Glass Tile Pendants

Mad Hatter pendant
This is the easiest pendant you will ever make!

You will need one of Sakura Hobby Craft’s glass tiles and matching bezel cup, Crystal Lacquer and an image that fits the tile.

The glass tiles are available in rectangle, square and circular shapes.
Glass tiles (800x439)
There are bezel cups to match.  There are also bails you can glue right onto the glass tiles
Bezels (800x600)
I made two pendants.

One features a piece of paper I printed with my Gelli plate.
Finished aqua pendant (791x800)
The other uses a Mad Hatter image from Graphic 45’s Hallowe’en in Wonderland Collection.

You could use almost any paper, and I think fabric would work fine, too.  I think this would be great with a map featuring your hometown or some of your favorite text.  You may want to seal the image with Mod Podge if you think it will run.

You could trace the shape of the glass tile onto your paper and cut the paper to fit, but it’s really easy to adhere the glass tile to the paper with Crystal Lacquer and then trim it when it starts to set up.  Crystal Lacquer comes in a bottle with a small dispenser tip that is perfect for squeezing out small amounts.  I lightly coated the back of my glass tiles with Crystal Lacquer.  I didn’t spread the Crystal Lacquer all the way to the edges of the tiles, because it sort of gets squished out when you put it down on the paper.  After coating the tiles, I placed them where I wanted them on the paper.  The tile wants to slide around on the Crystal Lacquer, so you’ll want to hold it in place for a moment while it settles.
Glued with Crystal Lacquer (800x341)
Mad Hatter glued (800x636)
Once the Crystal Lacquer started to set up, I trimmed the paper with scissors.
Trimmed (800x376)
Then I coated the back of the paper lightly with Crystal Lacquer and set the tiles down into the bezel cups.  I used a wet paper towel to wipe away a little Crystal Lacquer that got squished out.
In the bezels (800x454)
And that was it!  All I had to do then was put the pendants on chains.  Sakura offers ball chain in several finishes.  I used some chain I had on hand.
Finished aqua pendant 2 (800x638)
Wouldn't this be a great favor at an Alice in Wonderland party?  You could use a different character for each guest!

I live in a really dry place, and I could make these in the morning to wear the same evening, but in other places, you’ll want to let the Crystal Lacquer dry for at least a day or so.

Just think!  You can make this pendant with absolutely any image you want!  I hope you will try it.  Now is the perfect time, because for the month of July, you can get 20% off your total purchase from Sakura by entering coupon code Summer07 at checkout!

Sakura Yuzen Paper Pendents

I love the beautiful Yuzen Papers at Sakurua Hobby Craft. It was fun deciding what portion of the pattern from each sheet of Yuzen paper to use in my pendents.

The bezel cup pendents pictured here are from Sakura, Black Coated Square and the White Brass Circle with the Sakura Ball Chain (which is currently on sale). Experiment with  the papers and Sakura Crystal LacquerThe fan pictured in the square bezel is from the top paper in the package  below. As you can see there isn't any black in the paper.   The combination of the paper and Sakura Crystal Lacquer created a new look on the black bezel.

I used the Earthly Serenity in my pendents.  Each Yuzen Paper Set comes with six (6) beautiful Yuzen Papers. Each sheet is 8" x 11".

To make each pendent cut the Yuzen Paper to fit the bezel cup.  In the bottom of the bezel put a small amount of Sakura Crystal Lacquer to act as a glue to hold the Yuzen Paper in place.  Around the edge of the bezel apply a bead of Sakura Crystal Lacquer. Pour an abundant amount of seed beads in the bezel and work as many as you can into the Sakura Crystal Lacquer around the edge.  Remove any remaining beads.  Add Sakura Crystal Lacquer to cover the entire bezel.  Let dry overnight up to 24 hours, depending how thick the lacquer is and humidity.

The Bottle Cap Inc Pendents

Using Bottle Caps from from Bottle Cap Ink. This pendent has a holiday feel with the red, green and gold colors. A one inch punch is the perfect size for the bottle caps.

The sheet this came from has red, green and purple flowers.

For the final pendent I intentionally cut the paper to get the pinks from dark to light in the background.

