Challenge #51 - Summer Holiday Memories

Gooooood Afternoon!!  How was your summer break?   We've had a lovely long break over summer and are back with a new challenge!  We're also undergoing some internal changes so please bear with us whilst we implement them which will include a new owner - Lin and just being more consistent for you :)

Some team members have stepped down so its a fond farewell to Gill, Cazro and Jacki who will be missed loads, good luck for the future girls x

Onto our challenge this fortnight - Mandy has chosen the theme for todays challenge and she would like to see your SUMMER HOLIDAY MEMORIES so that could be a card, layout, ATC or other creation, perhaps of beach scenes, partying whatever you got up to over summer.

We are sponsored for this challenge by JOANNA SHEEN who has a huge range of craft goodies including the delightful Faye Whittaker designs which are perfect for this challenge.  Do check Joanna's out, if you've not been before you're really missing out and she has free postage worldwide for many of her items!

So here's our summer holiday memories to welcome you back!

Well I think summer was a few hot days wasn't it? I love visiting the sea and there is nothing nicer than sitting listening to the waves crashing on the rocks and strolling on the beach dipping your toes in the water if it isn't too cold.....  My card was made using wordart from TLC Creations, an image from Happileigh Scrappin', a cardstock sticker and ribbon from DCWV and a couple of little seaside theme beads.

gill

made this card with one of my favourite stamps at the moment dead cute the background was inked with sir tims distressed inks then children coloured with promarkers. matted up on silver mirri embossed with crafters workshop templates and the vagabond. backing paper anna griffin. top edging EK punch with chipboard flower as the sun. the thanks is die cut in mirri card.

For this challenge, I decided to veer away from the standard 'beach/summer holiday' image because I'm really not a beach person! This image reminds me of the coast where I was brought up - stoney rather than sandy - and a view you might see while on a paddle-steamer, and seemed perfect for the challenge. The image is stamped in Versafine ink onto watercolour paper, and then coloured using Aquamarkers.

The background is created using distress and adirondack ink pads, applied using a piece of cut n'dry.

for my card I have gone with a dreamy scene white sand blue see oh I wish I was there an easy card just used a sand image and water image to make the papers and added some shell and sea horse embellies

For my wee card I decided to use up all my scraps I had lying around! I made the beach from ripping sheets of kraft papers with some yellow and white ink highlights plus some wee grasses and the sky is done with distress inks. I made the wee beach hut from white card and strips of blue, added some bunting and some star fish stickers to finish

My card has Edwin and Tilda with their surfboards and the ocean background, coloured with promarkers. The paper is from a digi scrapbook kit, sorry can't remember it's name. The doilies are from my stash as is the ribbon, and the pins, although I added the turquoise beads to the pins. The shells and starfish are real! Found them in a pot in my craft room. No idea where they came from, nor that starfish came that small, but apparently they do.

This is me looking glamorous by the sea (I wish, LOL).  I live about 35 minutes from the coast so I spend a lot of time there.  I've used my Nesties and Tim Holts Retro Circles to make the frame.  The sea is a stamp from Stampscapes coloured with Stampin' Up Inks, the bathing beauty is from Artistic Stamper and the sentiment is from Hero Arts.

As I was flipping through my stamps I came across this Sugar Nellie stamp called Country Garden. My birthday is smack bang in the middle of summer and this year my daughter went out and picked me a lovely bunch of flowers for my pressie. When I saw this stamp it just reminded me of this and my summer memories :) The paper I have used is from the Bird Song stack from First Edition, i've used my MS garden trellis punch, coloured the image with ProMarkers and the ribbon ,charm and flowers are all from my stash.

I've just come back from a great holiday on the Lleyn Peninsula and there is beach after beach after beach all with something different to offer, only went to less than half of them so I've got reason to go back!  For this challenge I used one of the fabulous Faye Whittaker stamps from Joanna Sheen coloured with the brand new flexmarkers which are due for release imminently (these really are the dogs doo dahs!) and added some airbrushing with the letrajet around the side.  The shells are real, they're actually from a beach in South Africa!

Over to you!

Challenge #46 Embossing

Good Afternoon and welcome to our humble abode!  Todays challenge has been set by Teamie Tracy so before I hand over to her just a quick Thank You for taking the plunge with our Steampunk or Machines challenge!  There are some fab new images around for this rising trend which are lovely to see :)  We shall be back with our winners catch up soon so do check back.  I shall now hand you over to Tracy, its her first time hostng so be gentle!

