Guest Designer - Rebecca Yahrling

We're back with another fun guest designer post hosted by the talented his week - Rebecca Yahrling (Flickr Gallery here). Wow! Wow! Wow! This week she's created not one, but four adorable gift containers for holiday giving. I'm thinking I need to make some of these up for the food gifts I'll be giving this year!

Here's Rebecca's instructions:
"I am honored once again this week to be your Guest Designer. And their store has so many products to help us in our crafty endeavors.
With the holidays fast approaching, I thought I would try something a little different. A decorated box! It will hold quite a bit so you can use it for many different things. I always make lots of Christmas cookies so that is what I will put in my boxes.

Start with a 12x12 piece of double sided decorative patterned paper (or you can also adhere two, one-sided papers together as I did with my snowman box). Score one side at 3" and 9" then rotate the paper and score at 1", 3 1/2", 6 1/2" and 9".  Cut down to the middle score lines on both sides of the lid and also at the bottom to the first score line (see photo).
Cut tabs off the top corner of sheet on both sides (also shown in photo); keep these for another small project I will show.

Tape the box together with a strong adhesive (I used scor-tape). See photo.
Now the real fun begins with decorating your box however you wish.

This is what I did for the snowman box: I added a small rectangle of hook & loop tape for my closure using tacky glue to secure. I then wrapped & glued (tacky glue) a silver metallic wire ribbon around the box, but adhered under the lid at the top and then just to the hook & loop tape under the lid (otherwise, your box won't open!). I then die cut my decorative pieces for the top; a flourish from white glitter paper, a white doily, a blue mini doily and a blue tag (twice for dimension & stability). I glued down the flourish & the large doily. I popped up the mini doily and then glued (tacky) a white plastic snowflake on top. I then stamped the sentiment in white on the tag (it says 'menu: milk & cookies'). I used silver thread to hang the tag through one of the holes on the larger doily.

On the Deer box, I adhered the blue ribbon, but left a long tail at each end so that I could tie a loose knot for closure. I die cut my pieces: a light blue majestic label and a frill oval in cream cs. I inked all the edges of both pieces with  hickory smoke and gathered twigs. I stamped the sentiment in black & clear embossed. I adhered the blue tag and then popped up the cream oval atop it. I then die cut two flourishes from a green cs and adhered them as shown. I glued three deep red roses as shown. I then inked a wood deer with gathered twigs and for the tail, I used a white gelly roll pen. I popped him up on the right to finish.

Now, remember the flaps I cut off at the beginning? No waste! You can adhere them together at the bottom flap (see photo). Then, holding the two sides together, punch a hole at the top, big enough to thread your ribbon through.

Decorate as you'd like. You can add a little treat or a gift to the inside with glue dots. I plan to make some kind of a brownie bar or maybe fudge, and will put one in a small plastic bag & adhere it with a couple of glue dots.

I hope you enjoyed these projects and are inspired to make your own any time of the year. They were fun to put together and I hope to make more. Good way to use up some paper you've been hoarding forever. lol  Until next time,
Crafty hugs, Becca xxoo"

Guest Designer - Lisa

We're back for our final guest design project by the talented Lisa of this Sweet Madness. It's been a joy to share her work with your this month, and today she has one last card to inspire us with. Here's what Lisa says about creating this fun card....

"Hi everyone!  I'm excited to share my last guest designer project with you!  I can't believe the month is nearly over and it's almost Halloween!

1) I cut and scored the Amethyst cardstock to an A6 card size.  I like to do A6 cards sometimes and then make them extra dimensional and they'll still fit in A7 envelopes.

2) I didn't have a big enough piece of the printed Witch paper to cover my card front so I centered it on my card and used scraps of the green glitter cardstock to frame it on the top and bottom.

3) I stamped the witch from the stamp set on Bristol cardstock with Archival Ink.  While it dried I die cut my tags and the word BOO from a green cardstock scrap.

4) I used the Zig markers to color the witch, but I didn't blend them out with a waterpen.  I think the markers blend well enough on their own.  I added a few accents with the Gelly Roll pen.

5) After fussy-cutting the witch, I assembled my card.  I popped the larger tag up with foam squares, then attached the witch with glue and Zots.  I added the smaller tag, glued the word Boo to it with the Tombo glue and then added the rhinestones."

Pumpkin Plaid

Have you been following our "October Plaid" posts all month? Each Monday I've shared a different version of plaid created with markers, a ruler, and some graph paper. Today I have a one-color plaid background to share with you.

