Fall flower

Fire Fest 2010 was fun. We saw the art work that three of my mom's kids won ribbons for and got to meet the firefighters from the calender (ok, so that was more for me then them, lol). DS #1 was slow to warm up to everything but by the end you would have thought he was into everything as he kept saying how he was going to be a firefighter when he got older. We did see some fire demostrations (at least me and my youngest as the oldest was freaked) and even got some pictures of them with some firetrucks. We'll have to go back next year for sure.

I've got another card for ya'll today, and this one came together rather quickly too. I punched 4 or 5 scallop circles out of a dictionary page to make the flower, covered them in Glimmer Mist, and crumpled them up. Once they were dry I just layered them adding a bit of glue in-between each one. I placed a pretty golden bling to the center and I was done. I paired it up with a wonderful quote from Verve's Blue Skies set sponged the edges with Scattered Straw and Dried Marigold distress ink. I love the look of the distress flower and it works so well with the distress brown frame layer as well as the crumpled up vellum (which has a nice shimmer thanks to my Iridescent Gold GM). I also went with a long skinny card as it isn't my norm and I wanted something a little different.

Challenges used:
Stamp Something - use a punch
If the Shoe Fits - distress
CCEE - add a flower you made
Cute Card Thrusday - make your own embelli

Orange you glad Autumn is here?

Corny title I know but it goes so well with my first card and the weather we're having here in Texas. I have somehow managed to find time to color three images and make four card this weekend. Today I'm only showing two of them and tomorrow I'll show the other two. I am feeling better and some decisions are being made (although none that I can share at the moment). I'm doing lots of talking with my Father and trying to understand what he is telling to do. I have had a sense of peace one day this week when a decision was made, and I am going to try to hold on to that as it is my light right now. I really believe it's God's way of letting me know that things will be ok. I talked to my DH about the feeling and what brought it one and he too believes that it was God.

On to my cards. The first one is a digi fairy from The Greeting Farm that I've had printed out for awhile now. I've noticed several challenges about Autumn and with the cooler weather making its way to my home I thought she would make a nice Autumn fairy. I colored her orange with copics and then decided that I would do an almost monochromatic card. I had just gotten this great pad of paper from YMH and just had to try it on the card. The gold and cream are from the SEI Windsor paper pack. In that same YMH shipment came lots of Tattered Angles products including the Iridescent Gold glimmer mist that I used on the orange cardstock. To bring the card to life (as it was getting to be just a touch too much orange for my liking) I created an outdoor backgroudn using Patina and Key Lime glimmer mist on some dictionary paper I cut to size. I was inspired to create this whimsical background from Sammi's post here for the Oh Alice! challenge. I loved how it looked and since I don't have an airbrushig system I thought my GMs would do the trick. I love how it turned out and may be using this technique more. Finally I colored some clear bling to match my fairy and painted some Shimmerz paint to her wings.

Challenges used:
SSD - anything goes
The Classroom - Glitz challenge for World Card Making Day
Paper Cutz - 3 patterned paper
Oh, Alice - use text in a nonsense way

My second card uses a Tiddly Inks image that is backed with Basic Grey's Eerie paper pad. I simple little card (4.25 x 4.25). I got the sketch from Lord Have Mercy and the color combo from ICopics challenge.
