Little Miss Muffet: Patriotic Horse

Happy Thursday!

We have a new challenge at Little Miss Muffet today - Loads of Layers.  I used an image from the Snugly Giftables collection called Patriotic Horse.  I was waiting until a bit before July 4th to use this one, so this seemed like the perfect time.  This collection has lots of holiday images and is offered as a set for a reduced price.
The designer paper is Simple Stories "Summer Fresh"; it has a great color palette. The chevron pattern is part of one of the patterned papers in this paper pack.  {The majority of the patterns in the chevron are full sheets, so you could technically make this a patchwork pattern like this.}  I cut it out and layered it on red cardstock and then on the Navy base card.

My loads of layers is mostly in the image.  I printed the image twice and layered it to create some depth.  The flag in on the base layer.  It is blank so you can create your own flag.  I created an altered American flag.  I just drew it in with pencil first and then colored it in with Copic markers.  The star I cut out of the candle on the base image since I would be covering it.

The candles, cowboy hat and flag pole are on the next layer, although all pieced on the base image separately.  The third and last layer is the horse, which I popped.

So, I have 3 layers on the base card {not counting the ribbon and button - do they count?} and 3 more layers on the image.

Red Rubber Designs: Liberty

I have one more May release for you before the June release this Thursday.  This is Liberty, one of my favorites.  The background is Ancient Map.  I've had these images for a long time and never thought to put them together. So happy both images are available again at Red Rubber Designs.

Lady liberty is stamped on Kraft cardstock with embossing ink and embossed in black.  I painted the image with green metallic paint.  The map is stamped with memento black ink on kraft so I could add some color with Copic Markers.  Copic Colors: B41, YG13, YG21.
The outer edges of the images were distressed with ink (raw sienna, cognac, burnt umber) and a stipple brush.

RRD: Red, White and Blue

Happy Memorial Day!

This week at Red Rubber Designs the theme is Red, White and Blue.  This is "America I Love".  I love this image, perfect for Memorial Day or 4th of July, which will be here before we know it.
The image was colored with Copic markers, then aged with Cognac and Burnt Umber inks around the edges.

I create a flag to match the sails with 2 embossing folders, stars and stripes. I went over the blue stars with embossing ink to give more definition.  I used R46 Copic marker to go over the embossed stripes to create the red and white stripe.  I stitched with white thread around the perimeter and down the seam between the stars and stripes. I used a stipple brush and palette inks to knock down the white a bit.

Red Rubber Designs: Patriotic

This weeks theme at Red Rubber Designs is "Patriotic", so I chose the new release "United We Stand".  This is a great set and I had Memorial Day in mind when making this card.

It is a pretty simple card.  The stars are dry embossed on the Red, Kraft and Navy cardstock.  Then I brushed an embossing pad over the cardstock to accent the embossing.  If you have an embossing ink pad with sparkle in it that would be a great look too.
The image was stamped with Burnt Umber Palette ink.  I used a stipple brush and Raw Sienna and Cognac ink to give a bit of a vintage or old photograph look.  I stamped the sentiment on some Kraft cardstock and cut the ends like a banner with my Kai 4" scissors.  Then, stippled the banner with the 3 inks and attached it with pop dots of varying thicknesses.