***************************
As a new(ish) DT member I'm very excited to host my first challenge, this time I would like to see EMBOSSING on your project. It can be heat embossing with your inks and embossing powders or dry embossing either by hand or using a machine so there is lots of scope for this challenge.

We have a lovely prize from Joanna Sheen for this challenge - a £10 voucher to spend in her online shop which is packed full of goodies!

Here's what we have come up with to inspire you, please do leave us a comment as we love to read them!
I used the Glitter Girls Dress to Impress embossing board to emboss this little handbag. All you have to do is emboss the shape, cut it out and fold the score lines. I embossed some extra details on the same board to add the catches using some mirri board. The flowers and leaves are also embossed this time using a Crafters Companion board, some glue and a few sparkly stones for the middle and job done.

For this challenge, I have machine embossed the background, its a Tim Holtz texture plate that Ive fed through my cuttlebug and then just cut round the design, as you can see.

My printer is now running out of ink and has made lines on my image but the image is so stunning that for me, I can still get away using it......the only either items Ive used is a printed acetate die cut by K&Co and the wording has been chopped out of another printed die cut item by K&Co.

i have used my embossing folders with the vagabond machine for this card. various folders used the backing paper is just smooth white card embossed with as sweet as can be on the top and basket weave pattern on the bottom chalked over the birds, words and flowers to help them stand out more. the embellishments are cut and embossed from whitewash coredinations cardstock.then just some ribbon added to finish off

I have 2 for this one is a cheat emboss which is this one I wanted to show that even if you don't have an embossing maching with some of the gorgeous papers about today you can still get a great embossed effect for this I have used Sharon Duncan embossability papers

Now this is the card I did emboss the main BP is from MCS tattered lace cd rom then the silver strips are actually some tape we got to use on the car as we had a leak in the cooler tank didn't work so ended up having it and it embosses beautifully I used an embossing folder can't remember the name of it then I embossed the purple sheet with a different folder the image was cut amd embossed with a nestie and the the roses and bow I made myself dead easy.
I've used heat embossing for this card. The background was stamped with a swirl stamp in gold ink, and then embossed with holographic clear powder. I edged the card with more of the gold ink. The dragonfly was plain chipboard, and I used multiple layers of blue ultra thick powder, followed by a top layer of gold. While it was melted, I stamped it with a background stamp from the V and A collection. I finished the dragonfly with some Promarker coloured sticky gems.

I decided to make a deep embossed pendant. I started with a 2" sq piece of mountboard, which I coloured with a black marker pen. Then added 3 layers of clear UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enemal), whilst the last layer was still very hot and molten, I stamped it with a stamp I had previously prepared with Versamark clear ink on it.

After the piece of card had cooled, I removed the stamp, at this stage if your not happy you can melt the UTEE again, and start to stamp again. Once cool, I stamped with Versamark again and brushed on two mica colour powders. Brush it clear, then pat onto a wet wipe to provide the moisture for the mica powders to be set. Add a jewel finding and a chain. Apart from the gold chain, a very cheap, yet attractive piece of jewellery.

I decided on dry embossing for this challenge using my bigshot and embossing folders. I used a very cute Wee image that I coloured with Promarkers, Derwent pencils and Sansador. The paper is a freebie from a magazine and I chose pearl card to emboss as I love the effect it gives. I used a Magnolia Doohickey border die to edge the blue card before I embossed it. I then added a few flowers, made with an xcut punch and embossed. A craftwork card sentiment, some  ribbon, charm and pearls to finish.

For the embossing part of my card I have used a cuttlebug embossing folder on purple pearl card and also Cor'dinations Whitewash card and then sanded it to reveal the purple underneath. My image is a stamp from LOTV coloured with ProMarkers. The roses are from Wild Orchid Crafts. The backing paper covering the card base is actually music notes from "the wedding march" but it's totally wasted because you can't see it lol

For this wee Challenge I wanted the Embossing to be the main focal point so I stuck with white and a touch of colour! I used my embossing folders for the panels and some hand embossing on the background! The image is coloured with promarkers and some embossed flowers, card candy and a sentiment to finish.

