TIME FLIES

Today I have a mixed media piece for you using lots of viintage pieces combined with everyday craft items.
I began by coating one of Tim Holtz Etcetera tags with a coat of Texture Paste, applying in an uneven coat to give texture to the background. I then applied a coat of Gesso and once dry I then added a coat of Antique Linen Distress Paint and then dried this layer with a heat tool. I then added a light coat of Vintage Photo Distress Paint, dried lightly and then rubbed away some of the colour. To add a touch more colour I added highlights of Tumbled Glass Distress Paint, wiping away any excess paint as I moved around the tag. I then dried the tag thoroughly with a heat tool.
I added a vintage clock behind my relic piece along with a few smaller vintage pocket watch faces. I love these!
To add further texture to the background I applied Texture Paste over the Tim Holtz Numeric Layering stencil. I highlighted the numbers further with Distress Crayon, smudging with my finger.
I added a Finnabair rusty pocket watch and added vintage watch parts to the inside. I melted some clear embossing powder and then poured the hot melted powder over the watch parts to secure.
The body of the Relic piece has been covered with vintage French book pages and aged with Distress Crayon.
I stapled together some vintage letters to add TIME FLIES to the top of my tag. I love how you can clearly see all the texture and aged feel to this piece in the background.
I added a Tim Holtz Game Spinner to her body and also include some wings from a Finnabair Butterfly embellishment. I also added further vintage watch parts to her wings.
I had total freedom with this piece and it was great fun just to let go and enjoy the process and seeing where it took me.
I love all the delicate layers of colour and the texture gives this piece a real tactile feel.
More vintage pocket watch faces and watch parts added here along with some delicate pieces of confetti.
I really enjoyed creating this piece.

Live Inspired

A little mixed media piece I created using Finnabair pastes combined with a Relic piece from Prima (Sandra Evertson).
I used a Prima Tray as my base coloured with Dina Wakley Heavy Body Acrylic. The background has been created using Finnabair's Rust Pastes applied through a stencil.
I added book pages to the centre which I crumpled and tore to add age and I also added one of my favourite Relic pieces to the centre.
I added a small embroidery hoop for added dimension.
Expression is taken from a book page and I also added some cotton threads and rusty tin wire for added texture.
I also added numbers from Tim Holtz Idea-ology along with a few Remnant Rubs. Original is another piece torn from a book page.
I love how in this picture all the layers are visible. I also wrapped rusty tin wire around the embroidery hoop, again for added texture.
To complete I added "Live Inspired" to the top of my tray. I also aged the Relic piece by giving it a wash of Raw Umber DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic.

Stay Curious

I had a play day recently just for fun with a friend and these are the results.
It was fun to just play for no reason but fun. The idea was to combine vintage finds with any of our craft items and mediums. I altered an old cigar box using DecoArt Media products, Relic Pieces and Prima Artisan Powder along with added embellishments and bits and pieces.
The spoon which holds the Relic piece was from a car boot sale, I love the edge detail on the spoon. Torn papers and wire are added to a torn piece of Alice in Wonderland book page. The beads are from an old set of earrings.
I aged the Relic piece and the spoon with the Prima Artisan Powder and backed everything onto a Mega Crackle backdrop using DecoArt Media products.
I also included an old door handle which fitted perfectly over the spoon along with some circles of wire for added texture.
The book page was aged with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
The text "Blessed are the curious for they shall have adventures" is computer generated. The picture is from one of my vintage shopping trips along with the cherub and mushroom.
The hessian added behind is for added texture to the design, I love adding texture to  my work.
A little fairy added to the top of the cherub and metal leaves added from an old necklace.
A rusty heart and moss add further texture.
The cigar box is surrounded by crackle texture.
Thanks so much for popping by. Hope you are all enjoying the festive build up to the big day. Tracy x x

DREAMER

Welcome to my monthly piece for Eileen Hull's Art With Heart Challenge. This month we are doing something a little different; all the designers have been challenged to create a simple project that is simple to create and not too time consuming.
I already had the Passport Book die cut from kraft card on my desk so this was my starting point. The next step was to add simple decoration and technique. I began by tearing masking tape randomly and then adhering to the front cover. I then used a blow torch (one you would use for cooking) and hovered over the masking tape to burn (a technique from Andy Skinner); it works perfectly and is so simple and adds a lovely aged feel to the project. I then added a Prima Relic piece from Sandra Evertson which I coloured with a touch of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic; dabbing off the excess paint with a piece of kitchen towel. I added a circle of rusty wire behind the Relic piece and then added delicate splatters of Gathered Twigs Distress Spray stain along with scratchy lines using an old credit card and DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic. I also added a couple of pieces of masking tape to the Relic piece, again burning with a blow torch. "dreamer of dreams" has been added to the face using Remnant Rubs. A touch of simple stamping completes the front cover.
The inside pages have been decorated very simply. A couple of strips of burnt masking tape, a few delicate splatters of Distress Spray Stain and some simple sentiment stamping.
Continuing with the simplicity throughout the book.
Gathered Twigs Distress Ink has been applied to all the edges to add to the aged worn feel of the book.
Continuing the theme to the back cover.
A couple of close up shots to show the detail!
The rustic tones, monochromatic colours, splatters and torn burnt paper all add to the rustic aged feel.
A simple dream kraft Chitchat sticker has been included for added interest.
