PTA to do Marc Maron podcast; Rudy Blatnoyd Poster/Trailer Arrives

After some speculation, and a fair amount of prodding on Marc Maron's part, Paul Thomas Anderson will indeed be joining Maron's WTF podcast, with the interview set to drop this coming Monday. If you aren't already a regular listener of the show, the episode will be free to download off of iTunes at that point. Maron's interviews are always, if nothing else, very long and very candid. So the talk should not be missed.

Oh. And then this. These babies seem to be dropping fast and furious lately...

WATCH: Martin Short Promotes Inherent Vice on The Tonight Show

Martin Short stopped by and paid a visit to Jimmy Fallon at The Tonight Show last night in support of his latest project, a little movie called Inherent Vice. Above is an excerpt of that interview, wherein Short discusses being typecast as a coke-addled dentist and then presents a small scene from the movie.

As some of you may have heard, half of C&RV was able to attend the screening of Inherent Vice held at Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles last night. It was a remarkable experience, with a full write-up on the way. Suffice it to say, you guys are in for something pretty damn cool with this flick. Click that clip above to get just a small taste of it.

Inherent Vice Premieres At NYFF; Watch Press Conference; More

And we're off!

Paul Thomas Anderson's 7th feature-length motion picture Inherent Vice has made its world premiere at the 52nd annual New York Film Festival, and yes, it was projected on 35mm. A plethora of reactions and opinions are still trickling in, as final screenings of the film will run well into the wee hours of tomorrow morning. You can find a lot of those opinions by simple punching "#InherentVice" into the Twitter search engine, but one response among both those who loved and didn't love the movie seem to be consistent: it is a wild fucking ride.

A press conference was held this morning after the movie's first public screening, with PTA and just about the entire cast of the film. It clocks in just a shade under 30 minutes, and you can watch it in its entirety above (BEWARE: minor spoilers).

Also revealed after the film's premiere this morning was that a new Radiohead song called "Spooks" is featured in the movie (we do not know if it will appear on the soundtrack album) (Thanks Amber B!) Click the link and listen at your own peril.

PTA introduced the film to a ravenous audience earlier today, we should have a full video of that for you tomorrow. It's all uphill from here folks!

Sasha Pieterse Joins Inherent Vice

Good afternoon

Today, via upandcomers.net, we can confirm, as some of you have long suspected, that Pretty Little Liars star Sasha Pieterse has joined the cast of Inherent Vice. With this casting, as well as the news of Yvette Yates and Hong Chau climbing aboard, it's hard not to observe that the film is developing a small subcast of young rising stars amongst the more seasoned screen veterans and it has us thrilled as hell.

Though we can't yet confirm which role Miss Pieterse will be taking, what we can do is drop some more set photos after the jump and let you Inherent Vice aficionados speculate wildly.

First Look At Martin Short in Inherent Vice, More Set Photos Arrive

Hiya-

Short but great little burst of an update for you all today. As the production got underway in Pasadena yesterday, some very fun new photos were snapped showing Doc Sportello in different threads than the other set of photos that leaked recently, as well as (and perhaps more excitingly) a first peek at what Martin Short will look like in the film. Once again, if you feel the photos might spoil anything for you, we'll drop 'em after the jump for ya.

 Have a groovy weekend everybody!

Reese Witherspoon, Martin Short & Jena Malone Join ‘Inherent Vice'

Filming set to get underway on "Inherent Vice" in just under 2 weeks but despite a huge ensemble of around 25 players, we've only gotten word of a handful of actors attached so far: Joaquin Phoenix, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro and Kevin J. O'Connor. Rumors have swirled in the last few weeks as to who would take the female lead. Charlize Theron had supposedly been interested in the part (and PTA likewise interested to work with her) but we posited back in February that would be out of the running due to her commitments to Seth MacFarlane's western and the highly anticipated adaptation of "Dark Places." It was also rumored that Kirsten Dunst (who PTA had recommended to Lars Von Trier for the part in "Melancholia") might be circling the role since she too had expressed an interest in working with PTA.

It would appear that both of those actresses are now out of the running as Deadline reports that Reese Witherspoon -- who's been picking up projects left and right these past few weeks -- has signed on. Though her role isn't specified, we're gonna take a leap here and say that she's probably going to be playing Shasta Fay Hepworth, Doc's (Phoenix) ex-girlfriend who sets the story in motion by asking for Doc’s help in investigating a plot and ends up going missing soon after. C&RV readers will recall that Witherspoon had previously been attached back in 2010 to the role of Peggy Dodd (back when the character's name was Mary Sue) in an earlier incarnation of "The Master" that never came to be. But it looks like PTA and Witherspoon will finally get to work together and also allow her to re-unite with her "Walk The Line" co-star Phoenix.

Update 9:55pm: In addition to Witherspoon, Jeff Sneider at The Wrap (who it should be noted has broken about 90% of the casting on this movie), reports that Martin Short and Jena Malone have also joined the film in supporting roles. Malone will play the part of Japonica Fenway, a free-spirited hippie chick who was the subject of Doc's first-ever paying case when she ran away from home. Short's role is still unclear but it's possible he could be playing Japonica's father Crocker Fenway, who hires Doc to investigage her disappearance or perhaps another role entirely. For those of you who have read the novel, who do you think Short might be playing? Sound off in the comments below. This is shaping up to be a really interesting cast seeing as only Phoenix and O'Connor have previously worked with PTA before. Filming on 'Vice' is set to get underway in the next few weeks so there should be lots more casting announcements to come. And if you're involved with the production, why don't you drop us a line?
