Beach and Coffee

Happy Memorial Day.  So many families are spending this long weekend at the beach so I thought I would create a card with a beach theme.  It is also time for the 2018 Spring/Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop so I mixed it up with a coffee theme, too.  Coffee is a vital part of my relaxing weekend.

I used the Coffee Background from Just For Fun Rubber Stamps.  It was inked with various Distress Inks to coordinate with the colors I planned to use for the sunset.  This was stamped first and then the same colors were sponged on top.  Darker blue and brown were sponged around the edges.

JFF's Adirondack Sunset image was stamped in brown twice.  The first image was sponged with Distress Inks to coordinate with the Coffee background.  On the second image the sun was sponged with Distress Ink and the chair was colored with Copic Markers.  These were both fussy cut and layered onto the inked image.

Using dark brown Memento Ink, the “May your day be filled...” sentiment from JFF was stamped on a white rectangle.  Distress Inks were sponged over and around it.  It was layered on blue, along with the Adirondack Sunset Image and then layered on top of the Coffee Background.  A small Sizzix coffee cup was die cut, sponged with ink, and added with fiber.

Have a wonderful week.

Sparkle N Sprinkle “My Favorite Technique” Blog Hop

Welcome to the Sparkle N Sprinkle “My Favorite Technique” Blog Hop.  I am so excited about this hop because I LOVE techniques!!  I can hardly wait to see what my fellow designers have created.

If you came here from the Sparkle N Sprinkle Blog you are in the right spot to start this hop!!  If you are just visiting and would like to join the hop, you might want to start back at the SNS Blog to get all the details!!  The hop runs from Thursday, March 14 through Friday, March 15 and the winners will be announced on Saturday, March 16.

Speaking of winners, by completing the hop and leaving a comment for each designer, you will have the chance to win a prize.  The grand prize is a stamp set of your choice and there are also 3 hidden prizes on 3 different designers’ blogs.  The designers don’t even know who has these prizes – it might be me!!

Here is the hop line-up so you know where you are headed:

Marie Berquist (that’s me)

Now, get comfortable and let's get started.

As I said, I love different techniques and certainly couldn’t pick just one favorite so today I will share just two.

This first card uses the EP Cosmos Technique which can be found in the SNS Tips and Techniques.  It uses a variety of embossing powders, including a touch of Super Thick EP.  To avoid making too much of a mess, you might want to do your heating from beneath the card.  I started with a maroon piece of cardstock and added Spiced Cider, Copper, and Sparkle EPs, along with the Super Thick Clear.  It gives such a great look and texture.  I cut out a window with a Spellbinder label die and popped it up over my image from the Chianti set.

I used the window scrap to cut out a smaller die to back my sentiment, Fine Wine.  I found these great wine charms and used them to hang my sentiment tag.  You can find the full detail of this card in the gallery here.

My second card also uses embossing – with powders and with an embossing folder.  I used the new Passion embossing folder and some Antique Gold EP to create another lovely background, this time using the Faux Patina Technique.

I added a tag created with a Spellbinder label die and colored with a variety of the same distress inks I used on the background.  The floral image is from the new Spring Florals set and was heat embossed with Teddy Brown EP and colored with a Dove Blender and the same distress inks.  The sentiment comes from the same stamp set.

I colored my ribbon and lace to coordinate with the card and added some baby wipe flowers I made (see Flower Making in Tips and Techniques).  Check out the card details here.

I hope you enjoyed these cards and techniques.  Make sure you visit the Sparkle N Sprinkle Tips and Techniques section as it is full of great ideas for your cards.  Now it is time to head to the next stop at Dawn Bennett’s beautiful blog!!  Let’s head on over together to see what she has made using her favorite technique.  Don’t forget to leave a comment before you go so you have a chance for a prize.

Have a fun hop!!

E. Marie

The October Challenge is based on a sketch.

For my card I decided to use another Michelle Perkett digital image, Cal the California Surfing Cow.  I printed this in black and colored with alcohol markers.  It is layered on a background using an embossing folder and a combination of the Faux Patina Technique and the EP Cosmos Technique, in the SNS Tips and Techniques, using the dry embossing, inking, and adding clear super thick EP.  You can find the details here.

You have until October 31 to enter to this challenge.  Now head on over to the new Sparkle N Sprinkle Creative Challenges to find all the challenge details and requirements, along with more inspiration from my fellow designers, including many of our new designers that have just joined us!!

Sparkle N Sprinkle's Celebrating Summer Blog Hop

Welcome to the Sparkle N Sprinkle's Celebrating Summer Blog Hop.  School is almost out and summer is around the corner!!  Time for some summer fun!!  If you hopped here from April Williams’ wonderful blog, you are in the right place!!  If you are just starting at my blog, you might want to go to the SNS blog to get all of the details and start from the beginning.

There is a chance to win one of FIVE great prizes!!  There are 2 grand prizes and 3 “random” prizes that are attached to 3 different designers’ blogs!  To become eligible to win, please visit each designer’s blog and leave a comment.  The hop runs from Thursday, May 17 through Friday, May 18.  All winners will be announced on Saturday, May 19.

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is to go to the ocean and walk along the beach, picking up shells.  It is so relaxing with the sound of the waves in the background, a breeze coming off of the water, and the sand between your toes.  I tried to put all of this in today’s card.

The main image is a combination of the Nature's Gift  image and the Sand in YourShoes image.  The Sand in Your Shoes image was stamped twice and cut out with Spellbinder Oval dies.  These were popped up on top of each other and layered on top of the Nature’s Gift image.

The background is created using the Faux Patina technique.  Then cream decorative paper is torn, sponged with antique linen ink, and layered along the left side and the bottom.  Sea Oats were stamped and embossed with Cappuccino EP on the left side and Sand along the bottom strips with Hit theBeach EP.  Then I added Mudd Puddles Beach Pieces and shells cut out from the Nature’s Gift image.  The Mudd Puddles are a new product at SparkleN Sprinkle and I love what they added to my card.  The Beach Pieces are pieces of shell in a quick drying adhesive and you just spread them with a knife.  As a final touch I added a sea horse charm, colored with alcohol markers and embossed several times with Silver Pearl EP, hung from blue fiber.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Now it is time to head over to Shona Erlenborn’s sparkling blog.  Don’t forget to leave a comment before you hop to be eligible to win!!  Also, all Water, Food and Beverage, and designer, Rosiland Solomon, images are on special - 15% off.  To see all the specials, click here.
