Manly Monday Joe in 3rd Grade in Germany Layout

Sorry I’m late. I was working on Easter cards, which you will see the rest of this week.

I also want to make a disclaimer. I’ve been editing this post for over an hour. There may be poor wording and punctuation. I tried. Lol

Here we go!

I have an old layout of my FIL as a child in Obervac, Yugoslavia where he was born and lived until 1953 at which time he and his parents came to America. They settled down and made roots in Detroit, MI where my FIL's parents lived until his father’s death.

My MIL was born and raised in East Detroit, MI. She met and dated my FIL in high school. He was two grades ahead of her. A few years after the two were married in 1961 they moved to Grand Rapids, MI for a job opportunity for him with the IRS.

The "May 1949" stamps are by Close to my Heart

The arrow sticker pointing out my FIL is by Becky Higgins

The die- cuts are by Cricut (for the 3rd) and Quickutz (word grade)

The patterned papers are by K and I Memories, Die Cuts with a View, and Colorbok

I’m entering this layout into not a card challenge at

The Male Room

Next, is the opposite side of this layout is a pocket page with some information about the family.

If you look at the bottom right pocket, you will see the photo of Joe and Opa with words next them. Those were the words written on the back picture.

So what I did to preserve this part of the family’s story is, I scanned the  backside of the photo and then printed it on photo paper to place next to the photo. Problem is, I’m not sure how to tell people looking at the scrapbook what that is.

I’m open for suggestions. I started doing this early on with my MIL’s photos because honestly having old photos that are labeled are hard to come by.

The problem with my FIL's pictures, many of them are written in German.

You know what, Oh well. I think it's pretty cool and I hope the next generation will too. (And maybe learn German. Lol)

Here are the two layouts side by side. They sort of match each other. To me sort of is close enough.

I will now share with you my own personal quote:

"It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be done"
-Cindy Groh

Christmas Penguin Present Card

I sent in cards to the Just Cards magazine to be published and was surprised when my package was "Return to sender". I searched online and their website is up but nothing is available to purchase. I read, accuracy is unknown, the company came in and informed it's employees that they no longer had a job because they were no longer going to be publishing magazines. Bummer.
Small tidbit on sending in cards-When I sent my cards in I would always include a return address envelope and postage so I could get my card back. If you don't do so, your card is not returned to you. I didn't know what they did with them and hated to think my cards would be thrown away. So regardless that it was a hassle and more expense to get the cards returned I still did it. My point? They sent me every card that had previously been sent in and not yet been published. They didn't have to do that. It was very nice of them to respect my wishes to have my cards returned to me.
Thank you Just Cards magazine and RIP.
My card descriptions were typed up to read as directions in a magazine. To save on time, I copied and pasted those instructions into my blog posts and have my fingers crossed that the formats will work well together.

Penguin Present
Start by making a green card base 4 ¼  x 5 ¼ with Recollections cardstock
Stamp a penguin by JustRite Stamps (Christmas Joy Set)
by coloring the layers with Smooch Inks (Colorbox).
Then color in the rest of the Penguin and die cut out using a Spellbinders oval die.
Die cut a rectangle with rounded ends out of green cardstock by Coredinations.
Cut a red cardstock background 2 ¾ x 3 ½  and wrap a piece of green with
red polka dots (May Arts) to the center and around to the back.
Trim down a piece of iridescent white paper (K and i) to 4 x 5 and wrap the same
ribbon down the center.
Adhere the penguin layers to the white paper and then to green card base.

I matted a piece of K and i Memories patterned paper behind the background image. The sentiment label is a Spellbinders die that I cut and then embossed with my Cuttlebug. I stamped the sentiment with white pigment ink (SU) and set with eyelets by Eyelet Outlet.

A Wonderful Adventure

Welcome back to Flashback Friday for Sassy Studio Designs. We are still in our steampunk month of images which as you may know from visiting my blog, steampunk isn't my cup of tea. But I am trying and that's the best I can do.

This week I printed the image out onto Ranger watercolor paper. I colored the images in with Peerless watercolors and distress ink. I also mixed the water with perfect pearls so my image would sparkle. The purple background paper is unknown however the black paper and glitter paper are both by Die Cuts with a View and the purple border paper and the border die are both by Tim Holtz. The cog brad is by Eyelet Outlet and the cog die cut is by Spellbinders. The sentiment stamp is by K and i Memories. I stamped it with Versa Mark ink and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder by Stamp N Plus.

Rapunzal from Tangled Sassy Studio image card

So you are never going to believe this one, I get to be the GDT for Sassy Studio Designs for the month of December too. How awesome is that. I better get to coloring. :).

So for today's card I used the Rapunzel Sassy image and I printed her out onto Ranger's watercolor paper. I colored her in with distress markers and a water pen both by Ranger and then die cut her out with a Spellbinders die. My bling part of the card are the circles behind that image which happen to be glitter paper by The Paper Studio. I cut the circles using my Creative Memories Cutting System and then I cut the circle in half so it would spread across the back of the die cut. The hearts and pennant are die by a Lawn Fawn and the paper is by Recollections. The sentiment stamp is by K and i Memories in Hero Arts black ink. The pink paper is dry embossed but it's hard to see in the photo. Both pink and purple papers are by Recollections and the ribbon is unknown.

