Baby Elf Hat

Ooops!!!  I just noticed that my last post was almost 2 months ago.  That's shameful, isn't it?!?  I've been a very BAD blogger!!!  I hope Santa hasn't noticed, otherwise I may well be getting coal in my stocking this year!  Just in case Santa happens to follow crafty blogs, I'm going to try to be a GOOD blogger over the next few weeks.....

Probably even more shameful than my lack of blogging recently has been my lack of crafting!  After Bo was born, I didn't touch my sewing machine, crochet hooks, knitting needles or pretty-paper-stash for months.  Then, about six weeks ago, I picked up where I'd left off all that time ago (though it only seems like 5 minutes ago), and started some serious crafting again.

So now I have lots of show-and-tells in the pipeline.

For today, I wanted to show you a little baby elf hat that I made for Bo. It was the first crafty project I managed to finish since our little elf's arrival.

Here it is.....

I sort-of made it up as I went along.  I couldn't find a pattern that was just right for what I wanted.  I made a similar hat for a friend last Christmas (which you can see here).  It looked very cute when I'd finished it, but it was a bit small and not quite the shape I'd hoped it would be when it was on.  So, for Bo's, I did my own thing.  It doesn't look as cute off, but better on (if you know what I mean).

You can see for your self how it looks on, anyway.  Next time, I'll share some photos that I took of Bo in his elf hat.

Until then.....

I hope you're all keeping warm and well, and getting lots of christmassy crafting done!!!

Hugs,

Carly

'Daddy and Me' Bow-ties

Hi there,

Just a quick one today.  My parents are going to be visiting for a couple of weeks (yippeeeeee!!!), so I'm 'scheduling' this post in advance.

Do you remember the snap-on bow-ties I made for Bo?  You can take a peek at them here and here.  Well, he gets LOADS of wear out of them.  I think they're really cute and, as they just snap on to his vests, they make an easy going-out outfit.

Simon always laughs at Bo in his bow-ties, and thinks they're great.  So.....  SURPRISE!!!  I made him one to match one of Bo's!!!

He SAID he really likes it.  Now let's see if I can persuade him to WEAR it.....  ;-)

More Bow-ties

Last week, I showed you some snap-on/snap-off bow-ties that I made for our little one.

Well, I got a bit addicted to making tiny bow-ties for a while.  And I ended up making quite a few.

Originally, I planned to sew them.  But I discovered that (for most of the stages of making), it was easier and MUCH less fiddly to use fabric glue!

So, here they are:

When I was photographing the bow-ties, I just HAD to go and get some of the teeny-tiny trousers and shorts out of the wardrobe - to experiment with making up little outfits. I REALLY have to just quickly show you my favourite:

I think that, when I get the time to make some more bow-ties (which I'm sure I will be doing at some point), I'll take some photos along the way and do a mini-tutorial to share on here.  One of the days.....

See you soon.....

Dummy Clip

This is just a quick post.  I wanted to show you another of my baby-makes.

I saw the idea of a dummy clip on Pinterest, and thought it would be a quick and easy make.  Of course, we don't even know yet whether our little one will WANT a dummy.  But now he has a dummy clip - just in case.....

What an easy-peasy make!  Just a tube of fabric with a 'braces' clip at one end:

And a pair of snap-fasteners at the other:

So, if he turns out to be a dummy fan, I may well be making a whole COLLECTION of these - one to match every outfit!  ;-)

Bye for now.....

Baby Boy Bloomers and Bow-ties

I'm FREEEEEEE!!!!!

On my last trip to the doctor's, I was told that I no longer need to be on bed-rest. So I've been making the very most of my new-found freedom!  We've been catching up with friends, going for 'date nights', doing lots of 'nesting'-type jobs around the house.....  And, of course, I've been getting my craft on!

At last!  The opportunity to do more baby-crafting!  And I've gone a bit silly.  I just can't stop!!!  So now, the problem is.....  I don't know which project to show you first?!?

I think I'll start with the cutest AND funniest.....

I decided to make a little outfit - some boyish 'bloomers', and a bow-tie to match.  Here's the finished outfit:

Then I had an idea - if I attached the bow-tie to the little body-suit with snap-fasteners, I could make a whole RANGE of interchangeable bow-ties (and you know how it is - newborns can never have too many bow-ties)!!!

So I did this:

And then I IMMEDIATELY made another little outfit:

And, after that, I made MORE bow-ties!  But I'll save those for another post.....

In 'OTHER EXCITING NEWS' (well, actually THE most exciting news).....  we visited the hospital on Friday, and I'm booked in to have a c-section on Monday 30th June.  So, only two weeks to go now!!!!!

Until next time.....

Dribble Bibs

Here are some dribble bibs that I made for our little one.  What a quick and easy make!  I can see myself running up lots more of these over the next few years!!!

There was just one problem.  I'll share the story with you.....

To finish them off neatly (and quickly), I decided to get a snap-fastener kit.  It came with a flimsy little plastic 'machine' that you have to wallop with a hammer to fix the little metal bits in place.....

Having smacked my thumb with the hammer on my first try, I called Simon to help.....

He gave the thing a huge man-sized wallop with the hammer.....

And now there's an enormous hole in my crafting desk!!!

I've been making sure the hole's always covered up with a book, or a pile of fabrics, or a jar of buttons.  When I'm freed from this bedrest business, I think one of my first projects will have to be finding a creative way of permanently covering the desk and its hole!!!

Until next time.....

Baby Bits Order

So, I've been raiding the camera again - for photos of projects I finished before the bedrest started.

This time, I thought I'd show you this set of baby things I made.  Not for our little one, but an order for a gift.

Here goes.....

I made a bib:

A big bag (to carry changing-essentials in):

And a quilt:

Luckily, I managed to finish everything off just in time!  I got the bed rest instruction the DAY after I sent the package off!!!

Now let me see what I can find on the camera for my next post.....

Loop Scarves

Hello there,

Thank you for all the lovely comments on my last post - and for your ideas of crafty-things-to-do-whilst-laying-on-your-back.  I did get some inspiration (and giggles) from your suggestions!

As I've been such a rubbish blogger lately, I do have quite a few makes from way-back-when that I haven's shared with you yet.  Including these.....

They are loop scarves that I made for Christmas - one for my mom, one for my sister, and one for my best friend.

I was a bit baffled by the puzzle of how to sew them up to begin with, but got the hang of it in the end.  Once the idea of how it should work clicked, they became a reasonably quick and easy project.

I'll definitely be making more of them (I want one for myself, actually).

Maybe, when I have the time (and ability), I'll do a little loop scarf tutorial and share it on here.

Until next time.....

Carly
