LET It Snow

Went with a very non-tradtional Christmas card for this Retro Sketch challenge. Since I've been playing with snowflakes, I saw snowflakes instead of the hearts found in the sketch. These sweet little flakes are from PTI's In The Meadow and the sentiment is from Tremendous Treats: Christmas. I embossed the flakes and sentiment so they could stand out more on the kraft c/s. The clouds are die cut out with PTI cloud dies and before I used pop dots on the clouds out sponged Weathered Wood and Stormy Sky. The edge of the card was sponged with Fresh Snow ink.

Winter Ornament

A quick post tonight as I am trying to work on some more cards for the SCS HYCCT challenges. I really want to finish all of the challenges and I am way behind again. Two challenges are left to be posted and then I will have 13 (a baker's dozen) to complete by November 7th. That gives me 7 days to complete them. That's something like 2 a day right? Yeah, I teach literature not math, lol. After that I wanted to make more cards for the other card drive I've been working with (that ends November 15th). I know I should stop, but it's hard to say no to a really good cause.

My card tonight is inspired from this card. The only thing I would do differently is added some copic shading to the ground to give it some depth. I stamped the snowflakes on some transparency and taped it to the back of the navy cardstock that was outlined with a silver paint pen. I sponged with sky with some grey and two shades of blue. The image is Lovely As A Tree from SU!

Tag, You're It!

I finally have been able to get this idea for a Christmas tag down. It's not exactly like I had planned, but I really like the end result none-the-less. I'm entering this for the Waltzingmouse Christmas tag challenge. I used the Seasons of Love - Tags stamp for the star and sentiment. I've been wanting to play since Claire first posted this Challenge but have only know had the courage to play along. I was limited on supplies and really wanted to do her stamp set justice. I keep thinking I could have added a little more but then as I start thinking about the night sky I remeber that God made it simple and sparkly bright and if that is good enough for Him then it should be good enough for me. I stamped the star twice: once with versamark on clear accetate and embossed with Iridescent Ice and then again on vellum embossing it in white. I kept the center it them so that the person's name that this will go to could be written. Then I stamped the sentiment on vellum with versmark and embossed it in white as well. I loke how the background cand subtly be seen behind it. The frame for the sentiment is an old piece I have from SU!. The flourish image on the top and bottom is from Tim Holtz's Fabulous Flourishes while the script is from PTIs Text Style (since I don't have WMS's text background yet). The flourishes are embossed in Iridescent Ice like the star while the words were stamped in Faded Jeans Distress Ink. I sponged Faded Jeans and Broken China for the background base color. The top and bottom of the card are swiped with some pearl paint (a technique I picked up from the great Tim Holtz). I used some sivler cord to hang the star as well as for the bows that I combined with some white sheer ribbon. I had lots of fun making this tag and it'll be hard to give it away....so maybe I'll just keep it for myself, lol.

Challenges used:
Pixie Cottage: sketch and/or metal (I choose the metal)
Papertake Weekly: sparkly and bright
Cute Card Thursday: transparent (my star and the sentiment)

What does a bike and a penquin have in common?

Nothing except that I used them on my two cards tonight and the fact that they are part of the SCS Hopy You Can Cling To month long challenge. The first one is a pink card (something I don't do all that often). It is a square 4.25 x 4.25 size and the image and sentiment is from PTI's Everyday Button Bits. I'm not sure what the pink is turning out so bright but they are the shades from the color inspiration, I promise.

Challenges used:

SCS HYCCT09: square card, pink, min of four squares

Colour Q:
Little red wagon: hearts (I used them in the corners)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now for the second card. This one is a winter theme. I used some pre-printed vellum and the "snow" hill is covered in Glimmer Glam Chandelier while the igloo is coated in glossy accents. The stamped images are from Unity's Jolly Little Winter set.

Challenges used:
Get Sketchy:
Copic Creations: use the blender pen (I used it on the ear muffs and the black part of the little fella'
Lollipop Creations: winter play
My Partner in Crafting Crime: sparkle and shine
Fussy and Fancy: winter wonderland
Totally Gorjuss: sparkle
Southern Girls: glitter it up
SCS HYCCT17: pop out/up an image (part of the igloo is popped up as is the penguin although it's really hard to tell

You must match with your snowMAN

I love how a snowglobe can be simple so that the inside can shine. For this cute little Christmas/winter card I used SSD's Frosty andFiona and snowglobe template. I paper piece the bottom part to match with my image. I used a wood type stamp on the brown and just used my Blossom Spica pen to color the pink parts to give it a subtle shimmer. Using some snowflake stamps I decorated the 'glass' globe to resemable the snow coming down after one has been shaken. I found a great tutorial on-line (SCS I think) that showed how to do the snowcap to hide the ugly part of the card meeting the acetate. There are little mistakes that are glaring at me but my cousin who is more like a sister won't even notice. I haven't decided on the sentiment so I left that part blank (but I am thinking about clear embossing the words Brrr... on the 'wood' base.

Challenges (and there are lots again):
If the shoe fits scrap it: favorite coloring medium (I LOVE my copics)
Stamp Challenges: Holiday something
Hope Stamps Eternal: cupcake inspiration (the colors and the snowman were mine)
All that scraps: sparkle (The snow cap covered in stickles, the pink edges on the base as well as the image
Dare U 2 Digi: last min Christmas
Easy Craft Projects: inspired from a project listed on their blog (I used this one as I recycled a piece of shipping acetate and used it to create the glass globe on the snowglobe card)
Stamp Challenges: Holiday something
Practical Stampers: Holiday/Christmas
One Stop Craft Challege: Christmas card for someone you love
Saturday Spotlight: Favorite music style (I really love most music but right now it's the holiday kind)

I'm in the Holiday mood

I know Halloween isn't even here yet, but I got in the mood to create two winter cards. I used two of the newest images from Sassy Studio Designs (Cocoa Carol and Trimming the Tree). They are both so much fun to create with (ok, so they ALL are...hee hee hee). No challenges (except sketches) were used. Are ya' shock (I know I am).

For the first card, I used Cocoa Carol and Mojo Monday's Sketch. The paper is from Basic Grey's Eskimo Kissees and I picked the more traditional Holiday colors for this one. I was loving this card until I colored the chair. I'm just not feeling the color or the look of it. The colors I used are copic's G20, 21, 24 but I really need to either buy more greens or learn how to color with these better.

The second card is a little non-traditional (at least the colors for me are) and I used SSD's Trimming the Tree with Tuesday Morning Sketches. I also paired it up with PTI's Take a Bough for the hanging ornements. I had lots of fun with this one and am really beginning to like these colors together for the holidays. I used some Pixie Dust Shimmerz paint for my bling because you can't have a Christmas tree without the bling.