Genie Bottle by Becky Conley

I had tons of fun playing with the 3d Crystal Lacquer!
I created this "bejeweled" Genie Bottle that could double as a bud vase.

Supplies:
Sakura 3d Colored Crystal Lacquer
Sakura 3d Colored Pearl Crystal Lacquer
Sakura 3d Clear Crystal Lacquer
Sakura 1x1.5 rectangle pendant blank
misc. cardstock and butterfly rub on, beads and wire
The Best Glue Ever (ScraPerfect)
Copper leafing
The Perfect Crafting Pouch (ScraPerfect)

I made the faux leading with the Best Glue Ever because when it dries, it is tacky. I used thick lines to mimic actual stained glass leading. LET DRY COMPLETELY until clear.
Apply the copper leafing.
Because the glue can still be flexible after drying, care must be used when rubbing off excess leafing. I used the Perfect Crafting Pouch and it was magical!

Next, I applied layers of gorgeous 3d Colored Crystal Lacquer to each area and drizzled or dragged lines of 3d Colored Pearl Crystal Lacquer.

While that is drying.......... cut a scrap piece of card stock and apply the butterfly rub on.
Glue into the 1 x 1.5" Pendant Blank and cover with 3d Clear Crystal Lacquer.

Bead the wire, attach the pendant and wrap around the neck of the bottle.

I am totally in LOVE with that purple 3d Colored Crystal Lacquer!!

Thank you for stopping by the blog, come back often for more inspiring and creative ideas.

ANCHORS AWAY PENDANT NECKLACE

I was cleaning out my gift wrap cabinet and found a piece that had all these wonderful images.  Immediately I knew I would be making a Pendant Charm out of it. I'm sure you've seen them around, but you cannot believe how easy it is to make.  So, let's get started.
     Tools and Supplies needed:
Sakura Hobby Craft:  Rectangular Glass Gem, 2 Bales and 3-D Crystal Lacquer
Jewelers pliers
Graphic (I used image from gift wrap paper)
Printed WORDS (I used my computer to print: Bon Voyage
Charm for bottom of Pendant
Silver
2 Split Rings
Lobster Claw Fastener
Memory Foil Tape
    Instructions:
1.  Cut Graphic (image) to fit Rectangular Glass Gem.  Adhere WORDS to Graphic.
2.  Add a small amount of 3-D Crystal Lacquer to back of Gem and apply Graphic.  Let it dry.
(if graphic is translucent, add white paint to backside of graphic).
3.  Apply Bales (one on Top and one on Bottom, centered) over graphic with more 3-D Crystal
Lacquer, and coat entire back of graphic.  Let it dry.
4.  Wrap Memory Foil Tape to sides and burnish edges (I used a Bone Folder tool).
5.  Add Split Rings to Bales.
6.  Add Lobster Claw Fastener to Top and Charm to Bottom.
That's it, you're done.  Simply attach to a chain or strand of Pearls and dazzle all your friends when you tell them that you made it.
Happy creating and keep smiling, Carol

Mary Queen of Scots (Pendant)

This month from Sakura Craft, we got to play with these cool deep dish pendants. It's about 1/4" deep. I couldn't wait to layer "found objects" in . . .

This image, that reminded me of Mary Queen of Scots in her younger years - standing on the cliffs of Scotland, is from the ART-C Vintage Ladies collection. My mom had sent me these random charms. So, I played around with crowning my queen.

Cutting to fit the image in the pendant was a bit of a challenge, I ended up taking a bit too much off the top; however, you really cannot tell in the final result After using Crystal Lacquer to glue the image down, I covered it with a layer of additional lacquer.

After drying 24 hours, I put in the fleur de lis and the crown and poured in more crystal lacquer to cover the fleur de lis and leave the crown exposed.

When I was removing the crown charm from the original chain, the piece on top broke off, so it felt a bit incomplete. The star on the top is actually a bail, upside down. Again, I used morecrystal lacquer to keep it in place.

The funky legs in the original plan didn't get included; I felt they really weren't necessary to complete the piece. It was then put onto a ball-and-chain necklace.

Have fun creating!
