believe... 31

Mona Pendleton | Wednesday, October 30, 2013 @ 10:40 AM | , , ,

Hi there and Happy November! Time sure flies ~ before we know it, we'll be ringing in 2014! It's time for an all new Mixed Media Color Challenge! Thanks to all who took the time to share their creativity with us and thanks to those who left encouraging comments :)

In celebration of the upcoming holidays, this will be our last challenge of 2013! Rather than the usual color story to play with we are offering you, the artist, the option to play with whatever colors inspire you to create a holiday mixed media project!
I was inspired to create a 3D home decor piece using some of the new products and techniques that Finnabair introduced to me this past summer when I attended one of her classes. This piece has so many layers of gel medium, tissue paper, paints, mists, chipboard embellishments and metal trinkets I lost count!
Once I had the wooden box covered with music note tissue paper, I added texture using the Stargaze stencil. For added interest and design, I randomly stamped the polka dot image from Distressed Background Blocks and the text image from Collage Backgrounds:
To create the Christmas tree, I layered various metal trinkets from my stash including several that I have had for about 10 years! (the gingerbread man piece and the believe word plaque). Once I built the tree and had it adhered in place, I painted with various paints, mists, sprays and inks.
Thank you for stopping by! Please be sure to visit the Mixed Media Color Challenge site for some fab inspiration from Sue and for complete details on how to join along.

For nearly the next two weeks, we will be playing with the following colors: peach, brown and tan
For my sample, I created a layout featuring a photo of Meredith and Connor that was taken years ago while on vacation on Maui:
After creating the background with a variety of patterned papers from my stash, I added lots of texture:

The diamond pattern was created using the Graduated Diamonds Stencil. I randomly stamped the text image from Collage Backgrounds and stamped a sentiment for the title from Timeless:

For sketch inspiration, I joined along with the Keeping the best sketch challenge:

Bless Your Nest...AMMCC9 31

Mona Pendleton | Thursday, October 3, 2013 @ 8:55 PM | , , , , ,

Hi there! I'm so happy the weekend is here. It's Fall break for Connor and Meredith already and we are headed to San Diego and Los Angeles Saturday morning for a few days of fun :)

It's time for an all new Mixed Media Color Challenge. Thanks so much to all who joined along with challenge #8 ~ once again, the gallery was full of so many beautiful projects! For nearly the next two weeks, we will be playing with the following color combination: pink, red and blue:
For this challenge, I was inspired to create a project featuring a variety of die cuts, stamps and texture:
To begin, I added texture to the background using the Brick Wall Stencil along with texture paste. After applying paint, I was ready to embellish. Peeking out from behind the chipboard birdcage is a clock that was stamped using Timeless:
I added an elegant die cut butterfly that was made using one of the dies from Fancy Butterflies along with a pretty rose blossom:
I adhered a trio of store bought flowers along with a pretty crocheted one made by my sweet sister Tina :)
I gave the naked chipboard bird's next a coat of gesso followed with a coat of crackle medium. For the title, I stamped a sentiment from Inspired By Birds on a die cut sentiment strip then doodled around the perimeter:
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit ~ I hope I have inspired you to mix things up! Please hop on over to A Mixed Media Color Challenge for COMPLETE details on how to join in the fun and for some awesome inspiration from Sue!
I'll be back tomorrow with more to share for the MFT October teasers Day 4 ~ hope to see you then!

A Steampunk Witch's Hat...A MMCC 8 37

Mona Pendleton | Thursday, September 19, 2013 @ 8:55 PM | , , , , ,

Hi there! So happy the weekend is nearly here! I've been looking forward to this weekend for a long time because April will be arriving early Friday morning and will be visiting us until Tuesday morning. April, her Mom and I will be working on her wedding invitations all day Sunday so Scott and I have been busy getting things together to make the production run smoothly :) Both fingers and toes crossed!

It's time for an all new Mixed Media Color Challenge! I'm so happy to see so many beautiful and inspiring projects in the gallery week after week. It seems as though many crafters from around the world are enjoying creating outside the box! For nearly the next two weeks, we will be playing with the following color combination: Lavender, Light Green and Gray.
In celebration of Halloween, I made a Steampunk Witch's Hat:
To begin, I embossed craft foil using an embossing folder then covered a paper mache witch's hat, applied black alcohol ink then adhered the feather trim around the perimeter. I topped it with a little black crow and a funky industrial like birdcage trinket:
I stamped the BOO sentiment from Trick or Sweet then framed it with an altered metal frame:
I also added another sentiment from Trick or Sweet which I stamped on a doily made using a die from Die-namics Blueprints 6:
I surrounded the sentiments with other metal trinkets, flowers, leaves and a die cut flourish:
I completed it with a shimmery metallic bow, metal gear and flower embellishment:
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit ~ I hope I have inspired you to mix things up! Please hop on over to A Mixed Media Color Challenge for COMPLETE details on how to join in the fun and for some awesome inspiration from Sue!

