can also fix myself. There are lots of tops to choose from but you have to check for faults and also for sizing as they've removed the sizes when they've cut the tags off!

I also found this pretty little skirt which is way too small for me but I think the fabric will make a nice handbag.

I Op Therefore I Am - Giveaway!

I've been reading this cool blog for a while so I thought I'd join in the fun. I love op-shopping and searching for a bargain. What I love most is trying to find something individual or different, but it's getting harder as more people are trying to do the same.

Today I visited my local St Vinnies and Salvation Army Stores .
I was actually searching for sewing supplies today. At Vinnies, I found some really nice light denim fabric, some royal blue corduroy, 2 patterns (including the cool knitting pattern from the 80's classic Shirl's Neighbourhood), and some nice blue beads. Total cost was $11.50. At the Salvos I bought 2 kids curtain panels that I can cut up to make into something else, and a bright pink corduroy jacket and pair of trackies for me. Total was about $12.00.

One thing that I did notice today is that both stores were really busy. At Vinnies, there were about 20 customers in total. There were 3 of us looking through the sewing / craft section at the same time and then about 5 people looking in the crockery section (while I was checking out cups and saucers). They had lots of nice vintage saucers but not many cups today.

I don't knit so I am giving away the Shirl's Neighbourhood Knitting Pattern on my blog (I only bought it because I couldn't possibly leave it behind). If you would like it, leave a message on my blog and I will add your name to the draw.

I will draw the winner next Monday.