For this challenge I've gone for a double-whammy! LOL.  Firstly I heat-embossed my image (CI-210) with Black deail embossing powder.  I coloured it with some lovely Starburst Stains  Then I added a little bit of Cuttlebug Embossing (D'vine Swirls folder) behind the image.

I love embossing, well heat embossing anyhow !!! I have stamped the cat and the writing and then embossed them both, then I inked the ATC and this caused the resist technique against the writing and the Cat. I also sprinkled on embossing powder randomly and then heated it all, gives a kind of smokey feel. Enjoy this challenge crafters. xx

 Vix

I love embossing particularly heat embossing so thought I'd have a play with this really old jigsaw piece I've had forever in my stash!  I triple embossed with moonglow two tone embossing powders then placed the hero arts fabulous flourish stamp in the melted powder, added some ribbon and beads and some punched butterflies painted with ferro texture paint. Not sure if the card base is too plain but I had fun just playing anyhow :)

Eiglas

...shock horror..! Eiglas has done a pretty card....! LOL! Look closely and remember, it may not happen again for a while!  Embossing you wanted, embossing you got - all three kinds although I did kinda cheat with the wet embossing and used a glaze pen! LOL!
I made an altogether different project then decided not to use it so it was 4.00 am when I finished this one!

Challenge 44 - A Royal Wedding

Good Afternoon and I hope you're all enjoying the lovely sunny weather we're having lately!  My kids are back in school today having had 2 weeks off, finding it totally weird that they're not off over easter except the bank holidays!  They're in for 8 days the whole of April!  Well my youngest is only in for 2 as she only goes weds and fridays so has lost 2 fridays!
Thank You for your fab entries to our recipe challenge, we had a chuckle at some of them on the way - you know who you are lol!  Don't worry we all have dippy moments!
Winners of all the closed challenges will be announced tomorrow (Recipe challenge will be in 4 weeks on next round)

Speaking of Bank Holidays our new challenge for you is related to that - OK its a Royal Wedding but if you're not into royalty its an extra bank holiday for some yay!

CHALLENGE 44  - A ROYAL WEDDING
We're giving you some options this time, with the Royal Wedding less than 2 weeks away we'd like to see you use RED, WHITE & BLUE (These must be the most prominent colours) AND/OR A WEDDING CARD OR CREATION.

So you have a choice to use the colour scheme, or you can make a wedding creation in any colours you like or a wedding creation in red, white and blue

We're sponsored again by the lovely Joanna Sheen who is offering a £10 voucher for her onlne shop which is crammed full of goddies with new stock arriving all the time! Thanks once again Joanna!

Over to the team for their red, white & blue, and/or wedding cards!

My Wedding Congratulations is a textured A5 card, a sheet of A4 folded in half.

I stamped the image with a La Blanche Bride stamp, one of my most favourite stamps which I don't get to use as much as I would like. I have gently added colour to her skin with Ivory and Almond Promarkers and watercolour pencils for the remainder colours. Matted onto pink card and then layered onto textured silver card. I added a selection of flowers from my stash, and silver embossed Congratulations. I think she looks a Victorian bride so I added my grandmother's pearl necklace and my ear rings for a touch of realism.

I choose to Celebrate the Royal Wedding by making a keepsake Concertina book.  This was a Concertina Book Making Challenge over at Craftymess Forum  - As the theme for here was Wedding or/and Red/White/Blue, I thought it would go together hand in hand.  I used a lot of craft stash for this, but the basis is A5 Card stock with lots of old English London Maps, along with the colours Red, Blue and White only.  A full description and further photos are available on my blog.

my card is made with 8x8 shaped base card covered with tim holtz paper

image is large version of the ready printed images from LOTV. i have run round the edge of image with red pen then matted it up on white embossed (sizzix embossed folder) card tinged with blue distressed ink.decorated with flowers made with left over blue TH paper cut with TH tattered flowers tipped with red ink. and centered with prima jewel. added blue and white ribbon centered with red jewel in blue flower center. sentiment is LOTV stamped in red on blue disc.

For my card I used a vintage ripped union jack paper (redhotbed) with some red/blue splodged paper again redhotbed the image is a decoupage sheet from a disc I have had for ages but never got to use this until now the ball & chain just makes me chuckle and all I have added is a couple of ring embellies on the side

For this challenge I went with the colour scheme red, white & blue and coloured a Tilda with promarkers and derwent coloursoft pencil, added a couple of punched butterflies (which my teamies Sarah & Tracy will tell you one is hiding the mistake I made colouring the sleeve blue when I wanted it white lol!)  Papers are digital by Bearly Mine Designs and the flowers are QVC and hobbycraft with a touch of stickles glitter.

