OWH Red Friday and ATCAS Dots

Over at Operation Write Home they are celebrating "Red Friday" instead of "Black Friday." Right now, from November through February or so, are the slowest months for OWH while everyone takes a break for family times and celebrations! OWH has over 100 units on our list, even with the drawdown – and we need to keep on shipping beautiful cards overseas.
If you would like to help OWH you can read more about it on the blogpost HERE.
Here's my red card for OWH and also for the Addicted to CAS "Dots" challenge #53.  Which is sponsored by Inspired by Stamping.

OWH Virtual Cardmaking Party #1

This weekend Operation Write Home is having a Virtual Cardmaking Party (VCMP).  There's 5 challenges scheduled every 2 hours throughout the day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Lots of goodies to be given away if you play along.

The first challenge is on Sybrina's blog asking us to use an OWH Sketch and make his and her cards.  Here's my take on this challenge.

I used OWH Sketch #122.  The masculine card has a "Rusty Truck" image from Stamper's Best and tire tracks from Tim Holtz Road Trip stamp set.  DSP is the Paper Studio "The Great RockIsland Route."  Feminine card is all Graphic 45 French Country and I flipped the sketch.

Back with more later!

Operation Write Home Memorial Day BlogHop

memdaybloghop_2014

Welcome to the Operation Write Home Memorial day Bloghop. If you would like to start at the beginning of the hop, click on the picture above and it will take you to the links on the OWH Stars and Stamps blog.   I hope you are having fun hopping along and viewing some fabulous creations by our fellow OWHers!  Here is my card for the hop!

Our Theme for the Hop is Red, White and Blue made as Love Cards, Missing You Cards, Thank You Cards, Birthday Cards or Any Hero Cards with a written message inside.  As I was digging through my formidable paper stash (ahem!) I found this Authentique Glory Kit with the flowers made out of hearts.  I knew I just had to cut one out and use it. I used OWH Sketch 54.  The  kit even came with the cute word stickers to make the sentiment.  So -- not one stamp was used making this card.  Unusual for me!  Ribbon is Really Reasonable Ribbon.  Click on the picture at the top of the post to get back to the BlogHop Linkys!

OWH Sketch Challenge #220

220

The trick to this one is to turn the paper on its side and trim it.  Still not an easy card to make.  DP is from my stash of old DP that I cut into 4 x 5 1/4 and have been trying to use up.  Think I'll make a few more of these cards for the OWH box.  Sentiment is Just Rite Stamps.

Two-fer Challenges

I managed to squeeze two challenges into one card today.  The Operation Write Home Sketch #216 and the Words 2 Scrap By Challenge #3:  And the Oscars go to. . .  The Words 2 Scrap By Challenge had four quotes from famous movies to choose from.  I chose "The stuff that dreams are made of."  (The Maltese Falcon, 1941).

I used a retired Stampin'Up! set called Dreams du jour.   All ink and paper are Stampin'Up!
Here is the OWH Sketch I used.
216

The Words 2 Scrap By Challenge ends on 21 March and there is a nice prize for the winner of the challenge.  The OWH Sketch is open for posting anytime.

OWH Sketch 205

Now that my daughter's wedding is over I have time to craft again!  Here is my version of the weekly sketch at the Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps blog.

DSP is Basic Grey.  Stamp is Stampin'Up using Always Artichoke ink, card stock, and the Window Frames Dies.  It is fun getting back into crafting for my own pleasure versus the wedding.

Here is a picture of my daughter and her husband on their wedding day.  The professional photos won't be here for two weeks.  They make a cute couple!

OWH Midweek Throwdown Spring Flowers

My resolution this year is enter a card into all the Operation Write Home challenges!  Here is my first entry for the year, the Midweek Throwdown.  To top it off I am using something new (a stamp I have had for a while and had not inked up yet).  Let the cardmaking begin!

The stamp is from Penny Black "Mixed Media".  I stamped it on Ranger's Specialty Stamping Paper so all the fine detail in the stamp shows up beautifully.  The background paper is K&Company "Life's Little Occasions Neutral Designer Paper pad".  I used Operation Write Home's Sketch #1 as my guide.

I am also entering this in the Just For Fun Challenges "New." and the
Simon Says Stamp "New Something" challenge.

