Hi there! If you have visited me before today, you probably know that I love to create mixed media projects. Well, I took that passion and with a lot of encouragement and support from my both my sweet husband, Scott and dear friend / design team mate ~ Sue Lelli and started up a new color challenge where other mixed media enthusiasts are invited to share their creativity! Without rambling on and on, I'm very excited to introduce to:
Here's the scoop: Basically, a new color combination will be introduced every other week on Thursdays at 11:59 PM Eastern and will run for nearly two weeks ending on the second Tuesday at 6:00 PM Eastern. A Featured Artist will be chosen by the DT and the sample will be prominently displayed on A Mixed Media Color Challenge.
For additional inspiration from Sue and for COMPLETE details on how to join along, please refer to the MMCC site. ***Please keep in mind this is a MIXED MEDIA color challenge therefore we would like for you to COMBINE at least TWO types of MEDIUMS (ie: paints, markers, pastes, mists, inks, etc...), in addition to the "traditional" stamped / colored image to create your project. Let's get creative folks and Create Outside The Box!
For nearly the next two weeks, we will be playing with the following color combination:
Scott and I will be celebrating our 9th year wedding anniversary this coming Saturday so I took this opportunity to create a little something for him ;) Once I painted and applied the crackle medium to the background, (how~to shown below), I randomly added the following products: MFT MIX-ables Steel Shimmer Mist, stamped checkerboard image from MPD Distressed Background Blocks and Ranger Distress paint (pink).
Close up, you can see the checkerboard design peeking out from under the embellishments which includes another silver embossed die cut rose that was stamped using MPD Blooming Roses and die cut using the coordinating die from Die-namics MPD Rose Bouquet.
I also made a card for Scott which features many similar items used to create the canvas with the addition of the pink paper used which was made using a Gelli Arts printing plate. I stamped one of the sweet sentiments from Clearly Sentimental About You on a die cut strip.
In case you were wondering how I created the crackled backgrounds on both projects, I took a few steps along the way to share the creative process:
Step 1. Paint surface with acrylic paint color of choice (in my opinion, darker colors work best for this step). Allow to dry or use heat tool.
Step 2. Apply Martha Stewart Crackle Medium. Allow to dry or speed up the process using heat tool being careful not to overheat or it will bubble and burn.
Step 3. Apply lighter color of acrylic paint and watch the magic appear right before your eyes!
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit ~ I hope I have inspired you to mix things up! Please hop on over to A Mixed Media Color Challenge for COMPLETE details on how to join in the fun and for some jaw dropping inspiration!
Be Sweet ;)