Stretch Your Stamps 2 Day 4 Kristina

I have another Stretch Your Stamps 2 card using a technique from Kristina Werner and well.....it took a long time and I'm not sure the results are all that great. I did all the stamping in Tsukineko green ink on Bazzill and Creative Memories cardstock. The stamps are by K and i Memories, Just Stamps, Inkadinkado and TPC Studio. I did it and the green was kind of blah. I restamped the one Best Wishes with Versa Mark ink and heat embossed it with Stamp N Stuff black glitter powder. I then inked some white cardstock by Recollections and heat embossed it with the same powder. I cut that paper into strips and adhered it to the corners. The circle is cut out with a Creative Memories circle cutter and it is on dimensional adhesive.

Deep Red Stamps Daisy Splash

Today's card is a little different style/color combo for me. I do love pink and black together especially on the stage but when it comes to cards I tend to be more cautious in my color choices.

Let me tell you about my bright N bold card. The stamp I used is by Deep Red Stamps and it's called Daisy Splash. You can find it at Scrapbook dot com and at A Cherry on Top. Fun pat about this stamp is its kind of like three stamps in one. There's this large stamp and then two smaller stamps. You could keep the. Together but I chose to separate them. You will see the creations I've made with the other stamps probably next week.

I stamped the large image onto white cardstock with Versa Mark ink and heat embossed the image with bright pink embossing powder by Stamp N Plus. The cardstock is by Recollections, pattern paper by K and I memories, sticker sentiment by Current and rhinestones by The Paper Co. I did round the edges of the image with Creative Memories corner rounder. I liked the look of the two corners rounded

Deep Red Stamps Merry and Bright

My Holly Stamp is by Deep Red Stamps and can be purchased at Scrapbook . com or A Cherry on Top.

I stamped the holly with green Versa Color pigment ink and heat embossed it in clear. I applied gold distress stain over the entire image and heat set it to dry. I wanted the image to have more sparkle so I sprayed it with water mixed with Perfect Pearls and heat set it again.

There are 4 different patterned papers in this card. The red polka dot paper is unknown but the rest are as follows: green sparkle background paper is by My Mind's Eye, green matting paper by K and i memories and off white with small pattern at the bottom by K and Co. The Merry bingo card is by Jenni Bowlin and the & Bright stickers are by Making Memories.

Some very exciting news came my way yesterday. I entered the Kenny K Guest designer Facebook contest and was selected as on of the four people they asked. I was pleasantly shocked to see my name. The patterned paper is by Doodlebug. The stickers on my card are by Momenta and Sticko. The sentiment stamp is by K and I with ink by Hero Arts. The flourish was cut out using my Cricut and the card base is by The Paper Studio.

The circles die cuts are punches from Creative Memories and EK Success. The sentiment stamp is by Stamp N Plus and is stamped with Hero Arts black ink. I used some scraps from my stash to make the circles.

You make my Heart Happy

I love this sentiment stamp by Hero Arts. It is stamped with Hero Arts black ink on a Spellbinders die cut with Making Memories eyelets. The heart die cuts are from my Cricut (not sure which cartridge but if I had to guess I would say Creative Memories Holiday Frames and Tags). The cardstock used in this card is by Recollections and DCWV. Patterned paper is by K and i Memories and the flower sticker is by K and Co.

For the background paper I stamped the flowers (by Close to my Heart) and then took a distress ink pad (by Ranger) and smeared it over the entire piece. Some spots I went over it twice to saturate the paper more giving it a darker appearance. I have fun experimenting with my supplies and finding new ways to use them. What new way to use your stash have you discovered lately?

Happy Friday to everyone!! So happy the work week is done. Happy Memorial day to my friends in the states. Monday off is a great way to start the summer off right. Yahoo!!

One Stitch at a Time Challenge #109

This week at One Stitch at a Time the challenge is to make something bright. I created my card using an image by Stitchy and when I first chose this image I must not have had my glasses on. Once it was sent to me I noticed it had witches hats on top of the cupcakes indicating it was a Halloween image. Another classic duh moment for me but I wasn't going to ask for another image because I rather liked the challenge of making it not a Halloween card.
I colored my image in using Copic markers and topped the cupcakes off with rhinestones by Imaginisce. I love how it turned out and think it goes to show that just because an image is intended for one thing you can make it your own and use it for something else.
The rest of my card consists of patterned paper by K&i Memories and Making Memories, glitter paper by DCWV, cardstock by Recollections and Making Memories, Flower ribbon by American Crafts, die cut (scallop circle and border) by Spellbinders, stamp by Fiskars and ink by Ranger Industries
I showed my husband this card and said "Do you think this is bright enough?" He gave me the look like are you serious?
Thanks for looking.
