Need Another Birthday Card

The card theme I use the most is Birthday.  It seems like there is always someone I know celebrating another year and I need a birthday card for them.  When I color an image or create a card design I really like, I try to make duplicates to keep on hand.  Adding some variation to the card layout helps me create additional cards.

I recently helped celebrated my friend, April Williams', birthday so I needed to make her a card.  I wanted to use the Three Delightful Cupcakes image from Just For Fun so I stamped it with Memento Ink and colored with Copic Markers.

After adding glitter to the cupcakes, this was layered on  some designer birthday paper, along with JFF's The Best Things in Life... sentiment.  Fun and easy, and perfect for a man, woman, or child.

I really liked how the cupcakes came out and still had some of the designer paper so I created a 2nd card.  I needed a card for a  a sketch

so decided to combine both.

I used all the same colors but changed the layout to match the sketch, added some ribbon, and used JFF's ...cupcake kind of day sentiment.

Which card is your favorite?

I chose to use the Chicken Run set for my card.  I love the rooster silhouette and there are a lot of great sentiments.

The card background was run through an embossing folder and layered on black and the red card base.  A piece of cardstock was covered with Versamark Ink and the new Super Thick Black embossing powder and heated from beneath to create a thick glossy black.  While still hot it was pressed onto the embossing folder, then cut into three strips and added to the card front, lining up with the embossed design.

The sentiment was embossed in White Detail EP on a black oval and popped up on a layer covered with the new Checkers embossing powder.  I love how this mix of colors looks on the card.

The rooster is heat embossed with Black Detail embossing powder and die cut with Spellbinders’ Labels 8.  The Checkers embossing powder was sprinkled on top and heated from the bottom.  This was layered on a slightly larger die cut edged with the new Super Thick Black embossing powder.

I think this new stamp set and these new embossing powders make a great combo.

I hope you have enjoyed this reveal hop.  Your last stop is Eret.  Her project is worth the wait!!

Congrats!

I had a great time visiting family over the last few weeks, though I have to admit I was glad to get home and stay out of the car.  My youngest daughter came home and we traveled 8 hours to Mississippi to pick up my older daughter.  Then we traveled 12 hours to Omaha, Nebraska to spend a little over 48 hours with my family.  My mom looked great after getting her pacemaker and my dad was doing pretty good while we were there, though he has good days and bad days.  Then it was 12 hours back to Mississippi to get the oldest back for work.  We stayed a few days and then 8 hours back to South Carolina.  After one night at home I took my youngest back to Charleston and spent a few days with her.  Then it was home at last!

Yesterday I was able to spend some time being creative with my stamping buddies and worked on this card for the House Mouse and Friends challenge theme of “Congratulations”.

I had a new Die Versions die I couldn’t wait to use, that was perfect for this.

The image is an older stamp with these two cuties.  After coloring with Tombow Markers, it was added to the card front, along with layers of red, pink, and polka-dot.

The white cardstock base is only a single layer because the red behind the image is folded to open up to whatever additional message you want.

Hope you are have some fun with family and loved ones on this 4th of July.

E. Marie

Lifting You Up In Prayer

I recently went through a very scary time when I thought I was going to lose my mother.  She was rushed to the hospital because of a problem with her heart.  I live about 1,000 miles away from my family and so I spent several hours trying to decide if I should be hopping a plane or not.  My sister told me to wait and promised she would let me know if I needed to come so I waited and prayed.  She ended up needing a pacemaker and I was able to spend a few minutes talking to her before her surgery.  She is doing great now but I do plan a trip home soon.  I also have had many friends going through similar things and decided to make some more cards to have on hand for times like this.

This card features a variety of older stamps from Our Daily Bread Designs.  The background uses one of their lacy background stamps, Crocheted Background, embossed with Sparkle N Sprinkle’s Belgian Cream embossing powder on craft cardstock.  This is added to layers of dark brown and light blue.

The sentiment and frame is an older mini sentiments set, embossed with Sparkle N Sprinkle’s Brown Fizz embossing powder.  I popped it up on a decorative die cut, cut from the light blue cardstock with Sue Wilson Designs' Beverly Hills die from her Californian Collection.  This was popped up on the card front.

I used ODBD’s Crocheted Border along the bottom.  I embossed it with Brown Fizz on the light blue cardstock and fussy cut it.

I did the same with the butterfly from ODBD’s Butterfly Corner.

I really love the softness of this card.

Have a blessed Easter.

E. Marie
