{TAC} Post 3: New Creation

Today I'm featuring a project: a covered composition notebook. I have made several of these over the past couple months and they all turned out different.
I thought this would be a great notebook for bible study, a prayer journal, any purpose really. It has a matching pen and bookmark. I used Maggie SWIC, cardstock and ribbon for this project. The stamp set is TAC New Creation.
I found Pentel brand pens at WalMart. The great thing about these pens is the end of the pen twists off, so patterned paper can be inserted in the barrel. LOVE that.

I covered the front and back covers of the notebook with Maggie light purple cardstock. It was cut to 8" x 12", then I ran it thru my Xyron machine to make it a huge sticker. The inner liner piece is also from Maggie, cut to 9-1/2" x 6-3/4", then ran thru the Xyron machine.
I lined up the cardstock with the edge of the black binding on the notebook for both the front and back. There was about 1" of cardstock hanging over on the 3 sides.

I cut the corner out of the cardstock creating 3 tabs.
Folded the tabs over.

I didn't worry about the rounded corner on the notebook, I made it square and bent over the point, like a hard cover book.
The front cover was straight forward, just added the patterned liner piece on the inside to finish it. The back cover, however, I taped down the ends of the ribbon bookmark and loops (front and back) for the pen first, then added my inner liner.
I stamped the image using Mementos Tuxedo Black ink on Ivory cardstock. I colored it with Copic markers. Before I started, I tested my colors on a scrap piece of ivory paper - YR15, YR21, YR23, YR24, V20, V25, RV63, RV66, RV69, YG93, YG97, YG99.

I added some pastel blue chalk as a background. I went over the whole image, which does give the colored areas a cloudy look. The great thing about chalk is that it is erasable. I did go over the colored areas with an eraser so the colors would be more vibrant. I distressed the image around the edges with Cognac palette ink, then added some Burnt Umber palette ink. This is my favorite distressing/aging technique.

The image is matted with Maggie dark purple, green cardstock.  I added ribbon and a bow (Maggie). The image is attached to the front cover with pop dots.

Supplies -- Stamps: TAC New Creation, Papers: Maggie SWIC and Cardstock, Kraft and Brown Cardstock, Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Cognac Palette, Burnt Umber Palette, Pastel Chalks, Copic Markers.

Here are a couple other versions:

TAC God So Loved and TAC Winchester SWIC
Copic on Kraft cardstock: YR15, YR21, YR23, YR24, E55, E57, E59, V17, V25

Check out what the other chicks are up to today...

DDH6 Challenge: Anything BUT a Card ~ Week 2

Happy Monday,

More "Anything But a Card" ideas this week.  Our hostess on the DDH blog is Stephanie.

This week, I made a note pad.  The covers are actually cereal boxes that I cut to size and covered with TAC More Mimi cardstock.

The inside pages are a 3x5" white paper pad I found at OfficeMax in a multi-pack.  The whole thing was punched and bound using the Bind-It-All binding system.  I added a flower to the front from the DDH set Spring Sprigs and Mimi coordinating ribbon to the wire.

Supplies -- DDH Spring Sprigs,  TAC More Mimi SWIC, Copics (RV10, RV14, RV19, YG03, YG63, E35), 2.5" scallop oval punch, 2"oval punch.

We would love it if you played along! This challenge is open until 6pm (CST) on Sunday, May 29th. Visit DDH and add a link to your creation to our card gallery and you will have a chance to win a FREE DDH Digi!

We would love to see your "Anything BUT a Card" using a DDH Digi. If you do use a DDH Digi you will be entered in a second drawing! Won't you join us?!?

DDH6 Challenge: Anything BUT a Card ~ Week 1

Happy Monday!

Ready for a new DDH Challenge?  Our hostess for the next 2 weeks is Stephanie and our challenge is "Anything BUT a Card".  I covered a chipboard clipboard with TAC papers and then added some embellishments.
Supplies -- DDH Beautiful Butterflies, TAC Juliette SWIC, Copics, Chipboard clipboard, Sanding block.

I used Beautiful Butterflies today.  The body of the butterfly is colored with Copics and the wings are paper pieced.  There is a beautiful paper in the Juliette Collection with just a few flowers and the wings are part of one of the flowers.  I sanded around the edges of the clipboard to give a distressed look.

There will be a second post next Monday, May 23rd, on the DDH blog with more Anything BUT a Card ideas.  I will be posting another card idea next Monday.

Project - Hanging Calendar

This is an easy project for a FUNshop, open house or if you are making items to sell at a craft fair. I created this hanging calendar for a craft fair...only had this one left.  It is sure to brighten up an office.

The DCWV Brights Chipboard Stack is already covered with textured cardstock - doesn't get much easier than that!  You can distress it - I did not on this one.  I used a large glue dot to secure the back of the clip, so it doubles as a mini clipboard for notes and dates to remember during the month.

I used a Crop-a-dile to punch the holes and crimp the eyelets in the corners of the chipboard. The white wire is craft wire which you can find in the floral department of your local craft store. I twisted it around a pencil to make the loops. I made some with beads on the wire between the loops [note to self those were the first to sell at the craft fair].

At each end, I twisted the wire around the shaft of a very small phillips screw driver. Don't forget to turn in the sharp end in or bend it over on itself.

Thanks for stopping by...

Abundant Blessings