I knew for this Challenge only a Wedding Box would do!I stuck with the Royal Blue and White/Ivory colours, using a fab Glitter card for the main papers! Lots of gems, ribbon and flowers all over the box and my fab Wedding Couple form Woodware to add a Scottish touch to the box! For more details check out my blog.

I went looking for inspiration among my unmounted stamps and got completely waylaid by some Craft Stamper freebies, and this was the result. I stamped and coloured with Distress inks. The Paisley 'leaves' are from an Artemo set I bought in France last summer. I coloured a second set of the flowers and added glaze before layering them, and finished with a punched edge.

To create this card Ive used the Tim Holtz Sizzix 'Notebook' Embossing folder for the background.Next,I used the Tim Holtz bird and cage die then inked all the edges in brown chalk ink - Ive added a red punched heart, a Prima flower and finally the stamped sentiment.

I used the fabulous bride stamp from Lilac Lemon Designs for my card and added lots of sparkle with a Sakura stardust pen. The fabulous swirly background paper is from a set called Rosehart designed by my very talented teamie Ei. I added the bride's bouquet to my card too.

My card was a commission (non paid, lol) for a wedding of a steam engine enthusiast, not trains, but traction engines. I was tearing my hair out trying to find something suitable when my lovely and talented teamie Ei came to my rescue with this personally designed couple sitting on a traction engine. Thank you Ei! The couple are coloured with promarkers and prismas pencils. Further details on my personal blog.

I used some Whiff of Joy stamps to create this card. I stamped them and then cut them out, coloured them with Promarkers, used some Glamour Dust for the sparkle and then I added some Flower Soft to create some texture on the bench and to hide it a little as I felt it was very brown and needed something extra. I used inks to watercolour my background on a pearlescent card and used the same card to create the letters, coloured with Promarkers and they also got the Flower Soft treatment.
Anyone would think there was going to be a big wedding this year wouldn't they? I have coloured this lovely couple with promarkers and added a bit of sparkle with clear star gelly roll pens.  The background papers are one I created myself in paint, and a freebie I found whilst having a mooch online. All papers backed onto red with the main image trimmed with a hearts corner punch to add to the love theme.  A few red heart gems and a recoloured paper rose add the finishing touch.

Challenge #42 SPECIAL BIRTHDAYS

Good Afternoon and welcome back to another challenge from Crafty Cardmakers!  Firstly thank you so much for your fabulous entries to our Fabric challenge, winners coming up in 2 weeks.  The Winners post is updated with all the latest winners and a couple of redraws so click the tab at the top to check!
We'd also like to point out that as we're shuffling things around and have moved the Spotlight Challenges over to their new home HERE we're also tinkering with the roolz so please take time to read them in the tab at the top or click here.  The main change is that we are now restricting how many challenges you can combine your entry with to 10 including us.  We've felt it necessary as people enter more and more challenges which is fair enough but we are about trying new things, challenging yourself and showing newer crafters different ways of doing things and some of the entries that have entered 40+ challenges barely scrape through the criteria which is not really challenging yourself (although entering 40+ challenges is a challenge in itself!) So I hope you understand that this team WANT you to roll your sleeves up and sink your teeth into something different!

We have some FABULOUS challenges and spotlights coming up, some many of the DT ran screaming from and quivered in the corner before pulling on our big girl pants and declaring we can DO this!  Speakng of which don't forget the Spotlight challenge is still running for another week on its new home and that is to make your own designer papers, YES you CAN do it!

*************************************

I'll stop rambling now and introduce you to our new challenge set by teamie MELLY who wants to see SPECIAL BIRTHDAYS! Don't forget to read the new roolz in the page at the top!

We're sponsored once again by the fabulous Joanna Sheen who is offering a £10 prize for her superb online store!  Thank You once again Joanna!

So over to the team, have fun with this one and special gold star if I see a 100th Birthday card!

As my big Brother turns 30 this month I knew a "Special Birthday" was just the ticket!