World Cardmaking Day Bloghop Graphic 45 Style

Welcome to the Operation Write Home World Cardmaking Day Bloghop!

For my card I started with OWH Sketch #10 because I wanted to do something with tags. I got some great free chipboard tags when I went to Scrapfest at the Mall of the America.
They are from the Graphic 45 Nutcracker Sweet.
(yes I know, "suite" is the word for the ballet music
but this is all about the beautiful  "eye" candy that Graphic 45 is famous for!)
Note:  the blue is a little more intense IRL.

This is the Graphic 45 8x8 Nutcracker Sweet pad.  To bling up the card I was able to glue rhinestone jewels inside the holes of the chipboard tags using glossy accents.  This is so the card is not bumpy and should be able to make it through the post office mashing machine!  I also used glossy accents wherever the design had a sparkle star I highlighted it with Glossy Accents.  Ribbon is from my stash.
One of my favorite memories is taking my DD to see the Nutcracker Ballet done by a local ballet school.  Professional Ballet Companies can't hold a candle to the fun of watching a ballet school perform the Nutcracker!  Enjoy the rest of the bloghop by clicking on the picture at the top of the page to take you back to the page with all the list of blogs.

Operation Write Home Sketch 134

I used last week's sketch to make this Hall-NO-ween card for Operation Write Home.

I used OWH Sketch 134 as my starting point.

The DP is Authentique Halloween's line from last year.  It is my absolute favorite!  Authentique has these word sheets that you can use as sentiments or titles.  I had aready used the "you" on another card so I had to substitue "u" instead.  The words show up a little better in real life.  I used glossy accents on them to highlight them.

OWH Midweek Throwdown - Flowers

This week at Operation Write Home the challenge is to make cards with flowers on them.  I used OWH Sketch #119 as my starting point and some lovely two sided paper from K&Company.  I wanted to try out my new Creative Memories Stamper System that just came out.  I used it for the design in the circle.  The stamper system is a round stamper and comes with cute stamps for birthdays, a masculine theme, a feminine them and a children's theme.  Here is my flower card.
The Creative Memories Stamper System can be purchased with just the stamper and 1 stamp or as a bundle with 4 different stamp sets.  The best deal us the bundle which saves you $17.00.  Other ink colors are available separately.
You can find out more about it at my Creative Memories website HERE.

OWH Stars and Stamps Midweek Throwdown Challenge

Buttons, Bows, Brown and Turquoise
The challenge for this week is brown and turquoise.  I created the sample card for it and added buttons and a bow.  The buttons on the card are stamped ones and die cut ones.  I love the brown and turquoise color combination.  Of course I had to give it a vintage look. I used OWH Sketch #102 as my starting point.

You could easily create this look using pattern paper circles too.  The stamps sets used from Stampin'Up! are Button Button, Creative Elements, and Teeny Tiny Wishes.  Paper used are Kraft, Creative Memories White, Mediterranean, Stampin'Up! Early Expresso.  Ink used was Chocolate Chip for the buttons and Tim Holtz Distressed Ink Vintage Photo for the distressing.  The ribbon was from a bunch of scrap ribbon I bought at Hobby Lobby.  I used the new Tim Holtz Distressed markers in Vintage Photo for the stitching.

I hope OWH gets enough general type cards this time so they can ship a whole box of cards rather than an envelope!  Keep creating and mail those cards in!  Thanks for stopping by.

OWH Sketch Challenge #112

I needed one more Mother's Day card for my box to send off today.  I used the Sketch Challenge #112 to make this one.

The designer paper, ink, ribbon and card stock are from Stampin'Up!.  The sentiment stamp is from Paper Inspirations (Hobby Lobby).  The jeweled brad is from Creative Charms.

OWN Sketch Challenge #109

This sketch challenge at Operation Write Home was sponsored by Doodlebug Pantry.  They have the cutest digital stamps.  The link to the sketch I used is here.  This card and many other will be on there way soon to the shippers at Operation Write Home so our troops can have some fun cards to send home.

Since I don't have a laser printer I only used colored pencils on the digital image.  I'll experiment a little and see if my HP ink will stand up to a little bit of alcohol ink or watercolor.  More on that later.  Paper is some old Creative Memories scraps that I had in my stash.  Paper flowers are Creative Memories Delightful package.  Bling is from Creative Charms gradient gems.