To create this fun pumpkin plaid background I laid down a wide orange stripe followed by a thin orange stripe all the way across my card stock. I then turned the piece of paper 90 degrees and repeated the design.

Supplies used on this card include:

Here's a free pumpkin template for you to use on your autumn themed projects

Guest Designer -- Lisa

Hello Friends -- we're back for another Guest Designer Friday! As promised we have another one of Lisa's (This Sweet Madness) beautiful creations to share with you. Don't you just love this bright and happy card she put together to inspire us today? I do! Here's her instructions for creating this beauty:

1) I cut the Neenah cardstock to 5x7 and ran it through my Big Shot with the Great Almanzo folder.  I always cut my cardstock bigger than I want it before embossing because the texture does take up some of the size of the paper and then it allows me to trim off any flat edges I might get from my old machine.

2) I colored the embossed cardstock with the Distress Inks and then spritzed it with water using the Sprayer.  I like to let it dry naturally rather than using a heat gun, you get more color variation that way.

3) While it was drying, I cut several sets of the Tattered Florals with the Canson Mixed Media cardstock.  Leaving the flowers in the paper strip, I inked them with the Distress Oxide inks and then sprayed them with water.  I did roll a paper towel over them to help sop up the water and create texture, then let them air dry,

4) I didn't think the Kraft card base showed up enough, so I took the gold Sharpie and colored the borders of the card where it would show outside my trimmed embossed panel.

5) I like my die-cut words to be sticky so I adhered 1" Scor Tape to the back of some black cardstock scraps, then cut the "Hello" and "friend' words from the die set three times each.  Stacked them together and then thought the black was too harsh so I colored over it with the Gold Sharpie.

6) I layered the floral die cuts together with the Zots, then added rhinestones to the centers.

7) I used 1/4" Scor Tape to attach the embossed panel to my card, then used Zots to attach the flowers.  The word die cuts completed the card.

Product List:
Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Wild Honey, Fossilized Amber, Carved Pumpkin, Scattered Straw

Plaid Leaves

As promised I'm back with an "October Plaid" post. Today I'm sharing a fun fall plaid that has no white space in it. Instead of using it as a background, I die cut it into beautiful autumn leaves.

To create this background I:
  • laid down wide stripes in orange, burgundy, and yellow
  • turned my paper and added wide brown, green, and yellow stripes
  • added a few dark brown thin stripes as accents
Note: Using a ruler and graph paper helps to keep the lines straighter than trying to free-hand them

Supplies used on this card:
Fun tip: To achieve the look of  morning dew on your leaves: Stamp your versamark watermark ink pad on the leaf, add UTEE, lightly rub most of it off with your finger, and heat set.

I'd love to see your take on plaid, so stop by the current link party and showoff any creation that includes a product or two from one of the companies carried in the Cropstop store.

Guest Designer - Lisa

Time for another Guest Designer Friday! The entire month of October we have a "new" crafter that's never designed for Cropstop before --- Welcome Lisa of This Sweet Madness! Lisa went over and above this week by creating not one, but four beautiful matching cards!  Here's what she says about putting this lovely set together --------

"Hi everyone!  I'm Lisa from This Sweet Madness and I'm thrilled to be guest designing this month here at Crop Stop!  Huge thanks to Esther and Haylie-Jo for the opportunity! I like to make cards in sets so I have them at the ready for unexpected gift needs.  These cards were quick and easy to duplicate.

1) I cut 80lb white cardstock to 4" x 5.25 and ran them through my Big Shot with the Flint embossing folder.  I like to emboss two sheets at once, I think you get a deeper impression that way.
2) Using the ink blending tool, I applied Distress Ink to each embossed panel of cardstock.  I did a yellows family (Wild Honey, Scattered Straw & Mustard Seed), a reds (Barn Door, Fired Brick, Worn Lipstick), one in greens (Peeled Paint, Crushed Olive, Forest Moss) and one in blues (Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Faded Jeans).  I like to run my lightest ink color back over the whole panel when I'm done to blend the colors better.
3) While the ink dried, I cut the smaller butterfly from the Wings of Hope die set with scraps of cardstock.  I cut two of each color, adhering them together using Mini Zots in just the center of the butterfly.  I cut the foam squares in half and put them under the wings to create the dimension.
4) After applying Scor Tape sheets to the back of silver and gold shimmer cardstock scraps, I cut the word "beautiful" from the TH Friendship Words die set, twice from each color.

