I have been a fan of CASE Study since they started; however, I haven't always been able to play along. Truth is, when I do get to play I forget to post. The challenge for the call is to create a project inspired by our "Muse". I have many (a couple reveled here and here). Most of my crushes fit the style I have found myself drown to lately - CAS, even cutesy. Since this DT call also encouraged us to pick a Muse who could stretch our creativity I thought I would go with Eva from For the Love of Life. I love how she mixes patterns and the amazing layers and bows she uses. Since Mother's Day is right around the corner and I still need to make all of mine, I decided to pull my inspiration from this card of her's
So much goodness here. The colors, the layout, the flowery goodness. What exactly should I focus on. After sleeping on it, I settled on the sketch. To bring my own self into my CASE I stripped the card down to the basic sketch. I ended up liking the sketch so much that I created two cards for this call.
My first card also pulled from her colors. I layered the colors the same as Eva's, but since I don't have a doily for the layering under the frame and banner so I improvised and used a flower. As much as I loved the banner on her card, I just couldn't get it to feel right on mine and left it off.
I left the flowers off as well but decided to represent them with the layered butterfly. I also tried to maintain the feel of the different patterns because, again, I love how she puts them together. My problem was that I didn't have any that worked with the color scheme so I improvised again and created my own for the banners. Again, I had so much fun with the layout of her card that I created a second one.
For the second card I decided to tone down the patterns and use the same colors but in a different order. I was even able to include the wee little banner. Happy dance! I really wanted to go with a non-traditional Mom's card (especially since to me the colors Eva used weren't traditional) and as I was looking for the perfect stamp in my collection my eyes landed on this little house scene. I knew instantly this was it as my parents have two kids: me and my brother. Because this was the image I wanted to go with instead of a sentiment, the clouds were a perfect fit. Instead of the banner along the edge I went for some clouds and instead of the flower/doily I use a few more clouds. I embossed the clouds in white and then colored them in with a white gel pen to break up all of that sky blue. To bring in the red I went with a dotted red banner (love banner, don't you) and even a little red heart. My homes were black embossed and water colored. I also coated the windows with glossy accent. I think the banner might be my favorite part with the cute little bows and the heart. Now, many are probably wondering why houses for a Mom's day card, so I thought I would let ya'll know the sentiment I am adding to the inside: It is from your home that we have learned how to build a home of our own. One that is filled with love and encouragement. Thank you and Happy Mother's Day.
