Hearty

There seems to be a bit of a theme happening around these parts...

I'm still trying out some new things and seeing if they work.

I've kept some of these for myself, and also popped some in the shop.

Have a happy Sunday!

Lifesavers.... get a HOLE lot more out of life

A couple of weeks ago I made a frivolous purchase of nailpolish. I haven't worn nailpolish for years, and have no intention of wearing it at the moment, but while waiting at the chemist, I just couldn't resist those colours. I was completely seduced by their point of sale marketing.

It's been sitting on the kitchen bench ever since... just waiting.

The eldest nephew was visiting earlier this week and he needed to make a gift for a friend, so I suggested that we make a necklace.

We used some really pretty silver chain and findings from my stash, and we painted a washer with the different colours of nailpolish to make a pendant.

When I posted this pic on instagram, Carmel mentioned that it looked like a Lifesaver, and it totally does too!

In a complete moment of serendipity, Cintia from My Poppet posted a DIY Neon Pop Necklace tute using nailpolish on the same day.

The gift was a hit, so I decided to make another for myself.

In pink and orange of course.. it's a bit of fun and something different!

In a while crocodile....

Things sometimes happen at a snails pace around here.

The best laid plans are often thrown out the window on a whim.....

.....but eventually, I end up with something special.

What Katy Did

My What Katy Did Design wall decal arrived in the post last week - I haven't managed to put it on the sliding door just yet, as I'm thinking that I should probably clean the glass first, but isn't it just stunning. I love the combination of the birds and the blossoms.

Inside the package were also some gorgeous suprises!

A beautiful piece of fabric with CurlyPops printed with Katy's Yudu. She must have been reading my mind because I need to make a fabric banner to attach to my tablecloth for the markets. Now I can just add a border to this piece and voila - done.

...and also inside was this beautiful beaded necklace which I've been wearing ever since.

Thanks so much Katy!

Love Handmade Jewellery

I've realised lately that I have a passion (some may say addiction) for handmade jewellery.
I have a huge array from casual and funky, to formal and dressy, but I absolutely love all of it!

Usually the most difficult question I ask myself each morning is "Which pieces of jewellery shall I wear with my outfit"?

Following my passion, I bought myself a pair of these beautiful Belle earrings from Sharon at Handmaiden. They're a lovely silvery grey, perfect for an occassion where I need to dress up.

Sharon has just launched her Etsy store this weekend where you can find all of her beautiful creations.

I've also been coveting the lovely jewellery creations of Lauren Williams for quite a while now.

I was lucky enough to do a swap with Lauren and I received this gorgeous necklace and matching ring. The necklace pendant can be taken off and then it doubles as a brooch. Yah for multifunctional jewellery!

Lauren has a Made It shop full of lovely creations to check out.

Now..... I need to decide what to wear today!

Watcha Wearing Wednesday

It's going to be a hot one again today, so I'm wearing something light and cool that I found at the oppy a few weeks ago - as usual, I'm wearing it unironed and crinkly.

Shiny shiny handbag ring and a piece of leather cord to make a necklace.

Now I just need to find my thongs (of the flip-flop variety)!

More kiddies crafting

More babysitting today so here are a few more things that we have made this weekend with some of the ideas from the 101 Things to Make book that I found at the Op Shop for 50 cents.

I thought that these were lovely button bracelets but I was informed that they are actually knuckle dusters (inspired by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).

It's a bit hard to see in this photo, but these are cardboard headbands. The boys used the decorative hole punches to punch all around and then we made wool twisties to stick on as long pieces of hair. They looked really funny when they were wearing them...

We made some grey pom poms to turn into mice (just need to buy some googly eyes to stick on) and then I made these girly pom poms while the boys were making necklaces.

Once they finished their jewellery making today, they packed all the necklaces into an egg carton and went and knocked on some of the neighbours doors to try to sell their home made jewellery. Not one neighbour bought anything! Oh well, at least they demonstrated their entrepreneurial skills!

Just stuff

There's been a lot of babysitting happening this week and not much crafting.

My nephew and one of his schoolfriends are at my house today so they've been getting into my bead and button stash. This is my nephews creation.....I think he's going to give it to his mum.

I'm not really making anything, just adding clasps and catches and re-sorting the beads every time they get mixed together (even though I have told them one hundred times not to mix the beads). Ah the joys of crafting with kids! At least I'm not cleaning up paint and glue (although it is still quite early so that just might be next)!

It's going to be a long hot weekend.

It's going to be a hot one again this weekend so I think I might just take it easy, hang out and get some little projects finished. If it gets too hot, I'm going to have to go and jump in the pool!

I've nearly finished everything for the CD swap (but I can't post any more photos yet - I don't want to ruin the suprise). I've also finally finished my name embroidery for my Brown Owls uniform. I'm extremely slow at embroidery but it's actually been really enjoyable because I can sit on the couch and stitch away while I'm watching telly (I finished it off tonight while I was watching The Biggest Loser). It's a welcome change from listening to the whirring from the sewing machine, but it now means that my sewing mess has entered yet another room of the house! Maybe this means that I can go shopping for more storage items.

I've been doing a little Etsy shopping this week. I saw this lovely necklace on Kirsty's blog and I've been keeping an eye on the Chocolate and Steel blog and etsy shop ever since. So I bought a lovely little pendant and necklace for myself. I can't wait until it arrives in the mail!

This is......me taking a photo of myself with my favourite accessory

I'm a little early in posting this one but I'm going to the Flemington Craft Market in the morning so I probably won't have time tomorrow.

This is a necklace that my older sister bought me for my birthday last year. It's called Circled With Love. She bought it here (there's a much better photo of it also). It can be worn dressed up or dressed down and it's my favourite!
