Time for another PTI blog hop and this time it is all about inspiration from this picture:
The first thing I noticed was the color variation on the wall. I adore rainbows and this was like one big happy rainbow. The rainbow even looks more "adult" since the colors aren't in the traditional order. I've seen this look done on several blogs I follow lately (including Nichole's) and thought I would give it a try myself. At first I thought I would do this as a no layer kind of card, but after I started I quickly discovered it wouldn't be. My first attempts was streaky and just plain not right. I tried it again and thought it was better but not big enough for what I had in mind. For my third try at this technique I thought I nailed it. I loved how the colors seemed to flow into each other and though it wasn't big enough for a no-layer card I could still make it a CAS card. This kind of a background works well with shillouettes either in white or black, and I went with black. I took the placement of the stamps from the layout of the picutre. All of my stamps are from Out On a Limb. I added some black bling in the center of some of the bigger flowers, and then to blanance the card I carried some of the black up to the opposite corner with three, slighly bigger black rhinestones. I mounted the foucal image on black cardstock and then PTI's Hawaiian Shores. All of that was then mounted on the white cardstock base.
After I finished it, I started to clean and noticed my second attempt laying there. The poor thing was just begging to be part of a project, so I took pity on it and turned it into a slightly smaller card (4.25 x 4.5). I really liked the imperfect edges of the color swipes and wanted to keep that in my card, so I cut around it. The same stamps were used, but this time instead of adding bling I simply took some black ink pad and rubbed it around the edges. The result was a nice frame that looks very similar to an outline. It was then layered on top of the white base. Another great CAS card. Overall I find it more relaxed than the first one, but still very worthy on it's own.
Again, I love how the backgrounds turned out in a rainbow of colors and with the branches it just seemed to go together. Because I see the rainbow in this I thought it would also fit the challenge at Embellish: use the rainbow colors and rainbows.

That looks beautiful. I love how the colors don't go all of the way to the edge. I think that gives it a neat look.
Fantastic cards! I really like the black stamped branch with the touch of bling on your first one and the imperfect edges of coloring with the black outline on your second!
gorgeous cards!! I'm not sure which I like better, so I'm glad you posted both ;) :D
Nicely done!
Oh, WOW, both are beautiful, but I really like your 2nd one best -- those edges just MAKE it!!! AWESOME!!!
Fantastic take on this challenge Cassie! I passed on this one myself cuz I felt uninspired by the inspiration pic, but you definitely nailed it! Hugs~
Gorgeous Cassie. Love the layers on the first card and the random swipes of color on the second. Just so bright and cheerful.
I like the style of this card! Both of them are nice but my fav is your #2 card. Good interpretation! :)
I love it. It is simple but beautiful. Great job
You definitely nailed it on that blended rainbow background - fabulous job! ;-D I love both of your cards. The second does seem a little more 'calm', but they are both perfectly pretty and the sentiment is perfect for both. Great work! ;-)
Both are lovely...hmmm...#2 is my fav!
Wonderful rainbow background. Simply beautiful card.
Great job on both of them! I especially like the second one.
Cassie, LOVE the black branch and sentiment against the rainbow colors! GORGEOUS!
Gorgeous card, Cassie!
This is truly gorgeous! The second card is my fave, but I do love them both, but I like the framing in the second card. Loooove the black branch on the bright colors, looks awesome!!!
Hugs, Wendy
Both beautiful, Cassie! I think you did a great job with the shading--on both cards. It's just two different styles of shading, and I think they are both just as effective. Love your choice of Out on a Limb--it was my first PTI set, so holds a special place in my heart. :-) Happy June Hopping!
Beautiful!
Both of these are beautiful, but I really enjoy your imperfect "streaky" looking rainbow!
I think both are fabby!
Really great blending...
I think I like the 2nd one best...
the uneven edges just give that "something"!
Both cards are so nice! Sometimes our best work comes from leftovers!
Absolutely gorgeous color! I just love your backgrounds.
Lovely! I really like how there are 'edges' to the rainbow colours. And the black image really pops!
Both cards are *beautiful*. I love the mats on the first card and how they just draw everything out. And I love the black edge on the 2nd. Wonderful!!!!
Wow! You nailed it, Cassie! :) So glad you joined us for the Embellish Color Trends Challenge! :)