Live...AMMCC7 36

Mona Pendleton | Thursday, September 5, 2013 @ 8:55 PM | , , , , , ,

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by :) This afternoon, Scott and I drove Connor to Tuscon which is a 1 hour and 1/2 drive away, so he could attend a rock concert with a friend. While he was at the concert, we went to dinner and a movie. Just felt more comfortable doing that with him than him making that drive so late at night.

It's time for an all new Mixed Media Color Challenge! I'm so happy to see so many beautiful and inspiring projects in the gallery week after week. For nearly the next two weeks, we will be playing with the following color combination: Orange, Yellow and Kraft/Brown:
In all honesty, I can't even begin to tell you how difficult this color combination was for me to create with!!! The color orange is at the VERY bottom of the totem pole of my favorite colors. I love to see the color orange in use on others projects but I seem to have a creative block when it comes to using it. Once I got over the feelings of impending doom and knew I had to just get over my fears, I created this layout featuring a photo of Meredith and Connor that was taken several years ago while we were on Spring Break vacation visiting Disney's Wild Animal Park in Orlando, Florida. That mural painted on the wall behind the sweet photo is a real work of art!
I pulled out a piece of patterned paper, applied a coat of gesso then using the Brick Wall Stencil and modeling paste, I added some texture and design.
I added a few flowers and chipboard pieces from my stash:
and for background color, I simply combined various colors of Distress Stains. When the ink was dry, I randomly stamped the text stamp from Collage Backgrounds:
For sketch inspiration, I joined along with the current Skissedilla challenge:

Remember The Moments...AMMCC5 51

Mona Pendleton | Thursday, August 8, 2013 @ 8:55 PM | , , , , , ,

Hi there! Hope you are all ready for the weekend! Connor and Meredith returned to school Monday and both are involved in various school activities so life is going to get a little busy around here!

It's time for an all new Mixed Media Color Challenge. Thanks so much to all who joined along with challenge #4 ~ there were so many beautiful projects in the gallery! For nearly the next two weeks, we will be playing with the following color combination: purple, blue and green
For this challenge, I created a layout featuring a photo of Meredith and I that was taken last year while on a trip to the San Diego Zoo :)
To create this layout, I layered lots of paints, various texture pastes, inks and die cuts. After creating the background using acrylic paints and the gelli arts printing plate, I added texture using the Brick Wall Stencil along with molding paste. I stamped three of the four clocks from Timeless on the coordinating dies using Time Pieces. The pretty little butterflies and title are courtesy of Scrap Matts

The pretty little chipboard butterflies and title are courtesy Scrap Around The World and Scrap Matts. LOVE! I embossed using silver embossing enamel.
I joined along with this month's Scrap Around The World ~ I was inspired by the cascading flowers in the photo as well as the sketch:
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit ~ I hope I have inspired you to mix things up! Please hop on over to A Mixed Media Color Challenge for COMPLETE details on how to join in the fun and for some awesome inspiration from Sue!

special Blessing...AMMCC 4 46

Mona Pendleton | Thursday, July 25, 2013 @ 8:55 PM | , , , , , ,

Hi there! It's been a crazy week for me. We have been in San Diego Monday - Thursday evening with Connor and Meredith touring colleges around So Cal. Early tomorrow (Friday) morning, Scott and I will be catching a flight to San Francisco to visit Jerry and April for the weekend :) I'm so excited! I can't even begin to tell you how much I miss our weekly lunch / dinner dates. We may need a vacation from our vacation!

It's time for an all new Mixed Media Color Challenge. Thanks so much to all who joined along with challenge #3 ~ there were so many beautiful projects in the gallery! For nearly the next two weeks, we will be playing with the following color combination: red, brown and neutral:
For this challenge, I altered a wooden heart that I bought long time ago from a local craft store in the clearance aisle. It cost $2 and I couldn't resist buying it because I knew I wanted to alter it at some point so here it is. I painted it with brown acrylic paint followed with a coat of crackle medium.
I added a label made using a Die-namics Designer Labels 4 STAX die with a sentiment from LJD Cheerful Blessings stamped on it. and a little banner made using Die-namics Jumbo Banner Day STAX
I tucked a lace and a Kraft cs bunting made using Die-namics Jumbo Banner Day STAX with polka dots stamped from Distressed Background Blocks under a cluster of paper flowers. I finished it with a resin cherub.
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit ~ I hope I have inspired you to mix things up! Please hop on over to A Mixed Media Color Challenge for COMPLETE details on how to join in the fun and for some awesome inspiration from Sue!