 5) I eyeballed cutting my ribbon to around 5. 5" long and applied 1/4" Scor Tape to the back. I don't really like to measure so I just eyeballed where to tape the ribbon on my embossed cardstock panels. I wrapped the edges around, then adhered the panels to white A2 cards with 1/2" Scor Tape. One thing I do alwasy do is use the Scotch ATG all across the center of embossed cardstock panels. That way it all sticks down instead of poofing up on the card where the embossing makes it uneven.
6) I glued the butterflies to teh card with teh Matte Medium glue. I like it for die cuts because it doesn't show when it dries, even on brighter colors like the red.
7) Using the Scor Tape sheets made adhering the thin Beautiful word die cuts really easy. I added a dot over the "I" with a rhinestone and Matte Medium.
8) Lastly I added rhinestones to the bodies and antennae of the butterflies with Mini Zots and Matte Medium.
Thanks so much for spending this time with me!! Don't forget to play along in the latest CropStop linky party! Laters!"

Guest Designer - Darlene Pavlick

It's guest designer Friday again, and today we have a super cute card created by the talented Darlene Pavlick of Dar's Crafty Creations! Oh my, I just love the adorable little scene she's created with Memory Box Dies!!  Darlene shares how she created this card....

"The card I have created to share with you today can be used for a variety of occasions or just as a note card.  The 'deer' little scene I've created makes me smile ... I hope it makes you smile too!

It all started with the background utilizing inks and embossing.

For the embossing,  I used a Darice 'Cloudy Sky' embossing folder and did a little outlining with a white Gelly Roll pen to help add even more dimension to my clouds.

While the Memory Box 'Deer in the Trees' #99275 die cut was still in the paper, I did my coloring using Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers.

Isn't this new Memory Box 'Woodland Bridge Frame' (#94039) awesome?  I love the bridge concept and I turned the little deer into a 'fawn' by putting the spots on his rump!  More coloring done with the same Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and inks.

I wanted to create dimension in the scene so I've cut out 3 additional 'Deer in the Trees' die cuts and glued them all together with the colored one on top.

My sentiment is by Sue Wilson but you could use any number of stamp or die sentiments."

Guest Designer - Rebecca Yahrling

Today we have a mixed media canvas created by our talented guest designer, Rebecca Yahrling (see her Flickr gallery here). Not only did Rebecca create something unique and beautiful to share with us today, but she also included a mini tutorial (with pictures!!) of how she put this together.  So without further ado -- here's what Rebecca says:

"I am thrilled and honored to once again be a guest designer at Crop Stop.

This project was totally inspired by Shari Carroll at Simon Says Stamp. As soon as I saw her monogram project, I knew I wanted to do something similar for my new craft room. I have already bought several 'R's to decorate and this canvas will be center stage. For me, this was a very intimidating project as I haven't done very much mixed media. But I want to! I didn't have any of the supplies that Shari used and just used what I already have. It really was fun to make and I'm happy with how it turned out.  Here's what I did:

I started by brushing white gesso on my canvas and set aside to dry.  I cut a 2"x7" strip of white textured paper and decoupaged it onto the top portion of the canvas. I then stamped a design on white tissue paper, using several stamp sets with black dye ink, keeping in mind my canvas size of 5x7.  I decoupaged this below the white textured paper.  The black ink bled a bit and I freaked out at this point, but continued anyway. lol (There are no mistakes in crafting, right?!)

I traced an "R" onto the back side of the corrugated cardboard, reversed; cut out with scissors. I cut out the hole with an Exacto knife. My darling hubby was kind enough to cut a piece of Tim Holtz idea-ology ruler to 4 1/8" for me. I glued (Aleene's) the ruler and the "R" onto the canvas where the two papers met. I then added Aleene's tacky glue in three places and added a handmade mix of purple seed beads and let dry. I added plum metallic paint and white gesso to the "R"; let dry. With HS teal metallic paste, I painted the two wood leaves (I didn't have any aqua paint); let dry.

Using a paintbrush dipped into dylusions crushed grape ink spray, I dabbed lines down the canvas as shown, also adding water to make it run and dabbing off the excess with a paper towel. I heat set to dry, then did the same with the vibrant turquoise. Once dry, I outlined the "R" with a black sharpie. I didn't like it! To tone it down, I added white gesso over the whole canvas, in sections, wiping away (gently) as I went along, until it looked like I wanted.
I did some ink splatters on the canvas and wood leaves with Tattered Angels gold glimmer mist. Once dry, I added all my pieces in a design I was happy with using tacky glue. And it was done!
(I think it needs to be sealed, so I will have to go buy some matte sealer. Not that I need an excuse to go to the craft store! lol).
I hope my canvas inspires you to try mixed media.
