How do you keep a teacher away?

By giving her an apple right? I just LOVE this new teacher image from Sassy Studio Designs. She is part of the Back To School release on Sept 1st.The blackboard that can be used for so many sayings. I had just gotten some of Cosmo Crickets new paper from their 'The Boyfriend' line and Teacher's Pet-Paper pack by Imaginisce. These papers just screamed vintage to me, so with those papers and some challenges, I knew what I wanted to.

Because this is a digi image, I didn't have to color the blackboard. Before I printed the image I erased the stick the teacher was holding to give me more room to use for words that I typed right onto the board and then filled it in with a shade of green I liked. I also filled in her glasses rim because I knew it would be too hard for me to color. Beging a teacher myself, I colored her hair to match mine, and after I colored the rest of her, I rubbed Distress Ink (vintage photo and antique linen) to age the image. Once the ink was on I splattered some water to push the ink around in spots to add more to the vintage feel. Finally, I added a thin coat of glossy accents to the glasses for a realistic look and the apple for some shine. For the ribbon, I used some twill and wrapped it around the card leaving a tail hanging from the front. I thought it would make a neat faux bookmark so I knotted it off and added a charm I made. I stamped the apple from SU! Tart & Tangy (?retired) stamp set using my copics and rubbing alchol onto some shrink plastic. Then I punched it out and the hole then shrank it with my heat gun. After that, I put a ring through it and the twill to give the bookmark some character. I also used my sewing machine for the second time on a card and stitched around the two smaller patterend papers. I really like the feel it gave to the card, but I so need to work on my sewing and threading (took me almost 30 to thread the darn machine). The apple in the corner is from SU! Alphabet Images (don't know if that's retired or not either - sorry) and stamped using the Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I used my notebook paper punch for the notepaper on the card to add more to the school feel. This was a card I had LOTS of fun with.

It's Homework Time.

It is almost time for another Sassy Studio Design release. Because of that, I am here to show you three cards I made using one of the new images. I'm going to keep the chatting to a low as it's already midnight here and I really do need to get to sleep. Also, due to the lateness of the evening and the number of cards I am showing, I was unable to get the pictures of the copics I used for these cards. If you are really interested in the colors than just leave me a message or email me. All this working is starting to take it's toll on me.

First card used Sketch Saturday's sketch #6 and ABC Challenges B - buttons and C - circles. I used copic BG18 to color what was a white button a tealish color to match my card. In all three cards I used CE on one braclet and glitter on the other one.

Second card used Sketch & Stash Cahllenge #17 , Dare U 2 digi stamp Fri (1 ribbon - wrapped around the DP the image is on; 2 - patterned paper; 3 - flowers), and CREATIVE INSPIRATIONS friendship card (this is a card for a teacher friend of mine). I used my copics to color two of the three flowers to match my paper and image.

Third card (not really my favorite, but still cute) used Mojo Monday's latest sketch. I used some old SU DP I had laying around and ran it through my printer to get the repeated words. A copic was also used on the ribbon so that I could have a grey ribbon for my card. Glitter was applied around the edge of the image to give it a little bling.

Sweet Dreamers’ Challenge # 4- Word Has It...

One of the blogger's groups I belong too challenged us to create a card with words being the focus image and no coloring. Wow, what a challenge. Since I had gotten my Copics I haven't created a card with out them. I used a few other challenges to help me put this all togther. I really like the end result and am not sure just who it'll go to. Maybe I'll just frame it and display it in my classroom. Speaking of classroom, that is why I haven't posted in a few days. This past week was teacher inserivce allowing up to get ready for our students to come back on the 24th. My craft/play time has been shortened and so begins the journey of finding the balance :)

Challenges:
MojoMaria - a sketch
A Spoon Full of Sugar - travel theme, the stamps has bird and the phrase starts with going for long walks; there is a butterfly (all of this reminds me of ways to travel with dreams
Stamp, Scrap, and Doodle Saturdays - monochromatic
Hope Stamps Eternal Cupcake Challenge - had shades of purple in the cupcake

Supplies:
Stamp - Unity
Paper - Stampin' Up: Shimmer White, Lovely Lilac, Lavendar Lace
Ink - SU! Lovely Lilac

Just Breathe

I wasn't going to share this card, but decided that I would just so ya'll could see my first try at sewing on my card with a machine. It so didn't turn out the way I have pictured it in my mind. I really liked the image I colors and wanted to use the phrase "just breathe" as this one of the times I need to remember to do just that. A new school year is starting and that means my teacher hat is back on. The sketch is from Get Sketchy. The image is Dhyana from Sassy Studio Designs.

Sweet Prayers

I've showed ya'll one card using a digital art from Mo Manning and now I have another one. If you remember from my last mention of her, I told you that she is an illustrator for several children's books. She gives the same quality of work to her digital art as she does to her book illustrations. They really are little works of art and I highly recommend checking them out.

This image I was able to get while it was still in pencil form (not the inked image you see in the store). It is perfect for those who like to watercolor and even use prisma pencils (both of which I have yet to get comfortable with). I have seen a couple of cards with this image using soft copic colors. I would have like it to be a little softer, but I can only work with what I have. The sketch is from Lord Have Mercy. Overall I am very pleased with this card. Details will follow the close up of his pj bottoms.

