Stash Busting with Jane - chipboard

For some reason I went through a phase where I bought loads of chipboard shapes then maybe used one or two pieces from a collection and the rest went in a drawer. So time to get that drawer out and use up some of that chipboard! Here it is (ok - well, some of it!!)

I decided that for strength I would construct my LO on a 12 x 12 canvas rather than card - but you could easily just use card - or maybe a larger sheet of chipboard if you have one. I started by sifting through and finding a frame for my photo then picking out some of the bits of chipboard I really liked and arranging and re-arranging until I had a composition I was happy with...

As you can see I ended up with some pieces which were coloured - but my intention was always to paint the chipboard and canvas so I knew this wouldn't matter. I started by giving the whole thing a couple of coats of white gesso...

Once this had dried I chose a colour from my photo - the turquoise colour of my cat's eye's and decided to focus on this colour for painting the canvas. I concentrated on the areas with chipboard - dry brushing the edges. I used a couple of different shades to try and give a bit of interest...

To give more dimension and some sparkle I sprayed the canvas with turquoise cosmic shimmer spray, then after drying I added gems and then used silver/white glitter glue on top of the chipboard pieces. I finished by adding some white roses and my photo...

Those who know me will know that this is not my my usual scrapping style but I'm quite pleased with how it turned out - If you have a go at your own mixed media page using your left over bits of chipboard, I'd love to see the result.

Now, what to do with the rest of that drawer of chipboard...

Sketch Prompt with Jane

I love using a sketch as a starting point - it just takes some of the Creative heavy lifting out of the equation - and then your creative juices can go to town instead on how you interpret the sketch and the ways you might adapt it to suit your photos or papers.

In this page - I am staying true to my sketch except that I used a shaped page instead of a square one. (The black background is my kitchen worktop!!)

Here's the sketch - enjoy making it your own...

Around the World in 80 Days - Class 5 - Boat to India with Jane

All aboard! We're leaving Madagascar and heading for one of my favourite destinations in the world - India. But as we are constantly reminded - it's about the journey, not the destination so this class is about the sea and boats rather than India!

If you got a kit you will be able to replicate my book with its galleon front cover. If not, you can take the idea of making a book front cover with an aperture and fill it with die cuts (or hand cut designs) to make a scene. Or let it inspire you to create flowers and ribbons from scraps of fabric. The book also features pages with pockets and tags and some which are full size photos.

Whatever inspiration you take from this I hope you enjoy the class, instructions for which can be found on the Created By ATDML Facebook Page.

We are almost halfway in our round the world trip - next we will be leaving India and heading for Australia - join us at 2pm for another challenge!

Class 5 with Jane

Good morning everyone and welcome to another day of scrapping fun.
I have been playing with some very tropical Graphic 45 papers...

There was so much in this lovely kit that I was able to make three layouts and still have paper left over. I love fussy cutting and it features in my first layout, however if you are not a fan, fear not as there is no fussy cutting in either of the other two pagesThree quite different Layouts but all with a tropical theme – great for scrapping those beach photos – or maybe back garden lockdown photos! I tried to keep to the shapes theme too -so my first page is a circle, then we have hexagons in the next Layout and rectangles in the last. If you didn't get a kit, layouts 2 and 3 easily lend themselves to any other papers you may have in your stash!

I hope you enjoy playing along and we will see you at 11am for the next challenge.

Class 7 - Buster the Dog

I hope you are enjoying the CyberCrop so far and enjoying playing along with the toys!
Buster is Andy and Molly’s beloved pet dog who appears at the end of the first movie. Buster the dog loves playing with the toys in the films and these layouts are pages that you will want to play with as they each have an interactive element – (not to mention the fact that I have used pictures of my dog ‘Betty’ in these pages!)

Below are the two pages I have created but if you want to see the interactive element of each you will need to go to the instructions which are available here.

Be sure to share your creations to our gallery on Facebook and tag us with #atdml elsewhere on social media.

Join us again at 3pm for another challenge inspired by Gabby Gabby then join Debbie at 4pm for Class 8 'Woody'

Class 13 with Jane - The Queen

So we've reached class 13 - (good job 13 is my lucky number -well it's the date of my birthday)!  I was certainly lucky to be invited to a Royal garden party at Buckingham Palace this year so my next class is in honour of Her Majesty. This is a really simple book and I love the colour combination - a peachy pink the same colour as The Queen's dress, navy blues the same colour as my outfit and light blue the same colour as Kate's dress. I hope you are just as lucky with your photos!

Here's the front cover...

And some sneak peeks inside the book...

Instructions for the book can be found here...

I hope you will come back at 10am to join Debbie for class 14! Have fun!

Class 6 with Jane - Rear Window

The title for this should have been ‘Windows on the World’ except that I don’t think that is a film!! But the Hitchcock classic Rear Window is one of my favourites, and since this class features little windows that open...

I wanted to use the Piggy Tales Windows as a way of giving glimpses of what is inside a folded page. The instructions show how the book structure is made but then how you decorate it is up to you - below I have shown each page in my book to give you ideas. Each page is a double spread which opens up - so the first picture shows it closed then the next picture shows the spread opened up.
First here's the front cover...

Then the pages - one by one (there are lots!)

Instructions for this class can be found here...

Come back at 12:00 for Tricia's first class - enjoy!

Cyber Crop Challenge 1 - Kaiser Chiefs: Ruby

Challenge time for you, and for many I know this is one of your favourite parts of our cyber and virtual crops.  We will be sticking with the music theme for each of these and your challenges will be inspired by songs, and illustrated by one of the design team.

So what song inspired challenge do we have in store for you to start?

CHALLENGE #1 Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby

Your first challenge is to use red and/or red rhinestones on your page.

This challenge has been illustrated by Jane below.

We'd love to see you share your challenge layouts with us and have created a challenge layout gallery on Facebook which you can find HERE. Or select the photos tab just under the banner of the ATDML # Create Facebook page and then select the albums tab and finally "add photo".

Your next class is at 8pm and we will be sticking with Jane and her first class of the weekend.

March 2016 Virtual Crop - Class 2 with Jane

Hello everyone...I'm back with another Graphic 45 project and if you got the By the Sea kit you can copy my book exactly...or do your own twist on it. But even if you're playing along with your own papers you can make a version of this book because it's more about the construction rather than the papers really. This was inspired by the folio albums now available from Tim Holtz - but they are quite pricey so I thought - I'll make my own version!
The finished book (minus photos) looks like this...

But I think you might get a better impression of the book by seeing it in action so here's a quick video of it...

Instructions can be found  HERE, download for free and off you go!.

Katherine is up next at 2pm with your third class of the day. Happy crafting!

DT Round Up of 2015

Hello, Hello lovely people.  As it is the last day of 2015 I thought I would show you a quick sample of some of the gorgeous projects that the ATDML DT have produced over the year.  I think you will agree that we are a very diverse team with strengths in a variety of areas and mediums.  Ann's pages are usually graphic and clean, in contrast to Katherine's which are creative and painty.  I go for the pile it on and pile it high style and Denise and Jane like a lot of fussy cutting.  Mel's style is also quite graphic but she tends to fill her pages a little more than Ann does.

You will see that I have chosen two projects for each month except September as there were so many gorgeous projects that I couldn't limit myself to just two.

I am embarrassed by how many of my projects are in this post but sometimes, although the other DT members have made pages for the gallery, life gets in the way and don't get round to uploading them each month!

So without further ado here are my 2015 picks and I do not apologise for this being a photo heavy post - feast your eyes!
