I used to skate. And no, I wasn't the guy with the peerless Mark Gonzales board that quit after skateboarding was no longer considered "cool" in the early '90s. Two broken arms and a broken ankle later, I had to hang up my skateboard for good. But just as I was getting out of the sport, Activision released Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for the PlayStation. At the time, I considered it a godsend. I was finally able to bust an ollie melancholy down a set of ten stairs without having to risk turning my ankle for the hundredth time.