I tried a new color combo for his hair. I used Yoo, Y11, Y21, Y23, & E31. I used light feather strokes (if you even can call it that as I barely touched the paper cause I was afraid to mess up what I already colored). Really, I just played with the placement until I was good with how it looked so here's hoping that I can do it again cause I like it. For the PJ bottoms I added the dots with the colorless blender after I colored it. This was the first time I did this technqiue too and I discovered that it is easy and fun to do. I like how it gives the bottoms just a touch of personality. The images (both background and the boy) are popped up with pop dots to give the card depth (and to lay flat as the bow isn't all the way through the card). I'm still toying with the idea of adding a sentiment to the right edge of the image. Something like "praying" or "blessings". All of the colors I used are below.

The new image are up at SSD

I hope everyone enjoyed the Sweet Shoppe Party with SSD today. A couple of freebies were given and three chances to win some of the new images were played for. The new images are up in the store now. You will also be able to buy some card scents that match the images...how cool is that. All of the info on the card scents are given at the SSD blog. If you missed today, then I hope you will be able to make the next one on Septmeber 1st.

I wanted to leave you with the two cards I made to be used as samples for the two sketch challenges we had. Both used challenge blogs however I don't remember most of them :( Sorry. The first up is the Sweet Cherry Pie image. I kept the image on the large size (one of the great things about using digi images - you get to control the size of the image) for the focus and then aged it with Antique Linen and Vintage Photo Distress Ink for the vintage feel that the DP I used had (Cosmo Cricket but I don't remember which one though - sorry). The only thing I wish I did differently was to sponge the Distress Vintage Photo around the scallop circle to help it stand out a little more.

Now for the second card. This one used the Sweet Lollipop image. Iadded shimmerz paint to the shirt and lollipop to help add sparkle. I used the Sweet Dreamers, the blog group I belong to, grid challenge.

It's a Sassy Blog Hop

It's release day at Sassy Studio Designs and we have some Sweet Treats for you. Join us here for some fun, games, and some chances to win some FREE images. We will be chatting from 12 pm CST - 6pm CST and Lindsay might speratically throw in another freebie cameo or 2 through out the day.

SSD Word Search: SSD is doing something a littel different for this release. From 12:05 pm till 3:30 pm you will have a chance to win 5 images being released today (check out the release blog to see which ones). What you need to do is go to each Sassy girls blog to get the word(s) and email Jacquie with each word and where you got it from. If you came to my blog from Lelia's blog then you're on the right track. If not, then be sure you start at the beginning to pick up all of the secret words. At the end of the hop you will get a chance to email Jacquie (javablustamper@yahoo.com) the words you collected (9 total) and where from each blog for a chance to win 5 images from the new release! **note there will be a time restraint, your email must be in no later than 3:30 pm PST/5:30 pm CST USA)

My treat for you today is Sweet Cherry Pie. A great image that can be used from contemporary to vintage. With all the great cherry papers out now, this cherry pie is just perfect. I had so much fun coloring her and putting this card together that after I was done I wanted some cherry pie for myself :) I think what makes this image for me is the sweet little cherry on top of the cherry pie. To sass it up some, I added red glitter to her shoes and belt and rhinestones for the upper corners. This card is also going into the following challenges: ABC Challenge (anything goes), Midnight Maddness (sketch), Work it Wednesday (use of glitter).

I hope your tastes buds have enjoyed the little tease. If you haven't picked up on my word, then just remember all the cherries that you see on the card and you'll have CHERRY PIE. Now go on to Margie's blog for the next word and another card to temp your tastebuds.

It's a bubble gum kind of day

I felt like giving ya'll a two-fer. You get to see two previews of the same image. She is such a fun image to play with. For the first card you get to see Sweet Bubblegum as a whole. I used the Digital Tuesday sketch and the Papertake weekly challenge of using colors that represent a season. Somthing about oranges and blues just make me think of summer. The sentiment in the bottom right corner is from PTI and used for a nice subtle note. I covered the bubble in CE to give is a shinny look that bubbles tend to have. I'll talk more about the coloring behind the bubble gum when I tell you about the next card.

Now for my two-color card. I wanted to show you how you can take part of a digi stamp and use it. For this card I used only the top half of the image and then used my circle nestie to cut it and the border out. I guess I was in a 'blue' mood when I made this one since that's my main color. The challenges I used for this card is: 2 sketches 4 you, the CAS challenge over at SCS (use bling), and last weeks My Time to Craft of using something old or forgotten (my clear circle epoxy stickers over the word 'gum' and the bubble). On the sentiment strip I just used my ruler and drew the lines with my SU! turquoise marker. I colored a circle over the word gum using RV000 before I put the circle sticker over it to add to the gum feel. How I colored the bubble part is explain below.

Behind the Bubble: First I colored the face as I normally would: E50, E51, R20 (the lips). Then I colored the part of the shirt showing behind the bubble with B01 (the medium color I used for the shirt). The tirck I learned from I Like Markers is to NOT color to the edge, so I didn't color to any part of the face or shirt that touches the edge of the bubble. After I did that I took the RV000 copic and colored in the bubble (over the colors that overlaped) to the edge. I really like the end result as it looks like a real bubble.

Yellow Paper Pieced Cinnabon

Don't you just love the smell of cinnabons? This new image from Sassy Studio Designs being released on August 15th just brings to mind that wonderful smell. For this card I paper pieced her dress and to help add to the depth I took a couple of my yellow copics to give it some shadows in the folds. Since purple is the complimentary color to yellow I choose that to be the seat color and the card colors (although the purple dew drops remind me more of grapes - oh well, I'll just have to keep that in mind for another card). The sketch is from Sketch Saturday challenge blog.

Be sure you make it over to the SSD blog to find out the details about the release party on the 15th.