With him being in the Navy I didn't want to make anything that would be too big or get ruined! Also I know he has no where to keep wee bits so simple card was perfect! I used some of my new K&Co Hopscotch papers I picked up at the SECC, my wee TGF My Guy Ian stamp coloured with promarkers! Added some nestie layers, a "30", gems and lots of glitter plus my wee stickie letters to finish the card.

My niece will be celebrating her 18th Birthday this month and she is a big fan of Manga/Anime so these Sugar Nellie images were just perfect. I wanted a cartoon like background so I inked up the Tim Holtz Rays folder with Brilliance inks and added 'grass' with pleated ribbon

this 50th birthday card was made for a male friend of hubby so thought i would go with some tim holtz designs. bp paper tim holtz. made clock with sizzix die chipboard covered in tim's papers and some crackle accent to age it a bit also sanded edges. the coggs again sizzix dies from tim's collection again sanded them and used card candy in centre. the ribbon is binding from wild orchid buckle is from my stash. lable for sentiment and the letters and numbers used cuttlebug cut and emboss

For my "Special Birthday" card I have made a 30th Birthday card for my best friend. For the image I have used a Sweet Pea stamp (not sure what it's called) coloured with ProMarkers and then I have inked the background with a sponge and some ink from a "Big n Juicy" ink pad.I have also added stickles to the water. The papers are from the Henbury Lane collection, flowers are from Wild Rose Studio and little butterfly is from my stash. The border is made with an X-Cut punch. Finally the sentiment is just printed from my pc.

I've made this special birthday card for a friends daughter. Oh! to be sixteen again LOL!

I used: Sugar Nellie Hippie Chick and coloured her with Promarkers, Derwent pencils & Sansador. Spellbinders ovals & Scalloped ovals. Trimcraft Dessert Blooms papers, Martha Stewart & Nellie Snellen punches. Sizzix, flowers, branches & leaves set. The letters for the sentiment are from a Cosmo Cricket scrapbook kit. And I just couldn't resist adding some gems.

For this card I've used Cosmo Cricket 'Upcycle' papers from a 6x6 pad, the numbers are chipboard by Thickers, the letters are stickers by October Afternoon and finally I added 3 flat backed pearls and a little glittered flower by K&Co.

For my card I've used a DL sized card and pinched a bit of my William Morris wallpaper for the background paper.  I used a Glitter Girls panel to emboss the pearlescent green card and the blue/grey card and 'fudged' the gold mirri beneath.
I then positioned the Prima blooms onto a measure of Pinflair glue gel along with the rose leaves.
Before I give it to her I will make a matching box for it as an envelope won't do for this 'special' lady!

Papers are Basic Grey Lime Rickey, I used chipboard numbers and covered them with one of the papers, sanding the edges to define them, I also added glossy accents and a touch of extra fine glitter to the spots to make them stand out a bit - the punched bird got the same treatment. The Happy Birthday banner was stamped then  coloured with Promarkers and cut out, I made the little holes with a sharp pointy tool (don't know what it's called!) and added some linen thread to string it all together.

it's all done in MCS the image is from their Anniversay cd I just copied the image twice cropped one around the larger image and stuck it on the main card with foam tape added the text edged with gold and big 40 peel off BYU

For Challenge 42 - Special Birthday - I made a concertina card. A friend and her husband are shortly going to Paris for a few days, during which time he will have a birthday, now that's what I call special. The card is all based on black folded card, measures 4"sq when folded up and 24" wide when open. I decided on giving it an old distressed look. The backgrounds are scrunched paper with ink over the creases. The image sheets are torn and creased, some with rolled edges. The stamps are all relevant to travelling and Paris, mainly from a Debbie Moore set of clear stamps. I have tried to keep it as masculine as possible but couldn't resist the bling for the Happy Birthday. I have left the back, plain black and told his wife, who has seen it, they could later add some small pics of their trip on the back.

The special birthday I have done this for is my stepson Sean who will be turning 18 very soon.  If there is any one thing any self-respecting teenage lad who comes of age will be thinking about that is drinking beer (legally!) so I have used Victoria Case's 'Heidi' digi stamp as I felt it was just perfect for the occasion.  I have coloured with promarkers and mastered the art of colouring dark to light which was a bit of a mindshock but I think I managed it.  The card itself is coloured using the same colours as the beer glasses on the image and is shaped like a beer glass too (as suggested by Sean's Daddy lol)
