Abstract Art Journaling 26

Mona Pendleton | Tuesday, November 17, 2015 @ 9:56 PM | , , ,

Hi there! I hope you are having a great week! Today I have a couple of abstract pages to share in my over sized art journal.
I have an appreciation for abstract art and would love to get better at creating it so what better way to start by pulling out an over sized art journal and start painting?! My source of inspiration was an on line Donna Downey class.
My hand drawn flowers and circles are a bit wonky but it's abstract art right? ;) LOL Obviously there's always room for improvement but if I don't start somewhere, I'll never improve.

I'm joining along with the PaperArtsy challenge where the theme is to create a piece of Abstract Art.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

strength, hope, love, faith, courage...a Healing Journal 28

Mona Pendleton | Thursday, October 8, 2015 @ 11:49 PM | , , ,

Hi there! I'm so happy it's Friday! Today I have a couple of projects to share that were inspired by the Donna Downey Studios 1ST SEMESTER - 48 WEEKS ONLINE COURSE which I highly recommend if you are looking to learn new techniques or refresh your skills.
My first project are two pages that I created in my oversized 11"W x 16"H art journal which was directly inspired by Donna Downey:
Both pages feature lots of texture using a combination of Sizzix melt art rubber molds as well as a Donna Downey floral stencil:
The girl is a bit more primitive than what I've sketched and painted in the past. I think I sort of lost the primitive look by adding a messy bun hair do which I learned several years ago from a Christy Tomlinson's e-course that I took:

My next project, a Healing Journal, is near and dear to my heart because I made it for my sweet sister Marlene. While I was in the midst of working on the previous art journal pages, I got word that Marlene, whom is 8 years older than myself, was newly diagnosed with Stage 2 Intraductal Breast Carcinoma as well as positive lymph nodes. She is going for a bone scan, chest x-ray, MRI and ECHO tomorrow which will determine the course of treatment. Please keep my sister Marlene and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
I searched high and low for a hard cover writing journal to make this project. I thought it would be a great way for Marlene to express all of her emotions while on the #^%* cancer roller coaster:
I combined various acrylic paints, Prima products including: stencils, modeling paste, gel medium,  stamps and texture paste:

Thanks so much for visiting. PLEASE don't forget to get a MAMMOGRAM!!! and please keep my sister Marlene and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
I'm entering my Healing Journal in the Art It Friday Show Your Face post as well as the Words 2 Scrap By challenge where the theme is "Fight Like A Girl".
I hope you have an amazing weekend!

grow happiness 22

Mona Pendleton | Sunday, October 4, 2015 @ 6:52 PM | , , , ,

Hi there! I hope you had a great weekend! Today I had fun playing in an oversized art journal. I was inspired by Donna Downey's 48 weeks on-line course week 3 which I purchased several weeks ago.
I used a variety of paints, stencils, stamps, texture pastes and gel medium:

For the title, I stamped "grow happiness" using Prima stamps:
The stenciled detail was added using a couple of Tim Holtz stencils:
Along with lots of texture is a flower garden made from painted flowers from my stash:

To begin, I collaged pages from an old Webster's dictionary onto the canvas:
then I had a lot of fun painting the background and poppies:
I also made a card in celebration of fall featuring a PTI Friendship Jar full of Fall goodness:
For color inspiration for both projects, I joined along with the current Colour Me challenge:
