Woodland Table Centerpieces

My best friend Julie, is almost due to have her baby. I was more than happy to help in the preparations of her baby shower. Since her nursery is going to be a woodland theme I thought it would be appropriate to incorporate that into the decorations of the shower. I created the favors, centerpieces, a banner, wishing tree and a few other surprises I will share with you in my next few posts. Enjoy!
I created the birdhouses from plain birdhouses I found at my local craft stores. Each birdhouse was uniquely decorated. I used my Ranger paint dabbers to paint the houses. Each house was decorated with it's own combination of decorative papers. Most got additional details added with paint, die cuts, embellishments, etc. I then used a strong epoxy to attach them to a candlestick I painted to match.
The woodland animals I cut from the Cricut cartridge Give A Hoot. Our area was hit hard with storms and I was able to use some fallen trees for the pedestals for my creations. My wonderful Dad help me cut the wood into the sizes that I wanted and then I used some heavy adhesive to attach the top to the bottom. A few pine cones and other nature elements added to the centerpiece.
Because I wanted the centerpieces to look great no matter where you were sitting at the table I added mason jars filled with flowers and greens. Not just ordinary mason jars though, I painted these with the delicious colors from my Ranger Paint Dabbers. I simply poured a little into the jar added a little water and used a brush to coat the sides and bottom. The outside of the jars remained the beautiful shiny glass but showed the gorgeous color that coordinated with the decor. Lovely!
I will be selling the bird houses along with many of my other creations at my next show

Addie & Jack, Adopted with Love

I wanted to introduce you to our two newest family members, Addie and Jack. After losing our 2 cats of 14 years so suddenly I thought I could never get another cat. But how wrong I was. After letting my heart heal for a month I found I missed the antics and snuggles that kitties bring into our lives. My husband and I cancelled a few of our trips that we had planned for this summer and on Memorial day weekend adopted lil' Jack and his sister Addie. At 7 1/2 weeks old they were full of energy and into everything. We had forgotten how much energy and entertainment little kittens are. They are never going to replace Maui & Indy in our hearts, my heart is big enough for them all.
Jack and Addie are the most lovable brother and sister ever. Addie is way more outgoing and has been much easier to socialize than Jack. Even though neither of the kitties could stand to be held when we first got them, after a lot of work, Addie now loves to be held and cuddled. When we get home she is the first to run down and greet us. Jack is more of a princess (even though he is the boy) LOL. He cries after the vet visits, if he can't find his sister he freaks out, he's timid and can't stand being held. He is the sweetest, most loveable kitty with us and and shows how affectionate he is by constantly taking care of his sister Addie. When they are napping he always has a arm wrapped around her and loves to groom her. It is just too sweet. They both just adores my Grandson Kyler. They play with each others toys, too cute. Addie has already decided to be my new assistant as you can see in my Create your Perfect Palette Video.
Sweet Lil' Addie! What a cutie!
Jack knows how to keep me from getting my work done. LOL
Just drape himself across the computer. Can't see the screen & can't type, MUST rub!
If anyone has tips on photographing a black cat
I am open to any and all tips!!!
RIP Maui & Indy -the best cats ever!

I am truly heart broken. Just a few weeks ago I shared with you our loss of our wonderful 14 year old cat Maui. We lost him to cancer just a couple of weeks after diagnosis. It was a heartbreaking and devastating ordeal for all of us. I know that we were grieving the loss of Maui but last week we found out how much it took a toll on Indy our other cat. The day I left for Ranger U Indy passed away from sudden respiratory and kidney failure. I found out later that stress (like the loss of Maui) can trigger it and cause death. We had NO idea that anything was wrong with her. She like my husband and I were all saddened my Maui's passing and she was much more clingy in the week since he was gone but nothing signaled anything medically wrong. That morning my husband had dropped me at the airport and went to work as usual, after work he came home to spend time with her but when he called out for her she gave a cry that he knew something was wrong. He found her in distress and rushed her immediately to our vet. After 2 hours of tests, oxygen, and IVs they said there was nothing they could further do and sent him to another Dr. Tim drove as fast as he could the 20 min. drive but Indy passed in Tim's arms just moments from reaching the Dr office. Tim had them try to resesitate her but it was unsuccessful. We are beside ourselves with the loss of not 1 but both of our cats within 2 weeks. Since I was in New Jersey for Ranger U I was not there and my husband didn't at first want to tell me (I knew something was up the first day I talked to him, I could hear it in his voice). When he did tell me I went immediately to disbeleif and that is where I have stayed since. I am still waiting for her to come strutting into the room and jump on my lap, I will find myself grabbing for a can of catfood in the morning, I want to hear the jingle of her collar.
We got Maui 14 years ago, shortly after we got married. He was a stray that someone found. When we got him he was covered in fleas and was so tiny. The picture below is of his first bath.
Maui just grew...and grew...
and GREW!!!
to a whopping 20 lbs. The vet said he was health and not overeating.
He was just Maui and was a BIG cat.
Indy came along shortly after we got Maui. You could say she adopted us. She was a stray in our neighborhood. A very mean stray, I fed her for a long time but could never get to close (she would hiss and growl). Then one day when we were getting our house painted the painters tossed her in our house thinking she was ours. We took her to the vet and reported her to the police to see if anyone was missing her but no one claimed her. At the vet we got her a check up, all her shots and had a bullet removed that was lodged in her hip and then brought her home to begin the lengthy task of socializing her. Once she realized she could trust us and she was safe she was glued to our side all day and night. She was our little princess and her and Maui became best buds.
Maui and Indy loved hanging out together especially checking out the wildlife
around our house and taking LONG naps together.
Indy was often my assistant as she was always by my side, it didn't matter what I was doing she was trying to help. We will permantly have an Indy paw print on our table in the game room because she was trying to "help" me when I was stamping with archival ink and walked across the ink pad. At the time I tryed to get the print off but Now I'm glad she did it.
I also found out early on that Indy loved to be the center of attention and loved to model anything. If you look at pictures that she wearing something she sits up proud and is like "look at me!" She was quite the character! She somehow knew when I was taking pictures to look all cute, Maui usually closed his eyes for the camera and just wanted his belly rubbed.
Indy loved looking at live through her favorite rose color glasses
We didn't always have her dressed up.
I'm not like a crazy cat lady or anything but at Christmas we would break out a Christmas outfit because Indy was sure to be there in the middle of helping decorate the house.
Indy loved just about everyone but Maui was a bit more picky on who he let into his circle of friends so we were just tickled that every morning that Kyler came over Maui would romp downstairs to say goodmorning to baby Kyler. Last week I could tell that Kyler was looking around for the cats it broke my heart that they won't be greeting him anymore.
I am hoping by journaling this it will help me begin to deal with the loss of Indy and Maui. My husband and I have discussed it and we both agree that we do not want another cat at this time. No cat or kitten could compare to Maui or Indy and it just would not be fair to them or to use to try to fill the hole in our hearts with something that isn't them. They were more than just pets, they were family. They will be truly missed!

This weeks Grungy Monday hosted by Linda at Studio L3 is Wearable Art with Tim Holtz products. And everybody knows how I love everything Tim! I must have a knack for them as my pocketwatches that I bring to shows have been featured in the Daily Hearld newspaper. Most I don't share online but I thought I would share a few of them with you today.
One of my favorites.
Most housewifes can relate to this one when they need to escape reality once in a while.

Lots of journals, sticky note holders, pocket watch pendants, wine charms, key chains, pregnancy journals, diaper creations, decorative pillows, etc. This is the first store that I have been featured at so I am very excited!!! The Blue House is a gift shop and gallery including fair trade, local artists, equestrian items, and home decor. If you are in the area The Blue House is in downtown Barrington, IL. near the train station. Stop on in and say hi!
Making choosing a color EASY!

I went out and got the cheapest set of fake nails I could find. I then used each of my nail polishes and painted 2 nails the same color. On the back of one of them I wrote with thin permanent marker the brand of polish. This way I could quickly find which polish I was looking for.
When they were dry I punched a hole in all the nails towards the tip not the base. For that I use the Tim Holtz Drill Punch. It drills a tiny hole in just about anything (even metal), I use it to make charms for my projects all the time. For this it was perfect for attaching the nail to the bottle of polish.
I had the second set of nails as a complete reference with names of the brands on them to find just the right shade without having to rifle through all my bottles of polish!

This weekend I had a show at the DuPage Expo. Since I just started doing shows in October of last year I am still very much of a newbie.
I needed some new displays for this show so I created one out of an old lamp I found at the Goodwill for $2.
I was looking for one with a strong wire shade and a decorative bottom, also the shade needed to be supported by a harp (the metal thingy instead of clamped on the light bulb).
I first stripped the shade of all it's stained fabric. No need for that. I sanded down where they had glued it to the metal frame.
I Then whipped out my Claudine Hellmuth Studio Black Gesso Paint. In ONE coat I covered the base, the metal shade, and the harp! Can you believe it only took ONE COAT! Love this stuff.
And I will let you in on a little secret. The black gesso can double as chalk board paint :)
How cool is that!!!
Once dried I had the perfect place to clip some of my items on. I love it! I loved it so much the hardest part was cutting the cord on it. I almost wanted to keep it as a lamp and not a display piece.
I also made the boxes in this last photo the same way except I used cardboard boxes from my Project Life and painted them black. When it was dry I created a thin wash using Espresso Paint Dabbers and water. I adorned the fronts with Tim Holtz Ornate Plates

Matt,my computer genius son, came over last night to lend me a hand updating my blog page. My first thing on my list was to move the comment button to the bottom of each post. I don't know why it was originally at the top. I have had several readers email me confusing on where to leave comments or couldn't find the comment button. We have made it simple to find at the bottom of each post, you Are of course welcome to email me anytime also. I love hearing from you.
Also added was a end of post break line among some other things that were to techie for me. Lol hopefully you all will find it running smoothly. Don't ask me any programming questions, I would love to help but unfortunately I am lost when it comes to all of that. Enjoy the new look!

All Aboard! We had a great time on our Tim Holz Cruise. My husband Tim and I met a lot of great new friends. We also loved all of Tim's great classes, we made some FANTASTIC projects!
We started out the cruise with a Welcome Reception and met Tim's great team! All the members from the All Things Tim group got together for a picture with Tim.
Day 2 was spent at Coco Cay, Bahamas.
Day 3 we were all geared up for class!!! We loved hanging out with Linda and her mom, Pat. What great friends! Tim and I loved sharing a dinner table with them too.
Our first project was an altered coffee thermos
Tim really got into the projects and after the first few minutes he realized that he too could do this and got into the project of the day.
Here is our finished coffee mugs, Tim's is on the left and mine is on the right. :)
I have way, WAY more to share... so keep tuned for more!
